I'm a still recovering addict. I used to work on michigan ave but in inkster. These videos somehow make me happy and show me everyday what I came from and give me the insight of seeing it somehow helps me get that excitement of the streets without having to be out there. @@CMoore8539 Very true. I eventually quit, after a legal charge and a bad overdose (nearly died, then a constant migraine and ringing ears for a month). I used to think that having a “moment of clarity” and getting clean was bs. Now I see there are events that can make it happen, whether you feel “ready” or not. When I ran into a street friend of mine who had cleaned up (he’s 60+). He quit and, when I asked how, he said, “You can’t just smoke forever.” I looked at him, perplexed, and now I know what he meant. Your body or your life will put limits on it...you’re fortunate if the limit isn’t death or disability. It’s crazy how addiction would not let me see that reality. I hope all the naysayers realize that most people do quit before they die, and understand that the brain is hijacked during addiction. Stress makes it much harder to quit, so kindness and resources really help. The human organism has a very strong will to survive...people do recover, with help and support.

Hi Tom, I've been watching you for a few weeks now, and I love what you do for these ladies. I was down there around five years ago, and I might have straightened out my life sooner if I had some of the support these women have from your channel. Most of the ladies you interview were family to me at one point. We not only saw each other every day, but we also had each other backs. We spent holidays and birthday with each other when we had no one else to spend it with (even if it was eating Thanksgiving dinner in an alley together, it mattered). I know that people are concerned with these girls using the money on drugs, but think for that hour or two that they have that money, they get to sit down and have a little peace instead of being on the stroll risking their life. Please dont ever give up on these girls! They are truly remarkable women. These women have been through more in their lives than half the people on here could ever imagine. Dont ever let anyone change your thought or feeling on helping them. I have been sober going on five years, and if you had asked me six years ago if I ever thought I would get away from Detroit, I would have told you no because I liked getting high too much. Now, I have my own home, Im in the process of buying a new vehicle, and at my job, I am a supervisor with responsibilities I never thought someone would trust me to do. Tom, please tell Becky, Ebonie, Ginger, and Jeannie that I said hi, and never give up. The more times they try, the more chances they have to get it right. XOXO Joanne

Unfortunately, that's the mentality when you're on the streets. That doesn't make them ungrateful or unappreciative. They are PEOPLE who are stuck in addiction and willing to risk their lives and sell their bodies to get high and avoid being sick. So anytime you see one of the girls sick or having a bad day, they will more than likely be in a hurry and come off as very unappreciative. When I was in my addiction, you could have given me 5 grand, and I probably would have asked for another 20. That's just how addiction takes over your brain and how being on the streets turns you.

Tom, How do I send her and Jana a letter? I also have a ton of old clothes that would fit them, and makeup, body spray ect... I am clearing out and organizing my home, and coming across tons of things... I currently live in Garden City. How can I get in touch with them? I am a recovering Herion/crack as well... 3 years clean. I lost everything, I lost custody of my daughter, and am in the last step of regaining back 50/50 shared physical/legal with my ex. ( her dad ) it’s been one hell of a long road but I have done it, my daughter was 5 when I first started using, my BF at the time introduced it to me, I was trying to get him clean, and finally I was so frustrated he kept relapsing that I said fuck it and tried it.. stupidest thing I have ever done, it costed me the most important thing in life.. I missed 2 years of my daughters life. I am thankful and blessed I am here today, clean, sober, and I’m my daughters life consistently. Please, let me know how I can get in touch. The visuals of this is a bit odd because they literally have no where to put this stuff when they're homeless. And although the trinkets & such are thoughtful, the energy & money would be much better spent towards people in rehab or in the process of transitioning back into society, because they're actually proven sincere in their wanting to do better by taking necessary steps to get sober & off the street. Or, towards their children & whoever's taking care of their children.

Maybe we can all put up for a storage unit for some of these people. Imagine realy liking somn that you own and loosing it constantly due to lack of stability and secure storage. Just an idea. I would love to coordinate with Tom and a few others if the opportunity comes up. I am a survivor of human trafficking as a child and went right back to it as a young adult untill my early 40's . i sought out support from my community from a 211 number you can call here in Wa state. Through exposure therapy and support groups i was able to heal and let go of the shame that kept me down. I pray this for each person surviving this hard circumstance.

But there was something bout her I didnt trust. Maybe jus being toughen by the streets but I still hope. The things people dont understand is some of them had it bad growing up. I get that. Fyi a rosary is not a piece of jewellery to be worn. Although a lot of folks wear them...that is not their purpose. They are prayer beads. You pray the Hail Mary and Our Father on each bead. If you Google it you can learn how to say the rosary. It's a beautiful gift. Becky you are beautiful.
