One of the very best videos on multiple roundabouts. Well worded!!! As a learner when I missed my exit I stayed on the roundabouts then got confused going round not knowing the right exit. So the trick was to exit then to u- turn and go back to the roundabout. It's very important just as mentioned in this video it's best to be safe, stay on your lane and exit where it's most safe if you missed your exit. Good luck !

Great video. Do the arrows on the lanes show the physical direction aline takes you to (e.g., ⬆ means ahead at 12 o'clock) or tell you whether to stay in your lane? I.e., ⬆ = follow the lane, ⬅=leave off, ➡=continue on the roundabout.

An excellent tutorial. I have got a question. Suppose you are approaching a four lane roundabout and there are the third exit is towards the left. While entering there are three lanes, so should I still on the middle lane or third lane?

So can we say you always have to follow the line on your right until you reach your exit, and after that you have to follow the one on your left? Does this rule apply everywhere in the UK? Also, my problem is I can't really focus on how many exits I have left behind, or sometimes I literally can't see it because of the traffic, and I am lost, so I just stay whatever is my lane, even if I chose wrongly in the beginning. I,ve passed my test about 2 monts ago but I can't do this multi roundabout.Last time thanks god husband was sitting with me.I went in the wrong lane,it was super busy at this time and he had to tell me how to change lanes I completely lost my navigation skills in it.In my opinion this kind of roundabouts definitely not for new drivers,even husband told me who has 20 years driving experiance that he also needs to focus and good observation to get through this kind of junction.

Can someone kindly answer this question. When we are here at 6:10 do we signal left or not signal? At 15:14 is that where we should begin to indicate right? Explanations greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, and yes! Always think who could benefit from the signal (who are you trying to give information to?) and could anyone be confused by your signal? If any one can be confused then either delay the signal until it’s clearer, or don’t give the signal if the risk of confusion is higher than the potential benefit it will bring. For the left signal (to leave the roundabout) if you gave it much earlier it could confuse someone into thinking you are leaving the roundabout at the previous exit. From this point on it is clear that your signal means you are leaving the roundabout ✅ Who might benefit from the left signal? Vehicles behind you (in any lane) as it confirms you intend to stay in your lane and not change lanes at the last minute! Also any pedestrians or cyclists who may be thinking of crossing the exit road you are about to enter. For the right signal, if you gave it earlier it could confuse those around you on the roundabout into thinking you are going to continue around the roundabout or change lanes. Who will benefit from the signal? People behind you who may be expecting you to speed up on leaving the roundabout (let’s them know you are changing lanes into a lane which is controlled by a separate traffic light than the one to go straight ahead). Also anyone behind who may be thinking of overtaking you and, again, any pedestrians/cyclists who may be preparing to cross either the road you are on or the road you are planning to turn into. Your thinking is correct ✅ Does this help to explain why?

At 6:10 you were already in the left lane and so were not turning left, so as you weren't turning left then you didn't need to indicate left, am I right?

@@eldee1628 technically you don’t need to indicate left there as you are following the lane and the lane only goes left. However, there is no harm in giving the signal (no-one can be confused) and others may benefit from the signal for the reasons I explained in my earlier reply. So I would normally give the signal. It is very common for people to get confused on roundabouts and cut across lanes at the last minute - e.g. in this case deciding not to leave the roundabout as they should, but carry on round to the next exit. By signalling left you are confirming your intention to leave the roundabout, increasing the confidence of others that you will stay in your lane and not cut them up, helping them to plan their own journey. Having said that NEVER rely purely on someone’s signal, just as you should never rely purely on someone’s road position or lane choice. By adding the signal to the road position, speed and lane choice it all increases the confidence in anticipating what someone is planning to do.

Please forget about 12 o clock. It’s not relevant and leads to confusion - that’s why none of my videos mention the so called “12 o clock rule”. If you are taking the last exit you must want the right most lane - if it’s not for you then who else can it be for? Only people going full circle round the roundabout and there won’t normally be many of them.

Just to make sure I've understood this:  Lane 1 for exit 1 (left)  Lane 2 for exit 1 (right)  --------------------------  Lane 2 for exit 2 (left)  Lane 3 for exit 2 (right)  --------------------------  Lane 3 for exit 3 (left)  Lane 4 for exit 3 (right)  --------------------------  Lane 4 for exit 4 (left)  Lane 5 for exit 4 (right)  ---------------------------  Lane 5 for exit 5 (left)  Lane 6 for exit 5 (right)  ---------------------------  Lane 6 for exit 6 (left/right) Say in a theoretical scenario where there was a 6 lane roundabout, would you follow the lanes around like this?

My understanding is Lane 1 for 1st exit Lane 2 for 2nd Lane 3 for 3rd Lane 4 for 4th. If arrow on floor on 2nd Lane says you can go straight or left then you can use this Lane to leave at 1st exit or 2nd.

​@@mahenur I can confirm what I have said here is correct. This is how it works. Typically, there are 2 lanes for every exit, so that traffic can move past slow moving vehicles e.g. HGV's or service vehicles.
