Let's all be reminded that this guy also holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Tokyo, the most prestigious university in Japan and one of the best in the world. You would think he majored in music theory or piano performance, but no, he's a trained mathematician, statistician, and information scientist. How does he even have time to practice?! He has my utmost respect.

@@kazumikato Hello Kazumi Kato. At 72 perhaps I am one of the oldest fans of Hayato. I am glad your daughter visited my country. I never had a chance of visiting Japan although I touched Japanese soil in 1981 and spent a night at the Nikko Narita Hotel on my way to China attending an invitation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (My PhD Degree is on Political Science). In those days I wrote that travelling from Japan's Narita airport to Beijing was like travelling from the future to the past... and look now. I LOVE the characterization of his Chopin interpretation. It’s shy, it’s vulnerable, full of wonder. Sometimes these sentiments are almost overwhelming, spilling into a more aggressive style. It just fits Chopin so well, the way I see it. I could really care less about who wins or loses these types of competitions. I enjoyed listening to him more than most others that participated, even those that made it farther than him.

Me too! Most of the participants in the Chopin Competition have only a limited number of classical music fans. However, Hayato Sumino has many fans all over the world due to his versatile talents such as classical, jazz, pop and improvisational arrangements. This versatile talent is special. No one else can. How much would it have been worth if he played Concerto? It would have been more effective than winning. Chopin's music, People who think classical music is boring have changed their perspective, It must have entered a new era as Chopin living in the present age.

Very happy news! Hayato Sumino will perform "Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor Op.11" with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra! ( Orkiestry Symfonicznej Polskiego Radia w Katowicach ) Currently, 11 cities in Japan have been decided to hold the concert, and the conductor is Marin Alsop. Hayato didn't make it to the final stage, but he get the opportunity to play with a Polish orchestra. This is really Fabulous.
I'm from Poland and I love Chopin's music. I found out about Hayato Sumino during preliminary round and it makes me upset when some people calling him 'just a youtuber'. Any critique shouldn't be share due to jealousy or any other meaningless feelings but should contain constructive, useful information, be objective. That's why criticises someone only because of totally not related motive is weak. It's unffair, he deserves as many respect and objective critique as other participants. Agree in all counts what's been said here about the As Dur Polonaise. I also like that he's not a showman with flashy outfits and / or unnecessary grand gestures, and that he puts elegance before all- something crucial when it comes to play Chopin. I truly hope he makes it to the finals, but whatever the outcome will be he's worth to keep an eye on. I also highly welcome his presence on social media. There is a strange prejudice against that in the Classical Music Elite which I don't understand. We live in the 21st century, and who isn't active online simply doesn't exist. Even an old curmudgeon like me understands that... I wish I'd had this resource when I was 24!! Fortunately the Chopin Institute has understood that as well, and is doing an awesome job. Bravo!

@AnonYmous-ry2jn3 жыл бұрын
@@pisicafairy everybody entitled to their opinion! I think men look better with shorter hair, and it’s much lower maintenance. Men should always look as if their appearance is not a major priority, which is why we all like to wear similar suits that differ only in details. Usually within a narrow range of colors. Attractive grooming in men draws attention away from grooming to confirm our main concerns lie elsewhere than physical appearance; in this case it would be music. But instead “Cateen” goes for a pretentious pseudo-Chopin look, which is what you would call an AFFECTATION, and the worst kind of affectation: one intended to seem “natural” but is actually extremely deliberate/calculated and very high maintenance. He’d be much better off with a simple, neat low-maintenance no/affectation haircut. Then we could focus more on us playing, how close THAT comes to the spirit of Chopin, rather than how much his hair does.
