I remember the Lydian chord! That was intense. I'm definitely looking forward to your Alex Lifeson video. A number of well-known alternative rock/post-punk players really work this kind of thing too, most notably Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar, solo), Roger Miller (Mission of Burma, not "King of the Road"), and Craig Wedren/Nathan Larson (Shudder to Think) if you want to go down that rabbit hole. In jazz fusion, Pat Metheney does that kind of thing a lot.

So glad I came across your channel. Saw DT in ‘93 in Houston, TX and have seen them 2 more times in Atlanta, GA in ensuing decades. All times with original drummer. Monster musicians, every one of them. Thanks for doing these! Ps. Loved the ZZ Top vids - as a 49yr old native Houstonian, Willy G and the boys are my ATF.

Love seeing Prog metal fans, or just metal fans in general who can also appreciate the classic rock/blues too! It’s actually pretty rare.

So many great lessons! I'm casting a vote for Steve Rothery / Marillion...

Hey there I wanted to thank you as prog can often feel very intimidating but the way you break down the chord sections with the open drone notes makes it seem much more attainable for mere mortal guitarists. To be honest as much as I admire Petrucci as a lead guitarist , I am more interested in learning how they write songs and taking that influence into my song writing because they are one of my favourite bands . I was so obsessed when I found them ! Haha not to mention I have tried my luck playing Spirit Carries on , Under a glass moon and On the back of angels and while I can play OTBOA slowly and I can play the solo for that song quite close to full speed ( an achievement for sure ) .. when I think of attaining the speed required to play spirit Carrie’s on or something crazy like as I am .. I feel intimidated 😂. However I do believe that nothing is impossible !

But what I feel is ...JP likes such melodies and he didn't think of ascending or descending....though he practised 6hrs and JM too... meeting at party and looking at each other... amazing
