Personally, I love every freaking song this man sings/writes!!! But, this song is up there at the top of the list from my favorite Chris Stapleton song! "You are my sunshine" is a tribute to Willie Nelson and so is the song before it. Willie Nelson is a well known country artist. They chose those songs as a tribute to him. He recorded these songs as well. I wanted them to sing something that would showcase both voices. But these were chosen out of respect for Willie Nelson.

This dude is crazy reacting to the video. Instead of enjoying the performance he’s salty because Chris Stapleton didn’t out sing Jennifer Hudson. What rock has he been under? First, this is the second time Jennifer’s been at a country music event and she had the audience on their feet then when she performed Believe. Second, there aren’t too many singers who are going to out sing Jennifer Hudson and that’s a fact. Stapleton knew that and bailed out on a note when he looked at his guitar player and ended it. We all saw that. It doesn’t mean Stapleton isn’t a great singer, it meant that he recognized he was in over his head vocally. But I enjoyed what both artists brought to the stage. It was a fantastic performance.

The reason why they were singing you are my sunshine it’s because this is the country music awards. The Statler Brothers brought back the song into the modern era, they are extremely country and this song was published in 1939, “You Are My Sunshine”, written by Jimmie Davis, is one of the most popular country songs. It has been adopted by the Louisiana State as the state song. They were giving country music homage to the Statler Brothers.
