Heyo! Found you thanks to Webwarrior! Love this idea of playing heroes instead of decks. Theme is a huge factor for me for loving this game and I'm happy to hear that idea getting traction.

I enjoyed the video! I don't have any qualms with what you were saying. So in my opinion, you were cooking. It was a slow roast seasoned to perfection. I totally agree with what you said about Uncanny X-Men being great and actually highlighting Cyclops's hero kit. Same with Captain America. For the other heroes, I don't have a problem with running tribal builds on them. I think my issue is more so related to the "critical mass" of allies that you were discussing. Having Quincarrier, Mighty Avengers, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes in a deck doesn't overtake an Avenger traited hero until you get to around 10 or so allies, and the 'optimal' play is seldom your heroes cards, or even their hero and alter-ego abilities. Also, I still don't mind doing that from time to time. I'm still planning on trying to put together broken strategies sometimes when I play that don't necessarily promote the heroes identity. I just don't want to fall into a trap where that is the main way I play. Rather, I want to have my default way of playing being emphasizing the hero, and occasionally try to break the game and take out crazy difficult scenarios. Great job! Y our Charred Takes episodes are some of my favorite Marvel Champions content to watch.

@@DaringLime Thanks so much for the reply and the kind words for the series, seems like it was sorely missed! I totally can agree with you here as well. I like winning as much as the next guy, but there's different ways to get there that isnt 10+ ally decks!

I totally agree. If I play Wolverine I want the feel of slashing everything around and my added aspect cards to embody or reinforce that. At the same time I’d rather play “character decks” then play archetype or combo decks to spice things up on occasion.

Wolverine is so fun to get into the thematics with as well! Again, not to say other ways of playing aren't valid, this is just where I find my own enjoyment.

I really enjoy videos like this that give insight into how a player thinks about the game and what makes them enjoy it. It simultaneously gives us a way to see how you view things and helps us reflect on our own views (and on whether we want to modify how we look at the game or play it). Great video!

Yeah, we are definitely on the same line. What matters is gameplay identity. Everything that distract from what the identity/kit is trying to do, is like "putting the square peg into the round hole". With all those heroes avaible, 50+, I'm pretty sure all I gotta to do is to fine the right hero/kit for the deck to feel interesting to play. As you said, Captain America as good resource unrestricted generator, and cost reducer for ally in AE. But he lacks card draw, compare to the average hero. Playing Strenght in Number, just feel right for him. You play allies for cheap, you can protect them thanks to stun or high defense stat/event, and then you can draw into Avengers Assemble for the win, because resource generator can pay for it! That deck could work with many other heroes, but it will never be as synergistic/sharpen than with cap. Because it complement its strenghts, and cover its weakness, and fit the theme. I mean that is like 5 out of 5, even though you can build many others deck with Cap, or many other SiN decks with other heroes. Another example I would give is Ghost Spider into Web Warrior. Her whole ability relies on her being not stun/confused/exhausted. The only way to consistently cover that huge "brickyness" is Spider Man web warrior ally. And if you play one WW ally, then why not play a bit more to benefit from their cheap "0 cost" support, to help with her inconsistent economy. Sure you can make very strong Web Warrior decks with lots of other heroes. And maybe they are more powerful with them. But in the end, I think Ghost Spider is the only one who really needs it. Once again it help her to achieve what her kit ask you to do: exhaust interrupt ready, to protect ally, cancel treachery, do burst damage, thwart efficiently, and well: everything in her kit lol.

@@alberttaco3668 Thank you for the well-written and though out comment. I think your take on Cap is really great and made me rethink SiN to give the card a try myself. I notoriously do not like playing / building around that card, but for someone like Cap it just makes sense. I also totally agree on your Ghost-Spider interpretation as well. It not only meshes really well with her hero kit, but thematically with the whole Ticket to the Multiverse she has going on. Loved the insight!

The ally “problem” is so real. I quickly learned, and dislike, the fact that playing at expert or heroic means playing optimal decks as opposed to thematic decks. Easiest solution is ally swarm and chump block. It’s also why I like scenarios that punish chump blocking, like Unus. I’d much rather experiment with deck building on standard with fun thematic experiences over min-maxing in Heroic.

@@prufrock1977 I can totally agree and resonate with that. It's always a balancing act for your desired diffuclty levels, the decks you want to play, and what you find the most fun. If I'm chasing a win, I can build for that. If I'm trying to have a good time, I also have that option. Just part of what makes this game so great.
