お久しぶり Yo! Welcome back!!! I loved your videos 5 years (WTF 5 years???) ago! I quit Japanese (3-4 ish years ago?) it never really worked out for me but I picked up software instead (relatively recently after 2 years of being in the wrong career) and that made me MUCH happier and WAY more fulfilled. Japanese as escapism when you're depressed / in the wrong college major / career is a terrible idea!! I had MUCH bigger things I needed to fix in my life - the "immersion" I was doing was basically just fake garbage - I didn't actually care about the language I was simply just running from problems (so very little stuck). There will eventually be a time and place when I learn it but today is not that day, software is where my heart is at. And of course I won't be starting from zero anyway when I one day do pick Japanese back up, so that's a nice thing to think about.

Been studying Japanese since around a year after you posted your first video. Helped me a lot when I didn't have motivation and didn't even know if the method would work. Since then I passed the N1 2.5 years later and now I just chill reading LNs and VNs, playing games and watching anime in Japanese comfortably. Definitely plateaued but I'm just enjoying media. Thanks for the inspirational videos!

Super cool to hear your current thoughts about japanese in general. I also went hard for a period of time, but I got a job and other stuff in life just really takes priority. I like hearing these balanced takes of still engaging with japanese as part of your life, but it not being the center of one's life. After some time of learning a lot of people either (1) completely give up on everything about JP or (2) go full goblin mode and ajatt for a decade while living a super unbalanced life lmao. Been thinking about making a video for a while addressing this for younger learners, should probably just get off my ass

I've been doing some JP immersion for about a year and half. Though, I've only been only doing three hours a day since I'm about get into a full time job. Do plan on taking on the N1 in the future. Appreciate the motivation! For the record, my name is purely coincidental. Only heard about your channel after the fact. Lol

Glad to see you back chris. Do you mind answering how many total listening hours you had after 1.5 year speaking video vs the 3 year video.
