@@vasemir Solas means "Pride", and we know that Wisdom spirits are prone to transform into Pride demons. Solas got full of his own shit, especially after getting the hell beaten out of him and with his goal right in front of his eyes. It's actually the most petty ending. Solas doesn't learn anything and you end up just like him. At some point, he might be able to escape his prison, and then this starts all over again. In the redemption ending Mythal, the woman who twisted him from his purpose to begin with, frees him from her service and he actually seeks atonement, leaving the Veil up on his own accord. And whether or not I can forgive him for what he did to Varric, it's kind of inconsequential, because Varric himself forgave him.

I think Varric would approve of Rook's line. Rook wants to honor Varric's benevolence but also bring justice to his death and all the atrocities Solas committed in the name of Mythal. This is why Rook mourns that it shouldn't have to end that way.

@@kirikakirikakirika Solas doesn't deserve redemption. Varric didn't forgive anything since it wasn't even him but an illusion created by Solas using blood magic. It's not petty at all on the contrary it's fitting . Especially his last words when he realized that despite all his claims he saw himself as a superior being just like Elgar'Nan. His last words is him realising that he was never more than an arrogant and delusional man who saw himself as the only being capable of doing things right. Where he says "You are a mortal and I am.... a fool" what he was actually going to say was "I am a god" but he realized he was basically part of the Evanuris, that he had become what he was fighting against previously. By being beaten in his own game, he finally took a lesson of humility and aknowledged and respected Rook for it. It's the culmination of Rook character. The pawn who took the king. It's by far the best ending, the redemption path is just chessy fanservice created for the Lavellan fans. Corypheus made less victimes than this asshole, yet you don't see people crying that he deserved better or should learn something. Not everybody deserve a second chance especially an asshole like Solas who blew up his chances more than once.

@@taintedblood4381 Wrong. The Varric we meet in the Fade is not Solas' illusion, but an actual echo of Varric. Solas wouldn't leave us alone with a spirit that could encourage us to escape. Varric did, in fact, forgive him. And despite Solas' crimes, he still deserves redemption. At the end of the day, he is an immortal being who was twisted from his original purpose. This is actually on Mythal. Solas never wanted a body, but she forced him from the Fade and it twisted him into Pride. She broke him, and she recognised that in the end. Rooks have many purposes on a chess board. It can take the king, sacrifice itself, or it can pave the way for other pieces. Like it or not, Solas could one day break free, as Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain nearly did, which is why he was planning to move them in the first place. This ending is, indeed, petty. He will live for an eternity. And while you would condemn him to an eternity where he can't do any good, will seethe, and eventually cause even more damage (be it in the Fade or the mortal world), I would rather have him admit to his wrongdoings and condemn himself to an eternity of restitution. It's not fan service at all. This was one of the only endings that ever would've worked. I romanced Cullen, by the way.

@@kixmix2450 The dagger isn't constantly emitting magic. It's a normal lyrium dagger until Solas starts the ritual. Once magic starts pouring through, the trap activates and it's too late to stop it. @@chatterycasque9594 normal lyrium dagger. You mean Lyrium, the stuff that when it’s in its raw form makes people sick, outright kills mages and even makes dwarves go mad? Also how do we know the Lyrium dagger doesn’t constantly exude magic? We can use all companions ‘power’ to unlock stuff when the specific companion isn’t in the party with seemingly little to no effort. That could be considered magic right there

He doesn't die, he just becomes trapped. For the veil to stay up it has to be tied to an elven god. I mean, it's not really out of character for Solas. His greatest flaw is pride, in his mind, no mortal could ever trick him.He's the god of lies after all and deception. All of the evanuris are defeated by their antithesis. Ghilan'nain creates life for monstrosities, but is killed by a mortals sacrifice, Elgar'nan demands the adoration of the powerful, but is undone by those with humble beginnings, and Solas has always used his aspect of wisdom for meticulous planning, but is defeated by acting hasty because of his pride.
@maiafay
@maiafay 26 күн бұрын
@ I have no issue with that in general. What I have a problem with is the hasty set up and lack of understanding of their own character. Solas made his dagger. It’s like someone switching out a piece of furniture you made and replaced it with some Chinese knock off. You picked out the wood, sanded it down, put it together. You’re going to know the weight and texture of it. Even more if that piece of furniture sang a particular song within the wood. I doubt very much Emmrich could duplicate that. If solas was tricked by that fake dagger, then he allowed himself to be tricked on purpose. But that is an entirely different topic of discussion.
@TheChibiGingi
@TheChibiGingi 14 күн бұрын
Look, besides the whole 'Solas blinded by Pride' thing, the guy's also heavily concussed and took on an Archdemon pretty much solo, so the guy was probably not at his best at that moment. Like, god or no god, you're not going to be thinking straight and noticing things when you're old, you're hurt, you're tired, and you're working with children, so cut poor Solas some slack xD. Also, remember that Emmrich didn't make the dagger to fool Solas. He made it to try and pierce the Veil to both get Rook back and to kill Elgar'nan, but failed (because while it looks and apparently feels the same, it can't cut through enchantments), and the whole 'let's trick Solas with it' was a literal Hail Mary in case you didn't do the leg work to get Mythal's essence for the Redeem ending. Pretty sure Emmrich was just as shocked to find out Solas fell for it as everyone else but is probably happy to have reached a better conclusion than 'everyone died because we really thought we could take on Solas in a fight' ending xD
@maiafay
@maiafay 14 күн бұрын
@ If it was something they worked on the entire game, or even a quest like with Anders in DA2, then I wouldn’t have an issue. But it was whipped up off screen, no set up, and relies on players to head canon Solas being temporarily stupid and exhausted and maybe self sabotaging for it to be feasible. Again the writing is my sore spot with this game. The characters are either dumbed down, like Solas, or given godlike powers, like Rook who can somehow beat Elgar’nan in a one-on-one brawl. I don’t care if that dragon dying made him even half the strength. He’s a fricking immortal being, thousands of years old and build like a tank. Yet, here is Rook, whatever gender or race or whatever (hilarious if they are some waifu scrawny elf mage) somehow matching Elgar in strength, going toe to toe. The writing in this game is absolutely awful in some areas.
@Illusivem8ne
@Illusivem8ne 2 күн бұрын
@@maiafay EXACTLY. Throughout the DA series, the Elven Gods sounded like.. FRIGGIN Gods! And they had power to kill Titans. They controlled Dragons. THEY MADE THE ARCHDEMONS!! but the game has us believe a random guy with no abilities could kill the first ever Elven God with sheer luck and a dagger.. on paper it sounds like a true underdog story. But with no buildup, with no telling us how/why it’s all possible, it’s a dumpster fire of a story and a huge letdown for players who have been waiting 10 years for this game
