I wish KZbin was around when I was in junior high school back in the mid 90's. That rope climb was the toughest thing I had to do in P.E. Any other exercise or run or obstacle, no problem. But that rope climb was like kryptonite to me.

The ropes are durable and just like the ones at the gym. kzbin.infoUgkxTFxba6lNeHrZaHoY_LXe6ZzmMfaipnwu Caution: I bought the 50 feet ropes and they are long and heavy so make sure you have the space (I do have the space). If I was to do it again I would probably get a shorter version as 50 feet (25 feet each side) is a little long.

I learned the wrap around method in boot back in '96. The instructor here completely loses his wrap on the climb and reapplies it after crunching his body towards his hands. When I was instructed on how to do it, we kept the wrap and only loosened the hold to move our legs up. It makes locking the rope back in place that much easier and quicker, should you start to lose your grip with your hands. Only someone who has spent an incredible amount of time in the gym getting muscles like this man, can completely let the wrap go and make it work.

Same here and also graduated Sand Hill Infantry School, Dco 1/19, in 96. Drill Sgts Taurez, Swanson and Allen. Our C.C. was Bennet. Graduated Sabalauski Airassault School end of same year. Wrap around method was the strongest lock for me and it functions exactly as you describe.

I was swimming with some friends, and we were making efforts to climb a 25ft rope swing up a tree. I have no training, but someone pointed out I was using my feet. I explained (on the rope) "Yeah.. It makes it so I don't need my hands as much" Then, showed them both my palms. "No hands." Turns out, I naturally use the S method. Thank you, I wasn't a 100% sure how to explain it. Also, it's not pleasant to use S method barefoot. Rope burn is an issue. I have never tried, but I assume wrap around is equally problematic for the top of your foot.

I learned the wrap around method in at MCRD in 1971. Nobody used the J-hook method back then. Now it looks like the J-hook method is preferred. It is good that they still let you use the old school method. New is not always better.

In the video it is said that it's not allowed to change methods at the top as this means releasing the lock and putting oneself at risk. The 'S' method releases the lock at every stage of the climb. As demonstrated; lift legs, lock, push with legs. Then repeat. It seems that this method puts the climber at risk at every stage. Am I right or am I missing something?

I was an Army Ranger and Trained with Force Recon...they are total bad ass. I went through Stage 4 Aggressive Cancer and believed God to survive it and promised God I would be in ultimate shape Run 10 miles do 20 pull ups 100 pushups and 100 sit ups and climb a rope 5X in a row....I was up to 5 pull ups 3.5 mile runs 75 pushups 80 sit ups. Before Cancer I weighed 187 pound dropped down to 105 lbs...God is so awesome he really cares about us if we speak positive and believe that he is helping us. I said the whole time I survived Cancer for 6 mo and beat it. Proverbs 18:21 Mark 11:23-24 and Romans 10:9-10 Doctors say I am a walking miracle! This video helps out a lot! Thx Rangers lead the way!
