In my opinion, he's really one of the best players in the world. Everything he plays makes me feel like I know nothing about my instrument. He just connects with it in a special way and he's just special to watch and listen to. Followed for years and suddenly realized it fairly recently!

Thumbs up for Chris Buck, because on the other KZbinrs you give the pedal, sound just like another klon like… here we have something more… he must be your demonstrator .

It's because Chris isn't a KZbinr. First and foremost he's a serious professional musician that's been in 2 successful bands and the latest band Cardinal Black is going to be huge.. who just happens to have a KZbin channel in his spare time. That's the difference. KZbinr to actual Band musicians. No contest

This last 2 years ive gone through a whole bunch of mid to high end pedals. Theres some great jems like the greer stuff, a few other staples. But nothing has come close to Origin Effects for me. Not only are they built to a superior standard then even thorpy fx, they consistently never sound like pedals. I have the dcx, deluxe 61 and RD, sold off every other drive ive collected.

Out of curiosity, I'd love to know how the Adaptive Circuitry behaves when the pedal is not first in line. I know that Fuzz Face style pedals clean up due to their direct interaction with the impedance of the pickups, and lose their ability to clean up when a buffer or (buffering) pedal is placed before them. I'd assume that there is a similar phenomenon with Origin's Adapt switch?

I really like the adaptive control and the dry signal idea. I may have to trade my current “Klon” style pedal in.
@waynegram8907

The Klon Drive control is a Dual Stack Pot which is the Dry Control stacked dual with the Drive Control. When turning up the drive control the Klon Mid Bump gets boosted and wider but the overdrive gets driven. There must be a way to turn the klon drive control to boost the Klon Mid Bump but keep it Clean Glassy with No overdrive?

That Les Paul tone was fantastic. It was very Allman Brothers. Also, that’s really cool that it was Chris’s Centaur that y’all used to develop the Halcyon Gold! I would have let y’all borrow mine for a free HG! :) Question about the Dry knob. Can it be “bypassed” so that the pedal simply acts like a Centaur automatically as you turn up the Gain knob?
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK 11 ай бұрын
The Halcyon Gold completely disconnects the Centaur drive and dry sounds. So you can't hit a button or make the DRIVE control operate both features. To match the Halcyon and Centaur, you'll need to balance between the two controls.

@@OriginEffectsUK Ah. Bummer for those of us who love the Klon sound as-is, but would LOVE the Adaptive circuitry! Are there any knob position guidelines in the manual for emulating the normal Drive/Dry relationship of a Klon circuit?
@gilguajardo7808
@gilguajardo7808 11 ай бұрын
Or can one simply do a mirror image with the 2 knobs, e.g., Dry max when Drive is zero, both at noon, Dry at zero when Drive is max, etc?
@gilguajardo7808
@gilguajardo7808 11 ай бұрын
Just looked at the sample settings in the manual! It looks like the mirror-image setting idea on Drive/Dry is the way for a traditional Klon Centaur response! Nice!
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK 11 ай бұрын
@@gilguajardo7808 The original essentially dials out dry signal as you turn the drive clockwise. So With higher drive settings, use less dry. With lower drive settings, higher dry.

I know anything goes, but have you guys tried this going into a RevivalDrive? Or after a RD? I generally use the RD for my drive sounds. Sometimes I have an EP boost in front of it but usually not. HAve you guys tried stacking, or is this meant be used on its own? Thanks! Sounds awesome, but that's Chris Buck playing, so yeah! lol

Our 'Video Manual" is recorded with the pedal going into a RevivalDRIVE for demonstration. So that's worth checking out. The Halcyon Gold Overdrive is meant to be used like any overdrive pedal. Just with some clever added features.

Nice work, all! However, as great a guitarist as Mr. Chris Buck is, there was so much "dead" air on this demo, and time wasted on barely audible passages that it sounded like an audition for Mr. Buck's obvious guitar mastery rather than a Demo of the Overdrive pedal. I got so bored very quickly, and at multiple places that I left before the intermission. Thanks anyway. Very glad others appreciate him more than me.

How on earth does Origin Effects justify $300 for another Klon clone? Ridiculous considering all the other options.
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK 11 ай бұрын
Our prices simply reflect the cost of manufacture. Complex circuits + Manufactured and designed in the UK (That includes PCB work) + High quality components, parts and hardware. It's ultimately a boring answer.
@daniels.2978
@daniels.2978 11 ай бұрын
@@OriginEffectsUK explain then how American companies like Ehx, Walrus, jhs, earthquake,r, etc can sell pedals under the $200 price range yet they are made in the USA. USA labor is just as expensive as UK. A Klon circuit is not complex or expensive to produce.
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK 11 ай бұрын
@@daniels.2978 Our circuit isn't a simple clone of a KLON. It's essentially re-engineered from the ground up to support the Adaptive Circuitry functions. An ability that adds a lot of additional circuitry requirements and complexity. With a parts count that matches that additional complexity. All those brands make excellent products and it's great other brands are able to provide their products at those price points.
@PickledDill907
@PickledDill907 11 ай бұрын
@@daniels.2978 EHX don't make many pedals in the US anymore. They're apparently assembled in the US but the enclosures and PCBs are farmed out to Asia. Walrus, JHS, Earthquaker are all bigger companies and produce much simpler pedals. UK manufacturing is often more expensive than US manufacturing as the operations tend to be smaller (and thus so are suppliers), the living/material/running costs tend to be higher and taxes are much higher. They also then have to ship their pedals internationally to serve the American market. Origin are a small operation, making complex things, in an expensive play/way. So they cost a lot.
