I have bought many boots over the years and I have learned that there is no boot that can do it all. When buying boots you need to know what kind of job you will be using it for; will you be ruck marching, will you be working around heavy machinery or do you just want something that is just comfortable? these are the questions you need to ask yourself when buying boots. I hope with this video you can get a good idea of what to look for in military boots. Thanks for watching and remember to Train Like You Fight!

Key point i think you missed with the belleville mini-mils is that they’re A minimalist boot. Your feet need time to adjust because they are working muscles that have been allowed to relax and get lazy due to traditional footwear and boots with “cushioning” and raised heels. I think their website even says you need to gradually transition between them and standard boots, wearing them for 1-2 hour intervals for a few weeks. Otherwise you would over do it and get injured. Like you getting Plantar fasciitis

With the minimalist boots, you didn’t transition into them which didn’t allow you to adjust how you walk so you don’t jam your heel into the ground. youre supposed to have natural walking and running gait with them, which mean no heel striking.

The Bellville mini-mils have a 5mm heal rise. To run in them you need to train yourself to be a forefoot striker. This is easily done using the 100-up method. Lots of info on KZbin. You will love them when you do this. My favorite boot.
@TrainLikeYouFight
@TrainLikeYouFight 5 жыл бұрын
I personally don't believe in using a forefoot strike because it doesn't distribute weight evenly. I run using a midfoot strike because it is more efficient for long distance running and creates less impact through the leg. I used to be into minimalist running like everyone was a few years ago, but I quickly realized that less cushion equals more impact.
@johnredcorn433
@johnredcorn433 4 жыл бұрын
Train Like You Fight it takes a long time to build up into those kinds of shoes. Your feet become so weak wearing those two inch toe crushers all day that running in a minimalist shoe will easily cause stress fractures. You talk about running as if it’s just all impact, impact, impact. Try the word landing next time cause that’s all running is. Lifting then landing. Forefoot running is using the leg as a spring. And trust me, it takes a long time before that spring becomes so strong that running won’t ever be a challenge for you. Btw, that strength that you gain from minimalist running or walking can quickly fade away once you step into any restrictive footwear. Avoid them like the plague

Hello sir! I was thinking, if your feet are tough enough (tough calluses) and your feet are comfortable with the ground meaning you can step on a rock without it hurting because of the minimum to no cushioning, wouldnt it be even better to use the minimalist boots because once you’ve broken them in your feet will be comfortable with the ground and the boot are light weight so they’ll feel a lot lighter when you’re rucking. Just wanted to get your thoughts! Cheers!
@TrainLikeYouFight
@TrainLikeYouFight 3 жыл бұрын
Yes in theory your feet should just toughen up, but carrying things like 50+ LB packs will put a lot of additional strain on your feet. There are a lot of people that prescribe to bare foot running or minimalist running, but I have found that it doesn't translate well into rucking.
@lukasg9031

The problem with minimalist or "barefoot" footwear is you have to change the way you've walked pretty much since you were a child. If you adapt and transition to them properly you will not have a problem. If you come down hard on your heel like you have your whole life you going to get some pretty serious injuries (Vibram was sued over this). People have been living, walking, fighting, working, in minimal footwear for nearly all the time shoes have existed. But you have to change the way you walk and develop foot and leg muscles that drop soles cause to atrophy. Thats a lot more effort and dedication than most people are willing to put in but I can tell you from experience if you do, you realize that the idea of needing a heavy boot is based on dogma and convention rather than facts.

Tyler Hamilton I purchased the minimalist boots because I am an avid runner and I was using minimalist running shoes which worked well for me. The boots were a different story because of the extra weight I was carying when I would ruck march.

That makes sense. I backpack in minimal shoes but I never really carry more than 9kg. That being said I had to spend months adjusting to wearing shoes like this over hard terrain and a pack.

@TrainLikeYouFight
@TrainLikeYouFight 5 жыл бұрын
The gtx and the bifidas and pretty much the same boot besides the sole. I would recommend the gtx for road marches and the bifidas for field use. Both boots can take a little longer to dry than something like the Nike SFB because the uppers have more material to them.

@@TrainLikeYouFight I own a pair of black army boots post Vietnam era. Got them from army Navy surplus store. They look identical from the ones in Vietnam but there from 1983 why did they stop using this classic boot design? That they used from ww2 to the 80s? Just wondering

@@wrathofmohawkindiansbloodi5859 The Army found the black polished boots required too much maintenance for field use and black isn't very common in nature. The brown boots we use now are earthly in color and they won't reflect light like polished boots would. Those of us in airborne units still wear black polished boots with our dress uniform.

@@TrainLikeYouFight I understand I still prefer the black polished boots to the tan new army boots . I've never served inn the army but I greatly admire the old army look like from ww2 to Vietnam the old drab green army cloths I like don't really care for the new army clothes that much. Honestly they are pretty similar, the only major difference is the jungle boots are much more water repellent since they are polished, the suade issues boots only have a waterproof coating that quickly wears off.

@@TrainLikeYouFight the past couple months I’ve had experience with both boots and jungle boots are wayyyyy better, all you have to do is take out the steel shank. You don’t get mud clogged up on the bottom and it doesn’t soak up water like the suede ones. Also jungle boots are extremely light
