Still a great app in 2024. Works wonderfully in iOS in a DAW or AUM in combination something like the Cem Olcay Bud apps, which can take the chords and chop them up into arps, strums, and other things, or any number of other apps that can accept MIDI input. Super easy to use and the ability to randomize settings selectively is unequalled by other chord generating apps.

Just bought this and really enjoying exploring it. Is there a way to audition the chords I'm entering into the sequencer? What I'd like to be able to do is click on chords in the sequencer (to edit them) and also to hear them played as I click on them. It would be nice if any change to the chord (such as voicing, chord type, etc) could be auditioned as well, so the different changes could be heard as they are made.

Changing Chord Voicings and Chord Inversions is an excellent and clear function in Cubase Pro 11. If I have my MIDI track in the project and I want to align this track with the other parts with regard to voicings and inversions or to arrange it in harmony with the other instrument tracks, I have fantastic and extremely clear options in the Cubase scale editor. So can you explain the Chord Type at 2:50 a bit more? You select m9 but then the chords you play are m7, 7sus4, maj9, etc. So... what's going on? I'm guessing it generates a m9 chord from the root note, but then adjusts any notes that are out of key to the closest note in the scale. Is that correct? Is there a way to force it to play a chord type, even if some notes are out of key?

@DreamwareMusic
@DreamwareMusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@audiomodern Thanks for the quick reply! I understand how absolute and relative mode determine the root note of the chord. But where I'm confused is at 2:50, the minor 9th chord type is selected and then he plays a bunch of chords, none of which are minor 9th chords. So what exactly does chord type do?
@audiomodern
@audiomodern 3 жыл бұрын
@@DreamwareMusic In this case we use the Absolute Keyboard Mode, the scale is A#, and the Minor9 Chord type setting produces a Fm7b9 (on F key) which includes the following notes: F, E♭, C, A♭ & G♭ which is correct. However, In some cases the algorithm will try and adjust to the closest notes on the selected key, but you can 'bypass' this behavior when running on 'Chromatic' Scale Type.

how do I throw the midi into my playlist
@herschoolcolors

Regarding the chord pads: 1. Can I assign a chord to a pad simply by playing all the notes polyphonically on my midi keyboard and then clicking the appropriate pad? (This would be for using the app as a simply chord memorizer for people with some amount of keyboard fluency.) 2. Can I then play those pads with a single key on that same midi keyboard that I used to manually/polyphonically enter the full chords? 3. If the answer to (2) is yes, then let's say I have one of the pads assigned to be triggered by D2 on my midi keyboard. Then I decide to enter another chord by hand on the midi keyboard to assign to a different pad, but this chord includes the note D2 in it. Obviously I don't want to trigger the chord on the pad assigned to D2 when I'm entering this second chord. Is the app able to avoid this problem? Is there a way to toggle between chord-entry and pad-playing (though in this case the "pads" are just keys on the keyboard)? Thanks for answering questions here.

Great! I do not know anything about Music Theory and I am looking for a product like this one. I am sorry for the basic questions I have: Once I set up a scale, like C Major, every single note I press in a 5 octave keyboard will produce a chord? If so there will be duplicate chords across the keyboard? Like hitting the note C note and C note one octave below, will produce the same exact chord? Basically in the C Major scale could I have a maximum of 7 different chords type since there are 7 notes? Thanks a lot!

Hello 👋, This can be done too, but if you have engaged any of the various randomization or triggering options no two chords will ever be the same. Feel free to grab the trial version and test it on your setup 👌

I like these kinds of AI programs that can turn one note into a chord. They do beautifully well, but I often find their sounds to be rather cold and unemotional. I used to use a lot of loops and other wav files rather than try to express the emotions that I wanted to produce. After a while, I realized that the emotions were not mine. They inhibited me from developing my own style of expression since I was relying on mechanical means rather than my own natural evolving abilities. I have spent the time recently to do a deep dive into learning these chords and their progressions on my own rather than relying on less personal preset sounds. I am advancing slowly, almost glacially, but I am learning the natural chord progressions rather than cheating (I don't mean that as being dishonest, it's just not me doing the creative work). Using a preset or wav file to enhance my music is not the issue. If I use too much automation I am not evolving as a musician, I am evolving as an engineers or mixing artist. Not at all bad, but it's not conducive to making music based upon 'how I feel' rather than how the mechanical sound makes me feel. I think my music and soundscapes are better when I rely on my own instincts rather than what the program is telling me to do. I am not a great pianist or synth player but I make music the best I can. If I do it by using my best efforts I feel as if I have accomplished more than just relying on an AI to generate sequences or grooves for me. Perhaps a 50/50 partnership is best for my purposes? That way I can create as well as generate.

Thanks for the feedback, currently Chordjam does not contain any sounds but you can use it as a MIDI app to “feed” any of your synths, samplers or other modules. Here’s a jam session with it 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5bEgYyNrLmih5Y

Can Chordjam use different voices, such as an electric piano? Ah! Now you mention exactly what I asked about! Well, sort of. It changes the chord voicings, but not the sounds being used.

I wish these tools were a little smarter and showed not only a bunch of random chords thrown together, but actually suggested next chords by harmonic function. That, and i'm tired of every one of these videos using weird D#add9sus13/5sus53 chords instead of simple minor/major chords with which i can build an actual meaningful progression, rather than a "groove" or a "beat".

Hi, yes Chordjam can suggest a progression by selecting the presets of the Sequencer, and here is a musical example using less complex chord types: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5bEgYyNrLmih5Y
