I love this series so much. Even though it varies dramatically in subject matter (from the meaning of life to butt sweat), I still get a great sense of perspective from them.

You just exposed the dog to the internet, that means YOU WERE THE HACKER ALL ALONG :OOOOO

The best password is a long password. A program that tries different combinations of letters, signs and numbers doesn't care about the structure of your password. Given enough time it WILL crack it. My onlinebanking password is actually just a 5 digit code. Just 5 numbers, that's it... That's a ludicrously unsafe way to protect an account and I can't change it! My bank won't allow anything else, it HAS to be 5 digits long and it HAS to be numbers only. So now a hacker knows two things: It's 5 signs long and it only contains the numbers from 0 to 9. The result? If a professional tries to hack it my money is gone in ten minutes.

Does the bank at least send you an SMS or email confirmation whenever a sum of money is withdrawn? I'd be checking that shit daily...or finding a new bank.

***** My point exactly. On the other hand, the account is useless without my card. I have TAN generator that gives me codes to authorize actions of the account. But I have no idea how secure that system really is and an attacker could still *access* my account pretty easily. They could figure out what I spend my money on, how much I earn, my adress is in there... And today information like that is kind of worth more than money in itself...

I always thought that a lot of people used the same password for everything. This makes that seem not so smart, though, because then if someone figures it out for one account, they've got it for all.

Love the video, I agree if it's anything sensitive don't put it on a "cloud" service. If the government can get hacked a privately owned cloud service can get hacked.

I heard the most secure password is 4 random dictionary words. For some inspiration, KZbin: word disassociation.
@PublicServiceAnnouncement10 жыл бұрын
This is true. Every added character to a password causes a guessing program to have to account for about 50 possible characters; 50 probabilities. If your password is short, it might have to account for a character not found in common words, but it doesn't care for such a thing; it only cares about being the correct character in the password. It doesn't take more guesswork for a computer upon using different characters, it takes more time to calculate more probabilities.
@markhughes512710 жыл бұрын
Longer the password = better, yes. But it is EVEN BETTER to also make it complex with a large variety of characters! (example: numbers, and symbols) p4rRr0t$ is harder than p4Rr0ts is harder than pARrots is harder than parrots Not just in terms of readability - but also in terms of variety of characters. Heck throw in some triangles ∆ and stuff. Edit: just to clarify, the triangle thing was a joke ;)

my password is the middle name of a girl i used to date. its a pretty weird an unique name so its safe assume it should be ok against any kind of guessing or dictionary attacks.
@Dennisjay910 жыл бұрын
When I was in middle school I was the most l33t hacksor. I did the super special move of asking them what their password was then logging in and changing it as fast as I could. This was the early years of KZbin where no one could figure out how to add videos to your profile on sites like myspace and GAIA so Id just offer to do it for them then boom. People are kind of dumb sometimes. There is even a youtube page that calls up major businesses like pizza hut and target on the phone and just simply askes them for customer info and when they ask why he just says "im from the corporate office" and it works 90% of the time.

no the secret is to make it long and use numbers and symbols, but keep it simple use underscores for spaces and $ or 3 for E. like here is an example Thi$_i$_an_3xampl3. since most hackers use a program that rapidly tries several passwords a second, the longer they are the safer they are, also the "special symbols" that websites require does slow it down since the program first tries numbers and letters. but I only use numbers since websites force you to, its all about the symbols and length man.

I have a generic password for sites I don't care about being hacked. The more sensitive ones have variations of much more complicated passwords that are stored securely in my brain. As of yet, people cannot hack into your brain. Hopefully that doesn't happen in our lifetime.
