I have never made fires. When I camp & fish with my pals, they always go straight to work on the campfire. And it's Ugly, usually involving about three cups of gasoline. On my own, I cook with alcohol stoves and in the evening a tea candle has always sufficed (I have, recently, upgraded my emergency kit to include a Light my fire rod, Tinderquik and an Esbit). But I love watching you work your skills. You've inspired me to make firesticks for sure, and do some other things. Learning new skills, is half the fun of being outdoors, so thanks!

Always nice to see somebody's ideal kit, go for it - I think if I made a kit it would end up just as a "what to take wild camping kit" rather than survival kit - not worse for it but probably more specific....less fish hooks and snares but plenty of insect repellent and Coco.

Someone making their own kit I think will go a whole lot further then anyone who buys one like you demonstrated. Yes I would like to see what you are thinking about while putting a good kit together. And like you said everyone will have a different idea on what should go into a good usable kit and that's fine, we all just have to weed out the gimmicks and for me that would be the wire saw, just my opinion. Good video and feather stick.

Rob excellent work and terrific choice of topic . Everyone and their uncle does feathersticks but nobody talks about the wood . The difference in wood, the grain and how the knife reacts with it . There are so many types of choices around the world and so many types of trees . I like popler, pine - but pine has its drawbacks, cottonwood, willow, then if I have to I'll try to use water oak, or ash or hickory, and I kind of like walnut and pecan, Sure would like to see your kit! I'm positive that you would know what works and what doesn't. Your the new lizard king ! People are strange 🤔
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
Your the first to mention the Doors. Willow and hazel are good feather stick wood over here Oak , beech , Birch and other hard woods are usually crap, better to make a pile of shavings, Ash is either green or rotten seldom find a nice seasoned dead standing.

I'm with you on the shelter building.....its a bit of an effort for not much reason in the UK - fun if you're somewhere more wild though....so maybe a good vid for some of your subscribers? A tarp and a fire is fine, a tent and a fire is better if there are midges - I'm not keen on bivvy bags particularly, you might as well take a tarp and have a lot more options.

Heck yeah Rob, I'd love to see your thoughts on a tin. I understand the marketing aspect and cost risks... blah blah blah, lol. Makes me chuckle at these, and angry at the same time. Survival cards from Grim would serve better than their "made in 'Gina" crap. My bags (in the back of the car and my weekend camping bag) are my "tin". To come up with realistic survival tin, a "it's all you have" tin, Altoids tins won't cut it! I'd need a trash bag (or 2), Sawyer mini filter, a real compass, SAK or Leatherman, paracord on top of the normal fire/first aid etc. I'd favor fishing over trapping... IMO Thx Rob!

I’d like to see you put a kit together but be strict and use the same tin so you are forced to compromise, no extra little bags or pouches, or wrapping cord or tape around the outside of the tin, then maybe in the same video or a following video, set yourself a series of challenges (like making a cup of tea - assume you have your own cup in this scenario) working around the limitations of the kit.

@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
Bum boy outdoors! Priceless! Is that the bumboy covered in shinny Fjallraven gear? Built a super shelter a while back, shelter building is over rated, build a massive fire it'll scare the rain off🤣🤣 Hopefully at some point I'll have more time to camp out for longer than 1 night then I'll do a minimum kit camping video. 24 hours just isn't worth all the effort to build a natural shelter, variations on the super shelter don't take long so maybe this winter I'll do a no kip bag outing.

O MY Wolf of the forest this is a very wide area of expertise literally the survival and bugout bag , it starts with the geographical area the seasons the number of days need to survive amount a person can carry and how far the distance to bug out and possibility of relocation so after watching your video my thought would be to individually section a kit for every need then assemble in a backpack according to conditions example need for fire kit , need for warmth and staying dry , need for water for three days , need for shelter creation if possible , food for three days and cloth socks underwear change and wipes for body wash for moral if duration is going to be long forget the kits and start building a boat like Noah's Ark
