It was weird to rewatch. It absolutely did something interesting, but Jim Carey acting annoying is genuinly annoying enough to make it hard to watch. I don't hate Jim Carey, but I feel like Chris Farley would have been so perfect for this. Chris being annoying is funny, Jim being annoying is annoying.

It really is 1 of those films that flows from start to finish, never boring, insanely fun from title-card to the credits. I can see why people who expected a silly Jim Carrey comedy may've been somewhat subverted/disappointed by what the film ultimately was, but I personally love it for what it is. I honestly think w/Farley in the role, it wouldn't have that nuanced creepy-weirdness that Jim Carrey seems to understand & thrive in (especially modern-day JC), & along w/Ben Stiller & Judd Apatow, they added a-lot of substance, giving it a really dark horror-comedy vibe that made it unique & interesting, standing out from every other comedy of that era.

It was all about expectations... Coming off of Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, Jim Carrey was a certain thing in my little kid mind. This movie not only did not fit, it clashed hard with that image. I saw it in the theaters and was so disappointed. As an adult who recognizes it for what it actually is, (a dark comedy/stalker horror film) I love it.

Also saying he “couldn’t deliver that properly”… He died before getting a chance… I actually can clearly picture in my mind Farley doing a serious darker role and nailing it, similar to adam sandler managed(although i think Farley could have been a lot better even). He did play a type cast goofy role, but he also was able to display a lot of emotion better than Adam Sandler in my opinion.

The good thing about Jim's movies is that I completely understand them from the get go. The Cable Guy, when it came out, instantly got me. I watched this movie countless times, because I always understood exactly what kind of humour Jim was performing in such movie. The jokes, the lines, all. And having Matt Broderick for the "serious" role as Steven is just perfect. You end up knowing him much more as an abusive, selfish guy that "kinda" deserves all those things Chip Douglas throws at him. In the end, The Cable Guy is, in my humble opinion, the perfect dark comedy flick.

I tried rewatching this with a friend who never saw it. That first half is rough, but I had to explain that the movie would take a hard turn where the obnoxious stuff would make more sense in that context. In other words, it can be hard to watch when you think the movie wants you to like this guy who won't shut up. That turn halfway through is so genius.

I love this movie so much. It’s cool to learn about how this movie was one of the final nails in the coffin for grunge. I love Jerry Cantrell, watching the music video for leave me alone was what prompted me to rewatch the movie recently. As a child I was a little thrown off being used to his earlier work. In my personal opinion The Cable Guy is one of the most underrated comedy movies ever. Not only was it a good comedy but it effortlessly dips into other movie genres giving it a totally unique feel. Ben Stiller did a fine job directing on other projects but to me this feels like it was and should have been his magnum opus. The whole movie is an insane roller-coaster ride of comedy & drama that builds up to a perfect crescendo of entertainment with the Brother Sweet Brother verdict. Then having an almost fairy tale comedic ending with everyone rediscovering the magic of reading books. Genius.

I started working as a cable service technician in 2015 it is really funny how many rules were specifically made due to this movies influence. Like if a customer invites you to come hang out at their house after work your not allowed to do that or there are a series of hoops you have to jump through first for example.

it's insane to hear the history of this movie and thinking about who was actually involved in it. i watched it around when it came out, i was about 11-12. i distinctly remember being disappointed in it somewhat because i was expecting, and it was advertised as, another goofy Jim Carrey flick and as any kid that age, at that time, i loved those movies. However i ended up watching it a ton of times at home over the next few years since we had illegal cable and i saw it a ton on PPV and HBO. I developed a love and taste for the Cable Guy, to the point that it still crosses my mind occasionally to this day, and it gave seed to my love for Medieval Times (i didnt know this place existed before the movie). Jim's performance definitely opened my eyes to him as something beyond slapstick comedian, Truman Show to this day is one of my favorite movies of all time. At the time i had no idea who Ben Stiller or Judd Apatow was, but as the years went on i became a big fan of their movies, calling some of them my all time faves. I even love Leslie Mann but never realized she was in this movie (i havent seen in forever and i never liked her character in Cable Guy). I had no idea either of them was involved in this movie and it blows my mind seeing my comedic evolution over the decades being guided by a lot of the same people throughout the years who all knew and loved each other. it's a warm feeling and i feel connected to them somewhat now. maybe i should hook them up with some free cable. PS, I hated Black Sheep, back then and today.

Ok. I went to see this in theaters. I was a huge Jim Carrey fan. BOTTOM LINE: They totally marketed this film wrong. They made it seem like Jim's previous hits. If they had of marketed correctly...it would have been a hit. I remember watching it and realizing that it was not as it was portrayed beforehand. Of course we were initially disappointed because it wasn't what we were told. It they had of set the viewers expectations correctly, it would have been more successful. Because it's a good movie. Just watched it again a couple weeks ago. It was not as advertised which created disappointment.

I remember seeing this in the theater when it first released. Me and my buddy laughed and howled like idiots thru whole movie. Admittedly we were pretty much the only among the other folks in the theater that were carrying on like this. It seemed so odd to me then and STILL does to this day that The Cable Guy is considered one of Jim Careys "worst performances"!?! I think this was at the time(and still basicly is...) Careys best comedic tone. Its almost as if the audience at the time was disappointed and confused that Jim Carey didnt at any point resort to bending over to make his ass-speak and make bad puns!? Even to this day, I still find situations to throw in one of the many quoteable lines from this classic.

Everyone hated it. Critics and fans. It’s a garbage movie that idiots either like out of poor taste or like to be hipsters and rediscover garbage like Reign of Fire to be edgy. Pacing is bad and Carrey wasn’t a good fit for the role and the way he played it was pure narcissism.

Oh yeah this was a masterpiece...i see why it tanked at the box office....they were looking for ace ventura....but i cant believe there s edited parts on the dvd..or blue ray!! I must see them all....i wish there was blooper outakes...im sure they were gold. Thank you for this video
