I feel pretty bad for Chris and all the guys that put so much effort into these videos.. and now those vids are simply ruined because not everyone (including me) can enjoy the full experience. :( Anyway... I neither vote up nor down... I like to remain neutral.

Instead of being upset you can't pull enough views to get the adsense you desire, why don't you start making better stuff instead of just bait and switching people to subscribe to Drive +?
@steelbluesleepR10 жыл бұрын
Because that isn't how it worked with drive. They had a contract with Google to make content for X dollars and Google would get all of the advertising dollars. That deal ended in January, leaving them with no budget. + is the only way they can continue making films. $4 a month is a pitiful thing to bitch about.
@MrAeroHD10 жыл бұрын
Jayson Carey 4/month is a low number, but compare that with Netflix. I pay 7.99 a month for netflix and I can get WAY more content there vs 4+tax for Drive +. And that's not even the point. Offer the WHOLE show on Drive +, not a "teaser" on normal drive to try and bait people into buying the subscription. And I'm a partner too. I know how little you get paid. BUT, if they're running ads on normal drive they're still gaining revenue whether that be from Google contract or not.
@Mr2sauce10 жыл бұрын
***** Netflix is mostly "used" content. It's pretty hard to compare with it on a value basis

Corey Z Not really. I find new shows to watch on Netflix all the time. I still don't think the money is the issue, it's moreso the bait and switch thing

Well done Chris! you will no doubt enjoy it ... For those too young or just not well informed: BMW E30 M3 Prodrive Gr.A rallye car was the last rear wheel drive to win a WRC event against 4-wheel drive competitors. The Gr.A track version is the most successful touring racecar ever winning +50 national and international Motorsport Championships from 1987 through 1992. Most reknown 24h Nurburgring (3 times), 24h Spa (3 times), DTM (2 times). There are still today BMW E30 M3 winning in Hillclimbing, rallye and track events. The thrill of driving it to the limit is inmense. Developing the skills required to do so properly is a challenge which becames addictive. Take all the technological driver control interference out such as 4-wheel drive, 4-wheel steering, electronic differentials, electromagnetic shocks, variable ratio steering, etc ... and what you are left with is pure sensory overload. Carbon fiber airbox makes for an epic soundtrack. Forgot to mention I own a Gr.A replica I race ....

As of writing this, the full length video on Drive+ has just about 7k views. So that means that 7k people have kept their subscription. So that's (7,000 * $4) = $28,000 dollars this month. Sounds like they may be onto something to me. Although I bet it's an expensive thing to produce all these films. I'll continue to support the guys at Drive, it's really quality work, and that costs money.

/DRIVE if the figures mentioned add up and when the NBC dollars start rolling on a regular basis is there any chance of setting aside a little of the proceeds to subsidise occasional full length uploads here instead of teasers that completely isolate and annoy your fanbase, ie those who subscribed and helped raise the channel's high profile and on whose viewing figures and 'likes' NBC probably based their offer of air time?
@autotalon10 жыл бұрын
altern8ive I agree with this as well. @velikibosanac10 жыл бұрын
To start off, I must give credit where it's needed: Chris, you are doing a great job! Love the show and I follow it on the (your) schedule ;) Since I am a e30 driver, I was intrigued by the clip and my thoughts are that you REALLY need to do a followup episode on the /DRIVE channel about the car, the build, the obstacles you had to overcome and the testing/fine-tuning. Now I see that a lot of the viewers are voting this vide down and unsubscribing...and now I see that you are creating a pay-channel. That's all fine and well (I have a degree in economics-management, and I understand the need for income), but you are cutting out a huge part of your market with this move. Countries without US broadcast will leave your show and find a new channel to fulfill their needs, thereby reducing your subscriptions and views rates on /DRIVE...and sincerely I would hate for that to happen. Think outside the box, you have other ways to earn money that are more profitable then a pay-channel that is restricted to the US. An increase in views on the channel by a marketing push on social media networks - for example using the shows on the channel to start contests and giveaways that require people to follow several episodes in a row to be able to win some prizes (key-chains, t-shirts, pens, hats/caps, etc.), and make it worldwide so that people from other continents can compete and then announce the winners on the social media so that everyone can see them (the cost of sending a key-chain or some other misc. advertising material around the globe in a "bigger" letter is negligible to the increase in views). The ideas that can help the company make profits without resorting to limitations of audiences and overall loss are endless, and I think you should try out different marketing approaches before taking such radical measures. ... Anyway, I hope you figure it out, I really do, and it's not a bad idea to ask the community for opinions before making decisions that affect them. But as for me, I will continue to follow you faithfully for as long as it is possible ;) Best of wishes Kenan PS. Sorry for any grammar issues, I do speak a few languages, but I am not native to English :)
@toconnx10 жыл бұрын
Well said, I also support these guys generating more income and I think a lot of viewers fail to realize how much time and money go into creating these videos. We all appreciate the quality, but once you step back and realize that these guys have to pay for professional equipment, behind-the-camera staff members, studio time, travel costs to filming locations, etc... the cost of quality adds up quickly. When you take into account that most of their videos have less than 1million views, you start to wonder how they manage to break even... so while I support them finding ways to increase their revenues, I think they've gone about it all wrong. I think the "correct" way to do this is to continue offering the same Drive programming for free, just as always, but to add additional footage and bonus material as Drive+ content. It seems to me that they've started charging money for the same old Drive programming, and now what I'm offered for free is a teaser / advertisement. It's like the classic case of the drug dealer getting his customers hooked on the product for free, then starting to charge. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and it appears many members of the community agree, even if they're immature in expressing it. As long as they're going to serve their subscribers a hot slap across the face, I'm not going to give them my money.

Nice driving. But shows as you say that you are not a natural rally driver (those start driving on the gravel roads in the woods at the age of 12-13). You use the steering too much for turning where as rally drivers use the gas and tail slides as much, if not more, to turn the car. But you definitely are a talented person to master so many different types of driving and racing. Always nice to see your videos.

I cant give you my 4 dollars to watch your show since you havent made that option available in Sweden yet. So this is either: a) Your way of getting rid of your subscribers outside of the US. b) Your way of showing that you dont care about your viewers outside of the US. c) Just a piss poor way of making money that probably will fail. Come on guys.. It's such a turn off, I think I'll have to watch something else on KZbin while I take a dump from now on.
@drive10 жыл бұрын
KennethLarsson We absolutely don't want to "get rid" of subscribers outside the US. What would be the point of that? We didn't expect or predict this many problems with YT+, that's all. Every fan is created equal and has equal value. We will make it right, that's why our robot is awake right now.
@sebastianfey868710 жыл бұрын
/DRIVE Sounds a bit strange to me personally that you did not expect these problems... I dont think i can remember ONE single site/venture/company where paid! media content was available globally in a short matter of time ( 1-2 weeks... Its the internet you know, things are fast....) Even google struggled for a while with their play music all inclusive jazz and its no where near completed yet. So either, you as DRIVE network started this yt+ project without thinking about it, or you took the risk of scaring away your numerous non-us viewers. Since the latter option would make no sense to any businessman it seems to me like you were loured into this yt+ idea for money fame and the lot without thinking.. :( its a shame.

I feel bad for Chris as for the Drive+ debate I would say that people feel robbed with the less content over the regular channel. What I would have done is keep this format with 10 minutes and make it like 30-50 minutes on the Drive+ Channel because then it feels like you are getting more for your money. It show's that you guys have no marketing sense. Also add more solutions to get more money like Patreon or similar. I get it, you need more money to keep the great content flowing regularly and you have to feed your families but this is not a good solution so please listen. People will always find ways to bypass the payment like Piracy or they will find the videos on other sites for free.

Just as a heads up guys. Economics 101. People either want a lot of media dirt cheap like netflix. Or something tangible for a price. Merchandising is slower but would get you the revenue needed to survive. That also might be a viable option. Get it made for cheap somewhere or have the facilities to produce said merchandise for cheap and sell well over cost.

The final nail in the coffin. Drive can't honestly expect people to want to pay after providing such quality content for free. I understand the need to keep the doors open, but the way they moved to drive + abruptly was a case of very bad timing. there is no way this business model will prosper with the current public backlash. Which is such a hummer because these have been such a good entertaining series in every program drive provided. I wish matt, leo, Chris and everyone involved the best.
