"When we started rehearsing the songs, I had pulled out "Hunger Strike" and I had this feeling it was just kind of gonna be filler, it didn't feel like a real song. Eddie was sitting there kind of waiting for a (Mookie Blaylock) rehearsal and I was singing parts, and he kind of humbly-but with some balls-walked up to the mic and started singing the low parts for me because he saw it was kind of hard. We got through a couple choruses of him doing that and suddenly the light bulb came on in my head, this guy's voice is amazing for these low parts. History wrote itself after that, that became the single." - Chris Cornell

It never will... Rock is dead and shitty music is taking over. I guess that's what people thought about Grunge when it took over Hair Metal. The problem is that we always have to find fads and focus on those fads so much that we cause artists to overdose and commit suicide solely because they are too stressed by the situation. I mean, maybe in the future some form of rock will be prevalent again, but sadly we can never go back to this generation. I never saw Nirvana, Alice in Chains, or Soundgarden and I feel like although I'm not the biggest Pearl Jam fan, I should see them and Eddie before something else happens, god forbid.

"It was during that same week that I was up there [In Seattle rehearsing with Pearl Jam]. Day four maybe, or day five, they did a Temple [of the Dog] rehearsal after our afternoon rehearsal. I got to watch these songs, and watch how Chris [Cornell] was working, and watch Matt [Cameron] play drums. It got to "Hunger Strike" - I was sitting in the corner, putting duct tape on a little African drum. About two-thirds of the way through, he was having to cut off the one line, and start the other. I'm not now, and certainly wasn't then, self-assured or cocky, but I could hear what he was trying to do, so I walked up to the mic - which I'm really surprised I did - and sang the other part, "Going hungry, going hungry." The next time I was up, he asked if I'd record it - so it was just me and Chris in the same studio that we made [1991's] Ten record. I really like hearing that song. I feel like I could be real proud of it - because one, I didn't write it, and two, it was such a nice way to be ushered onto vinyl for the first time. I'm indebted to Chris time eternal for being invited onto that track. That was the first time I heard myself on a real record. It could be one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever been on - or the most meaningful." - Eddie Vedder

No, Chris looked over because it was a "get ready to sing the chorus again" look check,,, Eddie was playing exact rythym guitar that goes with the lead guitar melody that chris is playing,, The look of frustration I believe was possibly a little insecurity because at that time 1992 ,, Both vocalists I believe where far more comfortable having their band mates playing the guitar, , Therefore they are more (Chris at least) comfortable singing with the band, and not playing and singing at the same time,,, also un rehearsed, It's 25 years later today,, wow, and by now Chris is very comfortable playing and singing together (acoustic Cornell ) And after 25 years they are no longer new amateur Pro's, , They are Now Veteran Professionals, ,,, Until Chris checked out not long ago,, dang it Chris,,,, THIS IS MY OPINION, NOT TO START ANY ARGUING

It was a learning process for all.. artists, crew, Local crew, crowd and so on and so forth.. the raw intensity is what made them’ early Lolla years so freakin special and amazing thanks to Perry and that other partner dude ;)

I was there for this. Can’t believe that this video exists. I told the story of how it happened for years to friends. I was in total disbelief when I stumbled upon this video. Hearing the first few notes from the lawn, realizing what was happening, running to the side stage as quick as I could. It was as unforgettable as you would imagine, even in the moment.

I would do quite literally anything to have witnessed this. No one can take me to a place more special than where Chris Cornell’s voice and music takes me. I got to see Vedder two months ago in concert and the tribute he did for Cornell was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life. The whole crowd was singing and crying together and the experience was so much more than just a tribute🎸🤟🏼

Great song and iconic jacket from Ed! Had one like it myself and long hair at the time. PJ my favourite rock band of time. Never really got into Chris's bands but appreciate his talent of course. RIP.

They harmonize so perfectly, this moment stands in time as a reminder of what we will always remember as singers who are a tough act to follow between two of the most iconic singers in history! Gone but the music lives on forever 🔥

when I saw the hands going up in the crowd I expected to see people holding up their phones recording, then I realized they were putting up horns and I smiled. then realized this was in 92 before everyone and their grandmom had a cellular device lol, simpler times, good shit

Those were the best times. You weren't there so you can show your friends and brag to classmates that you were there. You were there for yourself. You were present and in the moment

Lollapalooza 92' seems like yesterday, I was 18 years old that summer and nothing was impossible back then?! May sound cliche but thanks to these guys and the rest of the awesome musicians that seem to pop up all at once and made music real again, and held onto it never stopping or going away and keeping real music alive, these so many years later?! R.I.P Chris Cornell you were and always will be the one of the greatest voices of a generation! Gen X / the "slacker" generation slacking that changed the world in myriad ways

I always come back to this video. These are true rock stars, side stage, after their sets, for the fans. To be lucky enough to have managed to catch this, you can see people flooding in hearing it across the festival

OMG! Just stumbled upon this, so happy that this was caught on video. I ❤️ Chris and his musical talent. He is missed so much. I was traveling for work the week he passed. I was in Utah, most of my friends are on the East coast. I woke up to numerous messages consoling me of my loss! I wasn't sure what was going on until I checked the internet, I thought a family member died. But it was my favorite rock vocalist ever!
