Great tribute from these talented, always respectful country artists. Thank you for paying tribute to Merle Artist. This is my personal favorite song of his.

Chris Stapleton is a very rare new Country Singer. He sings Country like Country is supposed to be sung. Him and his wife handle it with care and not many people can sing it like that. They destroy it. But not Chris. He is AWESOME and his lovely wife is great harmonizing with him. Chris sounds like he was raised LISTENING to Merle Haggard ,George Jones and the REAL COUNTRY SINGERS. HE WILL GO FAR.

I am just now finding this music... it is 2022 and I am filled with memories and with the painful joy of having lived through what they are telling us. Yes,... Mickey" Raphael , or Michael Siegfried, bends those notes so that they tare through my soul. Bless them all. Nearly 75 and so grateful to have found them all before I died... Got me to reach out to people I had lost, reconnected with them and Chris and his people are the reason.

The harmonica player has some awesome talent too. I love how Chris gives him a nod to take another verse on his solo. I can imagine that smile on Merle's face watching from on high. And we are all smiling with him.

I got to see Merle Haggard last July at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth. It was the last time of many times I got to see him live. Stapleton was his opening act. I was thankful to Merle for introducing his crowd to this talented songwriter. Great tribute to Hag.

Superb cover, and in the proper chords. Thank you. I've heard a lot of people play it in every chord combo there is. If it isn't in E F#m and b7th, then it doesn't sound right. I'm anal about that!

I have an AirBand receiver again "had one as a kid and loved listening to the birds as the came and went" and I bet I could remaster this song using recorded audio from it where atc or even ATRCC is telling a pilot when he's clear for takeoff lol. that would sound nest to divine, I think. "Flight thirteen eighty-six your clear to take off now" lol.

I like Chris Stapleton, but he’s got to live more. I don’t know.... maybe we always like the first version we ever heard. I remember my Dad coming home from a long day at work. Him walking in the back door with the transistor radio he brought in from the car. It was June or July and the sun was starting to set. He was whistling along to this.

I don’t think he does, I just tried to find it on Apple Music and it doesn’t seem to be recorded. Or if it is, it’s not with all his other stuff. I’m kinda pissed cuz I just spent 30 minutes finding this version lol. The slow tempo version.
