Tinashe you were not completely wrong about the mentioning of suicide, especially being that Korea is one of the countries with the highest suicide rates. I don't know why people in the comments section are saying the song has absolutely nothing to do with suicide. They pretty obviously hint at suicide at the beginning of the mv, they also hint at the ferry tragedy that happened in Korea. The song is about missing someone, whether that be a lover, a friend, or a family member, so yes it could most definitely be about all these things at the same time.. death, suicide, tragedy, break ups, long distance relationships etc. it doesn't have to be about just one thing

It's survivor's guilt at the beginning e.g. the surviving students that disobeyed the orders or luckily had something happen that prompted them to leave. A teacher also committed suicide shortly after because 'surviving alone is too painful'. One of the divers that worked on retrieving bodies (they were told to stop) committed suicide as he was haunted by the memories of handling the dead.

It’s actually a very sad interpretative dance done by BTS. Actually I think it was the first time I saw a kpop act do an interpretative dance. Since spring day has a very sensitive topic about sewol tragedy. The members and Bighit, doesn’t like to do any comments regarding it. But they surely say what they want to say without needing any words and showed it through the MV and the dance, while the song has double meanings and can be interpreted the way the listeners relate to. if you watch the spring day MV, this interpretative dance, and the song after, you’ll realise the real meaning of SPRING DAY it would turn 360 deg and was actually a chilling sad and reality song... I really applaud RM, in the way he writes this Spring day... it sure give me chills. And I believe each of the members this time had a specific role they played at. I’m pretty sure, JIN was representing a dead victim of the sewol tragedy. And Taehyung and Jimin are one of the sewol survivors. Spring day is a very emotional and meaningful song out of all BTS societal songs. It didn’t win Song of the year and Music video of the year 2017 in korea for nothing. Btw, thanks for reacting to this, :) you should watch MMA live performance of Spring day, it was epic! They did the dance and the song effin live! :)

The song has double meanings and can be interpreted in the way for the listeners to relate into. (RM IS SUCH AN EFFIN GENIUS! 🙌) But the MV and the dance they had prepared is an indiscreet tribute for the sewol tragedy survivors. Since it’s a taboo topic in Korea. They might end up black listed by the govt (I’m serious.) For the families of the victims, they did spring day. (And bighit & BTS secretly donated to the families of the sewol tragedy in the end of 2016, before they release Spring day) so in that aspect through MV and The dance they had pay a truthful respect to them and thanks to that, whenever spring day is listened by people, they will instantly remember sewol.

lol you were right Tinashe, it's called skinship. This isn't about suicide at all. It's about losing friendships and the Sewol ferry disaster, where many kids died and a lot of govt fuck ups happened. RM and Suga have told us many times that this is what this song is about, not suicide. Also Jonghyun of Shinee committed suicide because of depression, not specifically because of the industry or his work, so let's not mix up those two issues together, he literally completed a final album, mv and photoshoot for his fans to get after his death.

No. RM and Suga have never stated that it is about those things.. the video and their actions (donations to the families of the survivors) hint very strongly about this. I am not saying this bc I disagree with those theories (b/c I actually strongly agree with them)...but it's important to know that RM actually said the connections in the video were "unintentional"and that it was about missing friends and said it was up for interpretation, perhaps because it is politically risky in Korea to sound like you are criticizing the govt (the govt was highly criticized for their actions/inaction re: the tragedy). Or maybe bc the video has multiple meanings as RM suggests. As Army, as we learn more and more about BTS, we should be careful what we claim the members have said or haven't said, even as it is fun to think about the theories, some of which are probably true.

The song is released 1st quarter of 2017. Coincidentally, the title of the album is "you never walk alone". The message of the entire album is that yes, we all have our personal struggles (all members have their solos) but you are not the only one going through it and you can take/give comfort to/from the people with them.

I like this group that you gathered in this!! This is a song about missing people you love and it does have a lot to do with the Sewol Ferry tragedy, but they couldn't directly reference it because of the government. Be confident, Tinashe! You were actually right the first time, it is called "skinship." Skinship (a pseudo-English Japanese and Korean term) is a cultural thing, because it is socially expected for close friends of the same sex (the rules are different for friends of the opposite sex, though) to often touch each other to express their friendship and closeness. That's why you often see group members or friends touch, hug, and hold hands in other videos (such as interviews, behind the scenes, variety shows, etc.).

So glad you reacted to the Spring Day choreography. It’s one of my favorites because it’s a slow, contemporary styled song... Anyway this song came out February of 2017 while Jonghyun from Shinee passed away at the end of that year. The song was written by RM at a park and yes it is about friendship and missing someone. Some ARMYs say it’s about RM and Suga, but I don’t know exactly. The piles of clothes are believed to be a reference of the Sewol Ferry tragedy where over 300 people died (304) back in 2014, the clothes being represented as the victims. The shoes at the end hanging on the tree that Jimin found could also represent the victims as the tree is basically a portrayal of moving on from the past... Thank you for reacting! I believe the music video is based on “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas”, which is a novel. Its basically about a boy who is suffering to make other people happy, which is Jungkook. But his friends don't want him to suffer anymore, so they leave Omelas, a place that is "perfect" and stick it out together. Theres scenes from the book, like the Carousel, the long Stairs, the laundry mat. At the end Jungkook runs through all the scenes and meets his friends at the end. And they walk away from Omelas together.

In the case of BTS, the boys challenge themselves to do better and better and that’s why they practice a lot. Since they’ve been together so long now, I don’t know if they spend as much time practicing as they used to (they pick up the choreo faster now). They are not pushed by Big Hit. Unfortunately , it is true for many of the other labels though.

This was performed on an awards ceremony a few days after the news broke out, in a way I think bts wanted to give a tribute to him through their song (even though this came out a long time ago). Everyone was pretty emotional that night, it was an unusually emotional award show cause usually idols perform hype songs but I guess after that tragedy the idols relate to each other and wanted to comfort each other through music. When spring day was performed you can actually see idols tearing up/crying while they mouthed the lyrics as they watched.

A little late to this one but I love that whenever the group moves from one location to another they do it together in very similar movements as a part of the phrase "You Never Walk Alone" for the WINGS album (I think) especially at 5:04. They had fans in the US wayyyy before they even became "big" in the US, before bbma before AMA. And yes she acknowledges their skills which is only one of the reasons why they became so popular in the first place! Not just suicide. This song is about the" lost" who belonged to our family members or friends and so one. So MV of Spring Day has many symbolic items like suitcases in empty rail cabins, yellow ribbons on the rusty windmill and a huge bunch of clothes. There were tragic ship accident a few years ago in Korea. Though this song is for those who have lost, to give some courage for living. You can notice the letters 'you never walk alone' in MV saying we can share our sorrow n help each other. It must be a 'explained clip' on KZbin. You can check it out

"Spring day" is partially a tribute for both victims and survivors for the Sewol Ferry tragedy, there's many callbacks in MV, like V at the beginning (survivors has that sydrome they feel guilty that they survived and their friends not). There's also one callback to Shoah tragedy. Without the MV - the song is indeed about suicide and depression

Honest speaking, it takes me a few times to watch this dance practice without crying. The moment the dance start I feel like crying so I off it cause I was watching in public. I didn't know what is the meaning of the song at first but I can sense that there are sadness in that dance and song. After watching the dance practice, I search for the translation of the lyrics and that when I knew that this song is about a friend who past away or something.

I think this song and MV have nothing to do with suicide at all. It's misunderstanding. This song is a year old. RM & Suga said it's about friends and waiting for Spring. The title of the album is YOU NEVER WALK ALONE. So you can see a lot of references of sacrifice of minorities and being together. Even in the 1st scene of V&train and the sign of Omelas. My interpretation is "We shouldn't live on the sacrifice and unhappiness of others. We should go together. The hardship won't last forever. Spring'll come."

When you mistake “skinship” (Kpop term) w/ “kinship” lol...I mean BTS are a kinship, so you’re not 100% wrong. Spring Day was released in February 2017, Jonghyun (Shinee’s main vocal) suicided in his apartment December of that year.

A song, a dance about the sorrow of loss...deeply emotional song in which in the dance the emotions were portrayed. I have to be careful in my judgement of people who laugh thru anything to do with this song. 304 kids were sent to the death. A senseless death. They should not have died. In S Korea kids are brought up to obey their elders. These died with life jackets on. But they were instructed to go to their cabins rather than be allowed to jump overboard. Meanwhile the crew & captain used life boat to escape death. Then government waited so long to ensure no survivors. But truth came out. BTS are a group of young people who believe kids have right to speakup ...speak their minds...a right to be seen & heard ...not to blindly follow what elders have to say when in their hearts they have questions contrary to what they are being told. You see these guys are intelligent. RM extremely so with Suga close behind & others knocking at the door of understanding life at deeper level than most young people. Maybe it's being guided by RM as their leader with savage Suga there to push. I don't know but these young people truly get life and the unfairness adults have brought to their futures. You might tell background of song before having your friends react with you as each of BTS songs have a message about some life issue. You guys are great. But I had a hard time at the laughter on this one. Maybe cause I have had too much loss happen in my life so this song is a healing balm for me. Keep up the work. Eager to see more from you.
