In Country music, these days, we are usually offered a Barbie doll or Ken staring out from under the brim of a stetson. Their music is shallow and derivative. Then there is this guy - miles apart from the Nashville light weights. This music is honest and sincere and I'm hooked.

Dad told me about the first time he met this guy. Dad had a metal cage over his left thumb, and Chris asked "What happened?". Dad told him "Steel mill accident. Got my thumb caught in the mill chain when the crane took the steel up. Tried to pull my thumb out as the block went up, shredded it to the first knuckle and tore the rest off. The doctor was able to put it back together". Chris replied "On workman's comp, huh?". Dad told him "No, I went back to work the next shift and did what I could with one hand". Dad said "You should have seen Chris' smile of approval, followed by a handshake". Dad says that's why he knows these songs about self-reliance are from the heart. @westbender 820Randy Neal is the WOBO Monday and Friday dj from 8am to noon. His show is well worth listening to. However, I personally sent him every single Chris Knight song I had and he never played one of them. He no longer programs his own show. Maybe someone slipped one in, but he doesn't play him regularly. Ex WOBO dj Luther Jackson use to play some of Chris's music on Thursday afternoon. After WNKU was sold, local Americana radio has suffered. For a while WOBO's formats incorporated more songs they hadn't previously played but had gotten airplay on WNKU. Then, Chris Kelly left for WAIF and took his mammoth bluegrass collection with him. The quality of their radio shows plummeted. Now you can, at times, hear Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley on WOBO in the morning. That sucks for a station that I listened to regularly! Instead of bitching, I'll just do something about it.

Chris has been composing for 30 years already, released 9 full albums so far, every his song is either a story or contains a message or his personal attitude to a topic. There is no bad song in his repertoire, only the more or less great songs. And yet he has only 4 thousand of subscribers here. And one of them being me, a guy from eastern part of Europe where English is not native language, who discovered him only this year. And the most viewed song is this one with 445 thousands of views. But if you look at how many subscribers has for example Katy Perry (37,9 mil) and how many of views her songs (3,1 mld) then you have to ask like I have asked myself - what (the heck) has happened to the American people? Are you all brainwashed already? No, I believe not, but the media are those who are f...ing with you! This guy is a gem!

@@aaronperrell1580 Hey Aaron, I know you aren't all the same. In fact I know that your society is deeply divided - to those who still have their own brains or common sense and the others. And I am aware of the fact that it is you southerners who are mostly in the first group. Back then when I wrote this comment it was mainly about music even if there is the political undertone as well, but during the year things rapidly changed a lot again and the politics is affecting our lives more than ever. We have a "war" in Europe (well, it was in this location since 2014 thanks to US) and it seems you will have your own war as well in your land. Some very powerful people for sure want that. And that is also the reason why your country falls into delirium and turns into circus as you have said. That is why your society is splitted. Because of subversion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2q3p5x_qr2Diac Btw. it is happening in all the white world and not only in it as you can read in the comments section from our Indian partners. The first time I heard this song was after I was tearing down a 100 year old farm house and I was on the roof taking the old tin off when part of the house collapsed underneath me causing the part of the roof I was on to drop 25ft. The only things that saved me from dying was the old 3010 john deere I had used to get on top of the roof and the piece of tin I was on. The bucket of the john deer had caught part of the roof and kept it from falling on to me. After that happened I got up went to my truck and turned the ac and radio on. This song came on and gave me the will to get back to work and get the rest of the house torn down.

@@TrystonL7 If I saw things in the same myopically-partisan manner that you seem to view them, I guess I'd come back with an assertion that lack of compassion and selfishness are hallmarks of right-wing policies. Of course, that's provocative and counterproductive. As with most political disputes, the answer is found not in either extreme but rather somewhere in the middle but, according to you, the right has all the solutions and anyone who doesn't agree with them can go to hell. That's contrary to the tenets of our democratic republic and until we all learn to listen to the other side instead of just trying to outshout them or, worse yet, intimidate them into silence, we are going to continue to suffer under the tribalist nature of our current situation.
