Friggin' awesome! The 8 series is breathtaking in person, if you're a fan.

Thanks Brad for your additional comments. You've got to see this 850 in person to appreciate it. It truly looks and feels better than the factory. The detail that went into this, with direct support from the BMW dealer, is undeniable. Most cars that are lowered do run the risk of scraping the front bottom so there is no arguing that and extra care is very much advised when driving it. But the car looks damn nice with the lowered suspension, much nicer than any 850 still on the road or in a museum/collection. The transmission is an original 850 Manual 6 speed with the corresponding BMW clutch. I doubt that it is any different than the CSi (I do not know) but, for the few minutes I sat in the car and pressed the pedal, I did not feel it to be too heavy. Anyway, I appreciate your commitment to keeping everything original including the very sluggish tranny but please take it from me that this is not a garden variety, go-fast or gaudily modded car. It is really perfect and a huge homage to the 8-series! :)

one of the coolest cars from the early 90s, BMW at its best at that time. i know its a matter of taste, but i didn't particularly liked the sound of the exhaust, i think the original one sounds better imo. but nevertheless, as i said, one of the coolest cars of its age :)

unless you ported and polished the heads like I did, that exhaust isn't "freeing up the engine." To let the engine breath you have to do the ENTIRE induction system. I'm not selling anything. Just been there done that, and here to tell you, "the price of cool aint cheap." PS. Bilstein can still custom valve shocks which was VERY necessary for my E31's.

The Clarion in dash unit unfortunately 86'd the BMW on-board diagnostic computer unit....they should have used a single din with swing out screen. Spice interior leather looks great as does the placement of the rear subwoofer in the trunk pass-thru.

Well, he's right the '93 did have a "funky" automatic. It was the old four speed. If they'd sprung for a decent 850Ci they'd have gotten the '96 or '97 with the Steptronic which is faster than the six speeds. Also, I've seen cleaner installs than that system. It's not even flush with the panel. Ick.
@newerapr41477 жыл бұрын
The idea behind all Clarion Builds restorations is finding well-worn versions of iconic classics and restoring them to insanely high standards and then tastefully modifying them. This 850 is very much in-line with their NSX and 2002 builds and is an excellent example of how to make what was a worn out automatic e31a far more exciting representation of what an e31 could be.
@theadvocate37157 жыл бұрын
I have seen this Clarion 850 in person and it is an AMAZING build! These cars are not easy to find and most are in desperate shape. The car they picked was a decent low miles car and, in this case, I think they picked the right car especially as they had intended to convert it to a 6-speed. The craftsmanship and detail-work on this car is top-notch and done through BMW's Certified facilities in SoCal. The car literally looks better than new! And, the 6-speed also adds a great deal of driver involvement which is half the fun of driving a car if not more so you cannot fault this "improvement". I recommend you visit Clarion's website for the Builds at clarionbuilds.com and see the detail they went through and don't knock off this amazing build without knowing the specifics! BTW, if you drive a German car, you don't need cup holders! haha

@techreviewsau7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree Mladen... I have a 1995 840Ci. All original except for the BMW Business CD43 radio which is approved spec for this BMW and a direct fit. I commented the same about value going down on the Clarion Build 850i on one of their videos of this car and got a lambasting from some other guys... who don't have one. They destroyed the centre console panel and the medical kit holder place between the rear seats, and used the only suitable "cup holder" place behind the gear stick to put in something for the audio system! What a waste. A lot of people don't seem to realise (I'm Aussie - so that's the correct spelling here) that when the 840Ci V8 came out in 1994, it had nearly as much horsepower as the V12! And the V12's are around 200 kg's heavier too. To my knowledge, only 56 Right-Hand Drive 840's had a manual transmission. Not sure how many LHD's had manuals, but I know the USA did NOT get them except for the 850CSi.

I have seen this Clarion 850 in person and it is an AMAZING build! Not only everything was sourced through BMW but any modified piece or panel has been duplicate-ordered just in case someone prefers to restore it back to stock one day. Also, the craftsmanship is top-notch and done through BMW's Certified facilities. The car literally looks better than new! The 6-speed also adds a great deal of driver involvement which is half the fun of driving a car if not more. Read my comments to Brad E. You might learn a thing or two ... :)
@techreviewsau7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've read your comments... You might be surprised to learn that when you "modify" by lowering the vehicle, you have a much higher risk of scraping and damaging the front lower lip of the vehicle. Also, by removing the MID computer you don't get alerted when something critical has failed on the vehicle (note that Clarion has removed it - or has certainly NOT shown us where they relocated it!). Also, I don't know about the particular manual transmission they put in the car, but in the 850 CSi the clutch is actually damn HEAVY to depress and gives your leg a serious workout! I'd favour the auto transmission any day, but that's just me. Any idea how much the original stock 850 at the BMW Museum in Germany is worth? A lot more than this project. PEACE The Advocate. :-)
@wmurray0034 жыл бұрын
Something tells me the value of this car went up with these modifications. Just because you add something doesn't mean it has to lose value. It's all about WHAT you're adding and HOW you're executing the addition.
