Terrific video. Now I understand a little more about advantages of "feathering" my old Lyman with a Gray Marine 620 flathead 4. (I've got 2 extras, if anyone is looking.) Those plates are expensive, yikes!

Good that you have extras, you might need the parts at some point. I'm being gifted and extra complete FF 283 and transmission in a couple of weeks so spare parts will be in the boat shed.

I've wondered since I was a little kid how the manual trannies worked. It's great now to know in detail. Cool episode. Personally I never liked the hydraulic ones, being either in gear or out, and not being able to feather the transmission which is half of what perfect smooth docking is all about :)

I'm looking forward to using it with some kind of unique shifter handle.

Shame that the plates are NLA on the Pragon's. Hope it gives you years of service on Miss Chippewa.

Just remember, when he’s cocky you just need to chuck him in and cut that WOOD DOWN

He may be cocky, but he's earned it.

Does anyone know where the drain plugs are for a Paragon 2.5 to one reduction box?I have had it in my boat for 30 years and have changed the oil by sucking it out the dip stick but have always felt I wasn’t getting it all.The manual doesn’t say where the plugs are or how much to put in .Also which oil should be used as f type isn’t around any more. It’s a great, reliable old thing and I want to keep it going .The main problem with it is the need to hire a very small monkey to get under it,but that’s not the trannys fault😳😁

I have a Paragon P45 L and the drain plug is at the back under the lowest point, a square nut. Oil recommended these days is Dexron 3.
