Besides the Autobahn and the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, how many places are there where you have the option of driving over 100 mph? How many speeding tickets and reckless driving charges are you willing to rack up? Here in the US, the highest speed limit is 85 mph (the Texas Highway 130 toll road), and it has been over 20 years since the Montanabahn ended. Just about any car you see on the road today has enough horsepower to go 85 mph, even an old Buick, an old minivan, or a low-end Kia. The Malaise Era Chevettes that shook at speeds over 55 mph, the Brougham land yachts with the big V8 engines that put out only 120 hp, and the Yugos with the 20-second 0-60 times are long gone. Back in 1991, there was still a national 65 mph speed limit and thus even less reason to drive over 100 mph. Any car other than the very slowest Malaise Era beaters had the horsepower for 65 mph. Oh, and if you still wanted a fast and sporty car back in 1991, there were much cheaper choices available than the BMW 850i available. There were Firebirds, Trans Ams, Camaros, Mustangs, Acuras, Lexuses, Supras, Nissan Z-cars, and Honda Preludes. All of these cars were not only cheaper to buy but to maintain as well.

It was a great car and it performed well but... every year something would break. The old 90's electronics, and this thing was packed full of them, lead to sensor after sensor after sensor needing to be changed. Was never helped by the fact that it had 2 of everything. But like you said about it being a highway cruiser, I have never had a more comfortable ride on the highway. I remember the first time I saw a BMW 840. At the time, no one put 4-piston calipers on their cars unless you were Porsche or Ferrari. This car had them. Ultimately the engine was done in by the heads. There was no way to get the engine to rev due to poor exhaust port configuration. The exhaust ports on every cylinder are pinched by a cooling jacket and then a quick 90-degree bend. Forced induction helps, assuming you can integrate it with the drive-by-wire throttle. There was an M8 prototype produced (one) that had completely redesigned heads with DOHC and mild headers, but no parts or design data are available. Given the problems with airflow, the rest of the design decisions were made with an eye toward tall gearing and 140 mph cruising on the autobahn rather than 0-60 times. I had one for about six years and enjoyed playing around with it, but it's really not a car for American driving unless you have to take I-80 across Nevada at least once a week.

@SplatoonTwo I respectfully disagree. Their music is technical and exotic. Many songs nowadays sound uncannily similar to one another. Dream Theater challenges the preconceived notions of what music should be, and pushes the boundaries in a way that flows with effortless complexity. Their mastery over their craft allows a story to be told without the use of lyrics, and when lyrics are added, a deep and fundamental message is conveyed that can resonate with most people. I would like to understand your reasoning behind your opinion, I'm sure you have a good reason not to like them.
