University is very lonely - you need a support structure. That being said, we can't let location determine where we study. I'm from the Eastern Cape and no EC uni offered the programme when I was studying so I had to grow up and leave the province. As for UCT being #1 - if you get accepted into it, it's best to go there. More bursary opportunities, more scholarship opportunities and of course more graduate placement opportunities are afforded to students that attended there. You may not agree with it but that's the reality. Making a decision at 18 is tough but it's wise to gather info ahead of time :)

Hey Prudee! I'm former matriculant who got 6 distinctions but was unable to be admitted for actuarial sciences in wits and UCT so how can I get into Actuarial sciences with a Maths and statistics major as I was admitted for that in UCT? Your help will be highly appreciated thanks.
@prudee2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how similar maths and statistics degree is to the actuarial science at UCT, but at UP they are a bit similar and students doing maths and statistics also get the opportunity/chance at exemptions. So their route is pretty much similar to route of one who did actuarial science

If the department agrees, you can transfer from maths and statistics to actuarial science before you graduate

Hi I'm struggling to choose the right course for acturial sciences do i choose ADP or Mainstream and whats the name of the course you applied at UCT
@prudee2 жыл бұрын
This link (www.adp.uct.ac.za/sites/default/files/image_tool/images/372/ADP%20brochure%20as%20running%20text.pdf) explains what ADP is. Don’t remember. It’s been long. All I remember is, first choice was bcom actuarial science and second choice was applied mathematics

You can apply for Main Stream and if you don't qualify for it they'll consider your application for the Extended Programme (ADP) - the ADP is also competitive so there is no guarantee that you'll get accepted into that either.

What is your progress in qualifying.Are you doing your honours and how many exemptions.Sorry for being intrusive.just curious
@prudee2 жыл бұрын
Not doing honours. Have 1 exemption thus my journey to qualifying is still a long one

My matric results weren't as good as other learners, registered at wits and I'm in the 3rd year class in record time. Don't underestimate your potential, form good relationships with your classmates then you'll be fine.

Hey, uhm I just wanted to ask...so like how did you pay your fees at UP since you were using a partial bursary and why didn't you consider nsfas?
@prudee2 жыл бұрын
Mom did what she could and paid the remaining fees of first year. During 2017 I then applied for NSFAS and that’s what helped me cover the fees the following years. I didn’t apply for NSFAS because 1. I thought I fell under the missing middle and 2. I believed I would have a full paying bursary. A mistake most of us make
