Funny fact. Ixion killed his father in law by pushing him into a bed of burning coals and wood. Zeus took pity on Ixion and invited him to Olympus where Ixion lusted after Hera. Zeus created a cloud of Hera to trick Ixion and Ixion had slept with the fake Hera, creating the race of Centaurs. Zeus punished Ixion by binding him to a winged fiery wheel that was always turning. Is this why the game is called IXION? The ship is like a fiery spinning wheel.

@10:53 The centrifugal force once the habitat is up to full spin speed will mean 'gravity' would appear to be outward only*. The only time you'd have force acting sideways as you described would be if the habitat needed to boost (or I guess reduce) it's spin speed. Then there would be acceleration/deceleration G's, though the effect would be negligible due to the mass of the habitat and the power that would be required to accelerate/decelerate it at any kind of noticeable rate. Such a force would be induced at a very slow rate. Partly due to the power requirements mentioned earlier but also because the habitat wouldn't be built to withstand high G loads in that particular direction because it would never be necessary. *Think of being in a car, when you accelerate hard, you are pushed back in to the seat. That is the force you described. When you are up to speed, you don't feel any G's, until you need to turn. Then the G's are sideways - or outward. That is what would be felt in the habitat. To feel constant acceleration in a habitat it would have to constantly be increasing it's spin speed (or decrease if you don't mind the ceilings becoming the floor and vice-versa). Also bear in mind there would still be the outward G's which would increase as the spin speed increased... It's just not a very friendly environment if you're trying to change the spin speed of the habitat :)
@TheYear25252 жыл бұрын
You will have sideways force in a rotational habitat every time you move or merely move a body part, due to the coriolis effect. The bigger the radius, the less it is, though. That is actually a strong point against rotational gravity for us in our current state of space travel. It not only messes with your sense of motion (circulating liquid in the equilibrium organ during and shortly after head turns) but also with every movement you do and it's going into different relative directions, based on how you are oriented, which would make it super annoying, most probably even interfering with simple tasks.

Yeah, been looking forward to the game since last year's E3 where they put out the trailer (the whole Cutscene by Dolos) I had assumed that something went wrong with the engines and the station blew up the moon and itself, and from the context of the prologue, it seems like the station is safe but you did indeed blew up the moon, thereby accelerating the plans for humanity's survival. I think the plan was, as stated by the tutorial, a series of jumps back and forth to Proxima Centauri using gradually increasing crew sizes and passengers like pioneers to establish a foothold in the new planet by building resource structures in space for material gathering to build a starting city on the surface. The only thing I see that I don't like is that the game would feel like its going to be chopped up into chapters where the Ixion's jumps would indicate the end and start of the next one. Hopefully I'm wrong on this as that would mean that the game is a strict railroad and is basically a campaign/storymode experience. Though I do want a campaign mode, I also want an open sandbox experience.

10:55 Fun fact. While your instinct is common, the way forces work on a spinning object are a bit weird, but you can understand it pretty quickly if you look into the physics. Basically objects moving in a circle would fly away from the center if allowed to, but the exterior wall is getting in your way, so you end up pinned to the exterior wall. If you’ve ever visited a faire with a graviton, it’s a bit like that, pinned to the exterior wall, but the larger the structure is the less sickening/disorienting it is to be on.

The Tech Lab fits nicely in the upper right. The road lines up exactly with the Docking Bay. The road also lines up with the EVA Airlock if you build it along the top as well.

If i understand the way you envisioned it, that the head is closest to the pivot point of the structure when standing, then yes, that is correct and is precisely what the game is showing
