So excited! My Sailrite stuff (Including a leather tote kit and extra leather and canvas) is on its way here, and I will be able to sew myself a few leather projects. I will be following along for sure. I will also be getting my Ultrafeed LS with this order and the leather bundle of feet and needles etc! Yippeeeee!!! Enjoyed the first lesson! Thank you!😁

Thanks for the tips. I use IPA based dyes after applying Neatsfoot oil to get absorbed fully up for 6-8 hours. Then dye dry out time for 24 hours, then applying DIY WAX CONDITIONER made of beeswax, carnauba wax, lanolin wax, Shea butter, Neatsfoot oil, waiting time minimum 72 hours then buff with microfiber towel and horse hair brush.

I learned a lot here. Great video. This series is great. My leather projects have always been hit or miss because of not really knowing what I was doing.

Very knowledgeable and accurate. I’ve been working with leather since 1993 until about 2012. I haven’t been able to because of living situation been able to since then but am in the middle of moving now and will be getting back into it. I am really excited about this and I’m hoping in a few month I’ll be set up to start again. I have lots of tools but need to get a new machine for sewing. 💜🙏🏼😎

Happy to hear you will be able to get back into it soon! We just filmed a video using two of our machines for sewing leather. That video is called "Leather Sewing Essentials" if you want to check it out!

Is it possible to make a leather jacket look like a cotton blue jean jacket?
@SailriteWorkbench8 ай бұрын
It could be possible to dye it the same color as a jean jacket, but you would not be able to replicate the texture of denim with leather.

What color dye is that
@SailriteWorkbenchАй бұрын
It is called "light blue": www.sailrite.com/Fiebings-Leather-Dye-Light-Blue-4-oz

Why didn't you dye the back of the leather too? Can you still get the same look as the front by scrunching it up?
@SailriteWorkbench9 ай бұрын
I like the color contrast of having the back side remain its natural color, and having the darker grain side. You can dye the back side as well, it just uses more dye, and tends to look splotchy. You will get a similar effect by scrunching it up, although less pronounced. I hope this helps, best of luck on your next project!

Putting dye on the backside could lead to color transfer on things touching it as inside a purse or pants in the case of a belt.

I had a blue leather jacket, and the dye would get on everything. I thought a rubbing and time would help, but it didn’t. What if that happens to my wallet.
@SailriteWorkbench8 ай бұрын
If you properly apply a top coat to your wallet, crocking (dye transfer) shouldn't be a problem. In this video, I used leather balm with atom wax, but if you wanted to be extra safe, I would recommend using a couple even coats of resolene. It will do an even better job of preventing crocking, and even give you some water resistance! I hope that helps.
