Dear sir, you're the real martial man... I am a budo enthusiast... But you're the real one. The amazing part of you is that you're not restricted to one style or an art. As a true enthusiast, you're ready to explore everything. And your discipline and "beginners like mind" is simply amazing. A big salute to your work sir! Peace and harmony, Sensei Maharaj 😊

This was a most interesting interview with a genial grand-master. It is very difficult to find such people today who are so generous with their knowledge and genuinely smile. This interview reminded me of the stories my Dad used to tell of his time in Hong Kong... I wonder why the people of the South are so friendly...

I just realized how similar this is to rapier fencing. It's all conical geometries of defense, single tempo counterattacks, and a preference on point-oriented linearity as opposed to circular power generation. Really neat. They even use that portion of arm near the elbow like the forte of the rapier blade, defending close to the joint so there's less incoming leverage to deal with, and more power/control at the end of the weapon/arm.

The traditional Chinese and Japanese martial arts we know today, are developed independently, at the same time as the Renaissance. Which is uncanny, because it seems like there was some sort of synchrony happening.

I trained in this art for long time very good defence art make your arms very tuff soon as you block attacker it hurts them.. this art they doing lots man on man drills so all the body becomes hard. So when u block someone it hurts them and when hammerhand them they are hurt lots. Very basic and it also gets very much in-depth. So good art for every1.

You should interview Roger D. Hagood about Chu Gar and Southern Praying Mantis in general. Chow Gar is an offshoot of Chu Gar and Ip Shui's design. They are Chu Gar but you should look to the Chinese clans of Kwongsai Jook Lum. This was the highest order of Som Dot's kung fu. Chu Gar being the second order, Tith Ngaw Iron Ox being the third.

Yes his last comment about KO in 6-7 seconds sums up the ethos of all Kung Fu (whatever style) that it is a "one second fight" not fighting rounds for ages using loads of energy and fitness, this guy would seriously injure someone in a real life confrontation...………………...respect...………..

I wonder if the ball protection method works even in movement. I can well imagine it takes some will-power to keep the gonads up inside the body but they wouldn't stay there permanently, surely. That wouldn't fit our understanding of male biology, which states that the balls need to cool down outside the body. But, it obviously takes time (even a millisecond) to do raise the gonads consciously, which may be just enough time to attack. Also, if it takes will-power, when under attack, will-power may vanish, making this form of defense not as effective as it seems. I don't really know, but I'm speculating here. I also imagine just based on watching his body movements, like his defense against a kick to his thigh, that his gonad-protection method, the breathing chi-gong and his defensive hardening of body are all related. What precisely then is the breathing method he uses to create this defensive shield...? That should be the question. And how long before we get results? That's the other important question.

It takes around 2 years of specific training to develop this skill and is part of the Chow Gar mantis training syllabus for inner door students. The method used is hard body Qi gong set.

@@blackhorse7553 sure bro gud luck. I worked and trained with a brickie who ran a school (15years experience under from Yip Chee Keung). Dude was as solid as a house, super fit, quick, and powerful asf and 40yo (i was 22 at the time). I was 95kg, very athletic, grew up boxing and playing rugby and I couldn't hold a flame to what this guy could do. Those mantis arms are so strong, fast and move so weird they literally chop through your guard and hammer you they fuckin hurt. They're not trained like that in boxing or mma. This shit comes straight from a shaolin monastery its no joke. Only reason why I didnt keep it up was because I didn't want to do it for hours a day for years just to develop shock power (when the forms start to become useful). I prefer to just hit the bag and keep fit. Its a formidable striking/strengthening system i would've loved to mix it with muay thai and bjj or sambo. Im actually surprised not more people have heard of it I'm just waiting for the day someone mixes it with wrestling and starts using it in the ufc.

seems like you don't agree his part of body is soft but I think his power is real and not a muscle power. Can see on how easy he can bring your head down. the counter attack is very dangerous. mostly he attacks the vital part. About lifting up the balls. Seems like a bit weird since they unconsciously lifting up before the kick come in but it still impressive to take brute force of kick. By the way, how hard and heavy is his body when he use harden?

Barely the first minute and here it is.. .southern mantis really does seem to be the most specialised in the particular type of iron crotch where the genitalia actually retreat into the abdomen... I first saw it years ago in a Chris Crudeli video, he went around searching for iron crotch, not the fake sort where u tuck ur bum so the foot actually contacts the bum only, and eventually found it in southern mantis
