Very well played Haley! I feel like a philistine for bringing this up, but this particular Nocturne doesn't seem very nocturnal, at least not in the way that the others so far have seemed, where the structure appears to represent repose alternating with restlessness. Here it seems the repose didn't come first but came later, only to settle in at the very end, like a chaotic day (or a chaotic bit of daytime dancing perhaps) followed eventually by a more relaxing night. I'd be interested to know whether Chopin wrote any texts explaining his reasons for giving this one such a different feel.

I remember you mentioning this about a nocturne I recorded a few weeks ago 😀 I agree with you - Chopin didn't strictly take the name of the genre! His nocturnes are a journey and although there are always moments of calm, there are also moments of turbulence and desperation (although not so much here as in others). This reminds me, in a way of his scherzi, which are much to be serious to be considered 'jokes!'
