Chris Hayes: It's easier to argue about what college kids are doing than to confront the human misery and destruction that's happening in the actual conflict which is, of course, the source of these protests.

Chris Hayes thank you. I sobbed listening to this. Thank you for speaking the truth that history will show. Politicians think if they lie, the truth will not be told, but history will tell the truth about genocide in Gaza and abuse by authorities and police on our own campuses. This is the first sane coverage I've heard on the issue. 'How' tens of thousands of people choose protest is not as important as 'why' tens of thousands of people are choosing to protest. Basic exclusionary screens against companies or individual of countries that commit human rights abuses are a common implementation of portfolio guidelines in this decade. You cannot buy Russian securities. Individuals linked to Russia were forced to sell their stakes in businesses. It doesn't matter if Russia claims that they are battling an anti-Semitic authoritarian regime. What matters are the ruined cities, indiscriminate attacks on civilians, displacement of the local populace, and mass graves. I personally think schools, hospital, and religious organizations probably shouldn't hold ownership in companies that generate their revenues from weapons. I thought that was common sense, and I am a bit shocked to see that these endowments were not already divested from those firms. ALL Israeli businesses is a different matter. I think the documented large flows into investments like Lockeed Martin in November is more concerning and morally reprehensible than schools having equity in SodaStream.

I've noticed a lot of the pro-Israel students don't realize that feeling uncomfortable because your beliefs have been challenged is not the same as being threatened. It's good to feel uncomfortable and college is the best time to feel uncomfortable. Discomfort means you're being exposed to ideas that differ from your own and, hopefully, you're learning.
@epochchange6803
@epochchange6803 21 күн бұрын
That's a fake analogy. Students have the right to have an academic experience that is not disrupted by outside agitators and uninformed protesters. They pay a lot of money for that education. I served in the first Gulf War. At the time, I was pretty thoroughly indoctrinated. It wasn't until I got home and learned the truth that we were not told that I turned my face toward peace. Since then, I have been skeptical of any divisive rhetoric on war whether for or against. The situation in Israel/Palestine is about as divisive as it gets. In my frame, I cannot be 100% on one side or the other, but it obviously must stop. Menachim Begin was able to make peace with Yasser Arafat in the late 1970s, and things were calmed down for a while. Let's try that again. If it has to be revisited every few years, let's commit to doing that.

I’m a Canadian veteran who served in Afghanistan and I completely agree with where you’ve ended up. As soon as I hear divisive rhetoric I immediately question the premise of their arguments, and the source their information. The two state solution was dashed when Yitzhak Rabin was prime minister of Israel. He was assassinated by a member of a right wing faction of a political party that the current Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was a leader of. It occurred after the Oslo accords in which a pathway for peace, was formed, with the recognition of a two state solution.

After he was murdered the Housing Ministry began flooding colonists onto the very territory that was to be the State of Palestine. Think of that. Israel was willing to murder its own Prime Minister to prevent Palestinians, who had recognized Israel, from having a state of their own.

Now Chris Hayes can go home and look at his kids in the eyes and tell them he's taking a step toward trying to stop a genocide. When they grow up, they can decide if they are proud of their father.

Freedom of speech is what makes America unique. You don't have to agree with the speech, but it is American to support that right. Suddenly, politicians and most of the media became censorship fascists.

Good job chris! Finally someone on cable news with the stones to say what’s really going on. Everyone with critical thinking skills and a working moral compass has this take …unfortunately that combination of traits is severely lacking in the cable media and the US government.

I so appreciate this deeper level of insight and understanding into the purpose and value of free speech and non-violent civil disobedience. Modern, truly democratic societies must accept that questioning, protesting and advocating for the oppressed and disadvantaged will only make them stronger and better in the long run.
