Really enjoying this series Daniel, keep going! I've put a bunch of your patch mgt tips into practice already; backing up and iterating patches has really created a safe place to explore quickly.

Just came across this tutorial. While I don’t play, I’ve been a Keith Emerson fan for 50 years. While for the most part this is kinda over my head. (I can vaguely follow what your doing) But just watching, and for a first watch, seeing how Keith created some of the sounds that made ELP’s music unique for me was fascinating. AquaTarkus, from the Welcome Back album is my favorite example of Keith’s synth work. I simply love that song. (And I’d be remiss to not mention Carl’s killer drums on that song) Thank You for putting this out there. It was a pleasure to watch you explain how to create some of those effects that I love to hear so much. Another favorite is Larry Fast’s original Synergy album as well as Classical Gas from Mason Williams on his second effort. Thank again! 👍🏻🍻❤️😎

Re: Gated Glide:- My guess... R&B, Funk, Blues.... "Blue Notes"... micro-tonal risers and fallers that "lead in" to the target note or chord, without actually ever reaching that pitch. The correct pitch note/chord when hit, has more emphasis and momentum. That's my guess based on my Guitar background. Technically it's quite simple (on a guitar... bend one string, then play a different string), but musically it is quite hard, because you have to get timing and micro-tone pitch right to pull it off without sounding weird. It's hard to teach, it's something you need to feel, rather than technical precision. I am a newbie keyboard player, and I imagine pulling this off on a Synth would be quite hard. The Synth Target note/chord would need to be restruck... non-legato. So you would be playing/holding whichever chord, strike the target chord ahead of time, then restrike the Target Chord (on the "One" for example) while releasing the first chord (so you don't get another glide). A "classic" guitar version of this would be the "pick scrape", where the guitarist runs the edge of his pick up (or down) the low E string, then "smashes" a chord at the end of it. The pick scrape "pitch" may seem atonal and irrelevant, but it actually is relevant, by virtue of the fact, if you're not paying attention and just doing "random" it will sound wrong... it's feel and muscle memory.

as I learn the wavestate, I found a factory patch("go to the light") that has an upward glide that never ends(4octaves) until you let off, speaking of gated glides. I was actually getting some cool sounds by letting it rise one or 2 octaves and let off the key but it is really hard to control, so no use for it here...yet heh.

Topic Suggestion:- How do you identify and copy another synth sound by ear (e.g. a synth sound you hear on a record).

Great suggestion, Antony. We're planning on an upcoming contest where I pick sound ideas out of a fishbowl and then try to recreate them. -_Daniel_

haha, ridin' the storm out. That is definitely one of those songs like mr crawley or funeral for a friend and steve miller stuff where synth geeks pay extra attention.

Gated Glide is obviously for performing Stranger Things soundtrack elements. :-)

Gated glide would have the same 'utility' as playing a "c" and then a "d" in a diatonic scale. I.e. 'none'. It exists for its 'own beauty.' Tonal harmony doesn't 'mean' anything. All notes are 'real'. We humans have a difficult time accepting our existential freedom. Ultimately we create our own 'meaning' in this world. :-)

Does the Moog Sub Phatty have linier constant time logato off?
@sweetwater2 жыл бұрын
Yes! The Moog Sub Phatty can choose between three Glide Types (Linear Constant Rate, Linear Constant Time, or Exponential) for each Preset using Shift Mode. -_Daniel_

How bout a different sound
@sweetwater4 жыл бұрын
Hi Laserwave Studios. From the beginning of this series I decided to have no other variables when demonstrating a specific parameter. By only using an INIT preset (one Saw Osc, no Filter, Amp on full, no Modulation) for every example it's easier to focus on the exact results of the tweak being discussed. The bright side, though, is that using all of these examples will allow you to make many different sounds yourself. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
