Hey gang - I did such a rush job on trying to crank out this tribute lesson for John that I didn't even turn on my lava lamp. I just noticed it was off - whoops! Duh, me! 😏👍

Thanks for this. A friend of mine played in a bar band around 1980 in Lancashire England playing classic rock covers. John was the other guitarist and his playing was incendiary then constantly using a cherry SG before he used the famous black Les Paul. The band knew they were going to lose him and Tygers came knocking on the door a year later. He was a great hang and he loved playing.
@pcooper35599 күн бұрын
Was that in Blackpool??
@PeterFrayne-o4n8 күн бұрын
@pcoop. It was in Blackburn and Accrington. The band was Streetfighter and the singer and bass player was Merv Goldsworthy who went on to fame with FM to this day.

It seems a lot of people were taken aback by the news of John's death. It made me think of 40 years ago and the video for "Love Ain't No Stranger" by Whitesnake and I am still knocked out by that simple but powerful chorus riff. He had GREAT tone, he was one of my favorite Les Paul players. The Still of the Night riff is a signature, Blue Murder was a step beyond in his playing, a bit of a departure from what we'd heard before. I watched Valley of the Kings yesterday as well, and a great live video of John doing Sill of the Night in a three piece solo band and his vocal was also great. Thanks for the tribute, it was good to get it out. RIP Mr Sykes.

Seemed like a strong person as well. Which always scares many, perhaps that is why he sort of stayed away from huge success. I Do not know anything, but his music and of course guitar slingery are some of the best ever. Also the songs he dropped in the last few years are absolutely brilliant, out alive and dawning of a brand new day❤❤❤ RIP

Hate to here that news. Missed his playing until the recent singles. I'd looked forward to him making a huge comeback. Cancer is like a nuclear war, too many good people lost and so few of us go into remission. He was a king! Thanks for tons of great content and for reading the requests. I didn't get that many gifts for the last 3 x-masses. Be healthy and safe bro.

LATE NIGHT, it would be nice if you went over all the John Sykes Chord Voices he has done because he doesn't use normal stock major open or barre chords its like these SLASH chords that he has made up and invented. Whitesnake song is this love has unusual chord voices to be a Rock Ballad which Skyes has rhythm chord vocabulary which it seem he has a jazz theory teacher maybe or he just figured these chord voices out on his own? John Skyes has a bunch of solo album with his 3 piece band that you can make a video lesson about the riffs and solos on those albums but they are not uploaded on YT or remastered yet so they are on amazon to get the CD copies. They have his solo albums on YT but low quality audio. I hope they come out with a John Skyes box set with unleased songs , demos, etc.
