This is what soldier does. Most sign up for a job, some do it because they want to "do good" they say . . . but if you wanted to do good, you would go to work at a homeless shelter. No one decides to take up legalised murdering because they have an over whelming drive to "do good". ALL Pragmatic people say to themself "The world is dangerous, if we don't have an army we can't protect ourselves" but only people who are OK with doing murder go on to join an army.

@@crashzone6600 If you're thorough enough, yeah. The problem is that it's kind of hard to get everyone in a galaxy-spanning area unless you have some bogus life sense powers. So in this situation, you're a whole lot more likely to murder -almost- everyone and then some time later the descendants of some scattered survivors come roaring in blowing up your shiny and totally-not-built-on-billions-of-corpses pacifist utopia.

I had the same feeling. I think it's because the other ship needs to be directly to the side to see the hand signal, but they are in a V formation so there's no way they could see it. I think the hand signals go back to WWI and maybe WW2 when individual planes didn't have radios. You could maybe make a "radio silence" leap of the imagination here to suspend disbelief.

I've almost completed Chorus and highly recommend it. I won't spoil much, but the ship in this video is only featured for an hour or so until you get your feet wet. Once you upgrade to the hero ship and are able to drift (among other powers), the gameplay really rockets up from good to excellent. It has a solid story, a cool relationship between your character and her ship, lots of combat variety, and just enough side material to keep things interesting. It really is the perfect length, too. I can tell I'm going to wrap it up at around 20 hours which is just about perfect; long enough to try everything out a few times, but not long enough to feel repetitive or dragged out. A surprising gem!

Is it a skill issue, where you learn the mechanics of the game and have more fun because you understand it? Or is it just..literally less fun in the beginning, regardless of skill? Mount and Blade or Battlefront?

Unfortunately, it's nothing like descent, except perhaps some of the graphics. I'd suggest looking at Overload, if you want a modern Descent 1 & 2 style game.

yeah, the whispering gets old fast as she just does not shut up, like almost every single shot you take she comments on something. It DOES get better after a while when she gets another character to actually talk to, but for the first hour or so I was trying to find a option to 'reduce the chatter'

I kind of dig the narrative, then again I'm a sucker for anti-central planning story lines. But the whispering is horrendous. It didn't work in 1984 for Dune, it doesn't work in 2021 for this either.

I saw you got only 3 weapons. I love Everspace because it has lots of cool guns. Will the upgrades change the shots or do they all look the same all the time?

there is multiple variations like some shoot faster but do less damage etc but ultimately there is just the 3. Its not quite as bad as it may look on paper as while its only 3 you switch frequently, each weapon is strong vs one type of defense so once you start getting mixed groups showing up you switch dozens of times per battle. You then combine that 'rock/paper/scissors' with the physic powers and drifting and the combat gets quite good, its one of the strongest parts of the game imo

I finished the game, and you only ever have 3 weapons. Technically, there are more, but they're all direct linear upgrades that are almost indistinguishable. The "loot" system in the game might as well not exist. The abilities you get are probably the only real "interesting" thing in the game around combat. You get an ability to teleport behind enemies, which is rather OP. The shock/disable ability, which is semi-OP. And a star-shot ability, which is extremely OP. Around the end of the game, I didn't use my weapons, and just star-shot through everything. The problem with the OP abilities, is that there was almost no challenge or skill, and no reason to use anything but star-shot.

I found the whispering to be ULTRA jarring. The story came across as the game trying to recruit me into this "chorus cult." Much of the game kinda creeped me out to be honest. The comment about it being "the only thing that made her character interesting" is accurate. Well, technically, the whispering wasn't interesting, it was just the most interesting thing about an uninteresting character.

Man, the way you pick up stuff by flying over their huge onscreen icons really jars, especially as they tried to make the game look so realistic. Could have made them a lot smaller and then you scoop them.

deepsilver make the x series, if you are into space sims then x2 and x3 were amazing, huge, mind bendingly complex games. They had their flaws but they were still some of the best space sims ever made.

Last time I mess up at the space docks in elite dangerous. The dock sent me a fine of 500 credits. No need to ask how much debt 1st? Your flying must be titled "Little chick" I think you travel faster if you follow that railway like gate.

Chiming one year later. This is a great game. The only complain is inability to save mid quest, which can be really annoying. If you accept too many missions at once, prepare to play for few hours before being able to save.

The only real "jank" I saw was between 23:23 and 23:26 when it literally POPPED from cutscene to gameplay the lighting effects changed so drastically and fast it was really obvious.

Might just scratch a totally different itch, and shouldn't cause my head to constantly compare those two.
