The first time the national anthem meant something to me, more than a song I sang in school, was when I traveled overseas as a very young Air Force wife. There was a lot of hatred for Americans where we were at that time. People threw bricks at our car as we drove on base, we were made fun of on their tv talk shows and the first time we left the base, there was a demonstration in a park and locals had poured red paint all over our flag and were burning it. You have no idea how patriotic you are until you witness something like that. It was really unsettling for me and the next day, when they played the national anthem through the loudspeakers on base, as they did every day, I FELT it. I felt it hard. The pride and the protection for what it symbolizes. I have flashbacks to the moment that I actually got it when I hear our national anthem now. I bawled when I heard Chris sing it, because I'm a huge fan and to me, he symbolizes some of the very best in America and he brought the song the honor and respect it deserves. I hope you have an opportunity to have that moment, the one where something clicks and you just get it. ❤️

Yeah. I'm stirred when I hear the Star Spangled Banner well performed. But I also know the story behind the song, which lends a lot of meaning. I usually don't like a lot of vocal embellishment because the singer is not capturing the emotion of the song, but trying to make a mark on something we are all familiar with. This rendition by Stapleton has set a new marker (IMHO) because of his authenticity and "Americaness." He's moving the music forward to a new era.

It's like comparing apples and oranges. Whitney's version was so bright and bubbly and full of joy, and Chris' version was so down to earth and bluesy, like he was singing it on the back porch of some Mississippi farm house. The only thing the two of them have in common is that they both killed it, AND made it look effortless, which of course is the mark of the true "one percenters."

His first 10 or so years in Nashville, he was a songwriter only, not a recording artist. He had something like 125 cuts from all kinds of singers. Many of them ended up very high, if not at the very top of the charts. Everyone in the Nashville music community knew who he was before the rest of us got to hear his voice.

The colors of staff on the aircraft carrier are designated to each job each person has. That’s what the colors are for. They are functional. This performance was more than just a Super Bowl! The Super Bowl is trivial compared to the patriotism and meaning of the anthem. It’s respect for all our soldiers who fought and died and also those who are currently serving. This is a lot bigger than a game that’s played by citizens who are lucky to be able to play in a country that gives them that freedom.Chris Stapleton obviously feels it in that emotional performance. God bless him, God bless our armed forces and God bless America !

Personally, Whitney's performance will always be the best of the best for me, in a classic sense, Chris definitely put his own spin on it and made it one of the best versions, in the same way Jimmy Hendrix did on his electric guitar, but for a classic flawless vocal performance, it is Whitney all the way.

Please listen to 'The National Anthem as you've never heard it' on here if you don't understand the significance of or know the history of the anthem. It was penned during the battle for our independence from Britain. It chronicles the moment we became our own country and the sacrifices it took for that to happen. They were looking to see if Britain had shot down our flag/defeated us, thru the Smoky dark skies lit only by the glare of the rockets being lobbed at us. Human sacrifices/bodies kept that flag raised, because letting it drop would signal surrender. That's why it's so emotional.

It's because he always sings each sentence in the way he feels it, not in the best way he can. You always get the impression that he can go higher, stronger or harder on a lot of key notes, but he goes on feeling rather than power. That restraint, I think that is the magic. That, or he sold his soul to the devil down in Georgia. Both are valid options.

The national anthem really depicts a battle during the revolutionary war of what a captured American (Francis Scott Key) saw before he laid down for the night and he would be executed at dawn. He was trying to make sure that we were still in the fight.

It’s also depicts him being an anti abolitionist. Key defended the right of people to own slaves and built his case around the idea that anti-slavery activism fomented rebellion among enslaved people and was thus a matter of public safety

For me, I think it depends on the place and performance.. for example, I work at an elementary school and they had to sing it for a “fun run” fundraiser event. I was like wtf are we doing?! Lol but at a special event honoring soldiers it’s a bit more touching sometimes. My family has a lot of soldiers and marines. My husband is in the army. I completely respect others opinions though. I know it’s different for others. It can for sure depend on the person singing too. Like you said his voice or Whitney’s voice, it’s powerful!

@erikainiguez1314 Жыл бұрын
To me the National Anthem as a Marine and as a Mexican, firstly and almost entirely, up until recently...it represents every single sacrifice made by brothers and sisters as well as their families. I'm not proud of the polarity and some of the conniving and pure evils that America is infamous for and of course I'm furious about the racism, big pharma enforcements and my people being hypothetically generalized for all the things when WE are the natives. With ALLLL of that being said and felt, I am still a Marine, I don't regret my time and I am proud to have served. I met some of the truest Marines and military while serving and I lost a few. I want to say more but here it is. To me the National Anthem reverberates every soul lost in battle into my soul and heart. It doesn't represent freedom (not as much as it used to, to me). But I refuse to say it doesn't fill my heart every time I hear it, people lost their lives y'all, when in battle, trust me, you are fighting for the person to left and right of you, behind you etc not for the flag, or sob story. So National Anthem is them speaking to me and the flag waving is those Marines and soldiers waving to me.

I’m fairly certain the colors that they are wearing are for the roles they are assigned and their specific jobs on the deck of an air craft carrier. The colors are important to help distinguish themselves for the pilots landing and all the other hectic things that happen on air craft carriers. I know a lot of people thought they were doing a support of LBGT, but that’s not it.

I just saw this many times and you are first to ask about the colored uniforms on the carrier. The colors are not the rainbow. It represents the specific job or duty the sailor is assigned. Yellow handles deck traffic, Red handles all missiles , ammo, on the aircrafts, Purple handles fuel, Green does maintenance and cargo, Blue handle planes and equipment, White is the inspections and quality control teams, and finally Brown are the air wing plane captains. It was not the navy representing the rainbow flag. All countries with carriers have adopted our task colors. So China isn't laughing at us. They use th same colors.

Those were all someone’s children, or fathers and mothers, husbands or wives, or someone’s friends. Watch an in depth documentary on The war for independence that birthed this anthem. If you don’t feel anything it’s bc you’re not truly in touch with the history of what this country has dealt with. You should watch several videos on the Revolutionary War, all the other wars, 9/11, and especially on the meaning behind the national anthem and when and why it was written.
