I had this identical swap, from a T-bird turbo 4cyl into a fox body.... the biggest draw back is the top Mount intercooler that of course is not getting air flow, and gets heat contamination from the exhaust. I swapped it out for a larger front mount intercooler from a Japanese car, and custome built the new piping, added a catch can, an intake manifold blow out valve, methanol injection and the boost turned up to 21 psi.... on 94 octain, stock internals and turbo, but it ran extremely well. The cooler boost with the front mount intercooler, and the meth' injection added almost 80 more horsepower from stock, you can also use 5.0 v8 injectors and the throttle body to help it to run richer, and prevent blown head gaskets. ... I love these engines, so much potential

Great idea good choice of engine I had a stock 1971 with a 2.0 my best quarter mile time was 16.89 that was in 1975 I kinda miss that car there are so many ways to make a four banger go fast now I don't miss the parts breaking I went through transmissions and rear ends but it was fun good luck with yours.

hey great car back in the day i had a 71 pinto i swapped a v8 into that car, 289 with wrap around headers mustang 2 bellhouseing car was fast. but i traded it in for a 69 fire bird. which i have videos of the car( fire bird with tunnel ram) its all Pontiac, but i am still a pinto lover at heart brings back the memories, Subbed. i live here in Washington too...Tim

This is my dream, to swap a Thunderbird motor into my ranger, I just have no idea where to start. Bore out the stock block and beef up the internals? Or swap in the entire motor? Not to mention wiring, fuel, exhaust, maybe I'm just overthinking it and getting overwhelmed.

Must of had a manual trans. The stall wouldn't of been right on a C4 which i believe came in your year. They started putting in C3's later. I have a 1977 Turbo. your air intake would mount better going through the passenger fender well.

THE MUSTANG 2 WAS A 302 WITH AUTOMATIC EVERYTHING THE SHIFTER THE DRIVE LINE ALL FIT PERFECT THE STOCK REAR 4 LUG WAS USED AND I TURNED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS TO MAKE THE PIPES COME TO THE FRONT THAN UNDER THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER BUT THAT WAS TEMPORARY

Did you keep the stock pinto 4 speed? I'm in the process of making a 77 wagon 2.3 powered fairly stock 84 tc engine, trying to figure out what fits and what doesn't case on point -stock bellhousing clutch 4 speed- turbo and manifold -oil pan
