There is an undescribable excitement in the air when corn chopping season arrives. I haven't met a farmer who would argue that point. Is it the smell of the chopped corn, the whine of the cutter head or just knowing that the feed to help get your dairy through the winter months is being stored once again? What farmer hasn't grabbed a handful of the freshly chopped corn and taken a good whiff? Just a few fond memories of life on the farm. I miss those days! Your videos always put a smile on my face and I have your wonderful family to thank for that.

20 years ago this community echoed with the sound of choppers all summer and fall long. Now it is a rare sound as most of the small dairies are gone. And, the New Holland dealer lost his contract about 10 years ago. Not progress, in my humble opinion.

Beautiful scenery and beautiful footage. You are giving us all the angles on picking corn. Fall is hitting us too, but you are farther ahead of us. From the house I can see one tree that for some reason has a single lower branch that has turned bright orange. So pretty against the green. Thank you for taking us with you. Enjoyed it. Glad you have had some rain. I know God will provide for you. Take care.

In farming, you get the added benefit of watching the seasons change. Nice Autumn days are one of my favorite times of the year, other than knowing the change to the Winter season lies ahead. Glad your corn is yielding a better silage harvest than anticipated. Seems like you can never have too much feed with a herd of hungry cattle!!!

Love ❤️ 😍 your videos! We don't milk cows anymore ( only three, if that counts). We tried to get back in with our springers that we raise on 3 different occasions. Each time we had 25 to 30 head. Milk trucks drive by every day. No-one would take us. There was a time when we milked 130 critters. They use to beat down your door to try and get you to sign on. No more. Anyway, we still chop about 20-25 loads of 🌽 corn silage a year depending on the amount of critters that we have on the farm. We then put up whatever high moisture corn we think 🤔 that we need. Silage is put in the 20×70 and high moisture in one of the 14×40s. Our 2590 goes on the 892 with Horning crop processor. Kernels and cobs come out so,so nice with the processor. Chopping corn silage is like my favorite time of year!!😊

Corn is a great crop to grow if you are feeding cattle. Cows absolutely love eating corn silage. And you get such a tremendous volume off o an acre, when compared to hay. I have basically the same equipment as you are using, but haven’t chopped corn now for 3 years. Watching you folks makes me remember great times with my boys cutting corn.

Have you ever looked at adding a kernel processor to your 790? I'm sure there's a retrofit available from the aftermarket. Might squeeze a little more nutrition out of the corn. Jw👍
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they make a processor for that chopper, but they are crazy expensive!
@MorganOtt-ne1qj
@MorganOtt-ne1qj Жыл бұрын
@@trinitydairy nothing is cheap. I also know that you can get a processor that hooks to the bagger, and can do HMSC or earlage. Might save some time with the grinder. Anytime you can crack the kernel is like opening up a safe. $ inside. But I understand completely about balancing the books . Y'all are great to watch, God Bless you and your family!
