Happy Plant Experiment Monday! 🌿💃🏻🌿 This is an update on both of my Philodendron Pink Princesses in which I released apical dominance (beheaded) to create fuller looking plants. What’s interesting is that both plants have very different results. Watch to see how beheading them transformed the way they look. Wishing everyone a fantastic Monday! ✌🏼💚🌿

Perfect title. CHOPPED Too many people chop up their plants. However this one looks like it really needed it. But yet...you say you are going to chop up the other one too. Good luck with all your chopping

Great, thorough video! I'm noticing something I've never noticed before. Pink Princess would make a RAD pseudo-bonsai! You could train the stems so easily to be super wacky or like, curly or trailing... woah. Fun.

I'm amazed at how many nodes you got, I got a little one leaf node cutting. Starting to get roots. Had a new leaf that was poping out it ended up slumping over and dying but the other leaf is still going. But haven't seen much new growth.

Wow Angela, your explanations are so thorough and scientific, yet not incomprehensible for the layman. Are you a horticulturist by any chance?
@VerdeAlcove
@VerdeAlcove 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am not a self-proclaimed horticulturist but simply a Plant Care Specialist. My plant knowledge comes from once managing and operating 3 greenhouses for two years, owning a plant business, conducting a lot of research, and at the early stage of my plant journey-killing quite a few plants. Since then, it’s been my goal to share what I learn about plants so others that are more inquisitive about the science behind them, can grow along with me. 💚

Thank you so much for explaining apical dominance on the ppp. I'd never heard this term before but i did know you had to cut it to get veragation. Right now my ppp is tiny i have two plants in a terracotta pot i'm getting new leaves but theyre so small. Do i need a grow tent or something or maybe more humidity or plastic pot??? its in a south facing window but i dont know what else to do.

Beauts! What about the cane types like your pictum tricolour that grow apical dominance but don’t have obvious nodes on the stems ? How would you cut them ?
@VerdeAlcove
@VerdeAlcove 4 жыл бұрын
What’s interesting about the pictum tricolor is that some of their stems are smooth without obvious nodes, while others will show the obvious layer of a presumed node. The thing is, releasing apical dominance applies to all plants. When I’m uncertain of where a node exists, I cut it towards the very top of the plant. The plant will eventually show me where the nearest node is with the development of a bud. It works every time for me. 🌿💚

Im glad I could help. Plants are individualistic so it’ll be based on its’ environment. Giving it bright indirect light will be key. I’ve seen roots grow in a week and other times, after 3 months.

Hi! Do you fertilize your PPP? If so, with what type of fertilizer? Also, I have orchid bark and premium tropical potting mix that I wanted to mix for my PPP. What ratio would you recommend?
@VerdeAlcove
@VerdeAlcove 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, my number one choice of fertilizer is compost or worm castings. It improves the soil versus the temporary flushing of nutrients with liquid fertilizers. My plants love both. I make my own soil mix for my plants: potting soil, coco coir, perlite + compost. This is what most of my indoor tropical plants are planted in. As long as your mix has good drainage and doesn’t get waterlogged, it’ll be fine. Most Philodendrons aren’t that picky. But I do avoid bark now as I’ve noticed fungus gnats love hiding in it.

Hello. I just want to ask after cutting the PPP, how long should we soak it in water?
@VerdeAlcove

Hi there, I’d leave it in water until you see some roots that are about an inch long. Then it’s ready to be transplanted to soil.

Have a question. Why does your pink princess have reddish coloured leaves?
@VerdeAlcove
@VerdeAlcove 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the leaf coloring is based on the amount of light it’s receiving. The less light it sees, the leaves develop darker pigments for increased photosynthesis. Increased photosynthesis offsets the plant from starving.

Why Pink Princess are too expensive?it’s not like they are hard to grow.
@VerdeAlcove
@VerdeAlcove 4 жыл бұрын
Mainly because supply can’t keep up with the demand. It’s become such a popular plant that everyone wants one, which has driven their price up.
