Works wonderfully in iOS in a DAW or AUM in combination something like the Cem Olcay Bud apps, which can take the chords and chop them up into arps, strums, and other things, or any number of other apps that can accept MIDI input. So can you explain the Chord Type at 2:50 a bit more? You select m9 but then the chords you play are m7, 7sus4, maj9, etc. So... what's going on? I'm guessing it generates a m9 chord from the root note, but then adjusts any notes that are out of key to the closest note in the scale. Is that correct? Is there a way to force it to play a chord type, even if some notes are out of key?

@@audiomodern Thanks for the quick reply! I understand how absolute and relative mode determine the root note of the chord. But where I'm confused is at 2:50, the minor 9th chord type is selected and then he plays a bunch of chords, none of which are minor 9th chords. So what exactly does chord type do?
@audiomodern3 жыл бұрын
@@DreamwareMusic In this case we use the Absolute Keyboard Mode, the scale is A#, and the Minor9 Chord type setting produces a Fm7b9 (on F key) which includes the following notes: F, E♭, C, A♭ & G♭ which is correct. how do I throw the midi into my playlist
@herschoolcolors3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the chord pads: 1. Can I assign a chord to a pad simply by playing all the notes polyphonically on my midi keyboard and then clicking the appropriate pad? (This would be for using the app as a simply chord memorizer for people with some amount of keyboard fluency.) 2. Can I then play those pads with a single key on that same midi keyboard that I used to manually/polyphonically enter the full chords? 3. If the answer to (2) is yes, then let's say I have one of the pads assigned to be triggered by D2 on my midi keyboard. Then I decide to enter another chord by hand on the midi keyboard to assign to a different pad, but this chord includes the note D2 in it. Obviously I don't want to trigger the chord on the pad assigned to D2 when I'm entering this second chord. Is the app able to avoid this problem? Is there a way to toggle between chord-entry and pad-playing (though in this case the "pads" are just keys on the keyboard)? Thanks for answering questions here.

@@audiomodern That's not really what I'm seeing. Setting voice 1 to -12 just puts a root note an octave down. I like these kinds of AI programs that can turn one note into a chord. They do beautifully well, but I often find their sounds to be rather cold and unemotional. I used to use a lot of loops and other wav files rather than try to express the emotions that I wanted to produce. After a while, I realized that the emotions were not mine. They inhibited me from developing my own style of expression since I was relying on mechanical means rather than my own natural evolving abilities. I have spent the time recently to do a deep dive into learning these chords and their progressions on my own rather than relying on less personal preset sounds. I am advancing slowly, almost glacially, but I am learning the natural chord progressions rather than cheating (I don't mean that as being dishonest, it's just not me doing the creative work). Using a preset or wav file to enhance my music is not the issue. If I use too much automation I am not evolving as a musician, I am evolving as an engineers or mixing artist. Not at all bad, but it's not conducive to making music based upon 'how I feel' rather than how the mechanical sound makes me feel. I think my music and soundscapes are better when I rely on my own instincts rather than what the program is telling me to do. I am not a great pianist or synth player but I make music the best I can. If I do it by using my best efforts I feel as if I have accomplished more than just relying on an AI to generate sequences or grooves for me. Perhaps a 50/50 partnership is best for my purposes? That way I can create as well as generate.
