Yeah, even as an outsider to the process, I've figured for a while that the best chance the series has to continue will happen once the rights fully revert back to Alcon. Alcon definitely seems really proud of the TV show, and their foray into the Telltale Game and Comic feels like they want to keep interest in the IP alive. I don't really expect Amazon to order more seasons/ Expanse movies, but Alcon's CEO has already said that the rights will revert back to them if Amazon doesn't use the IP. At that point, hopefully, Alcon will move forward with looking for a new buyer. And I hope this video, at minimum, gets more views than that other guy's click bait ones about a renewal. I genuinely have no idea why people keep watching that guy.

It took me a few months to realise that other guy is full of shit... he preys on the desire of hardcore fans to get any rumour or snippet of information by claiming to have insider knowledge. It seems believable at first, but then you start to realise he's frequently contradicting things he's said in previous videos and none of his "insider information" is ever correct. Either he's making things up, or he's getting his information from someone who is making things up and he's too dense to realise.

I guess Jeff Bezos decided he wanted a superyacht more than season seven...seriously, though, I completely agree with the "support the creators you enjoy" mantra, except that those creators often end up doing different projects that I don't enjoy as much. That's why I'm so happy to be supporting The Chosen, which is a way to directly crowdfund more seasons of a show that I love.

As an interim thing, I'd still love to have the blu ray set completed for all seasons. I have 1-3, with season 4 never getting a UK release, and I still maintain that the discs still have that quality edge over streaming, even with a solid Internet connection.

I watched this when it came out, maybe 2 seasons, but I got busy with my biz and just stopped watching TV in general. HUGE sci-fy fan. Well, I am here now, because I just watch 6 damn seasons in like 1 week lol maybe 1.5 weeks, but I went to sleep at 4,5,6am more times than I would like to admit. Couldn't stop. I haven't see anything that good (space-wise) since Battlestar Galactica. I finish the last episode tonight, not even knowing that was it. :(

Thank you for your insight and candor. I am so sick of these studios creating these great shows only to cancel them half way through the story. The last three books are the real story. All we can do is try to push these platforms to finish the story. We will not support any new show until they finish the Expanse.

It was definitely bittersweet watching the Roci sail off into the void in that finale episode. But I accepted that the show was over. Personally, I think Amazon was dumb for not making The Expanse it's flagship show for three more seasons. But what's done is done. Farewell to Roci and her crew. Thank you Chris for keeping it real.

after having caught up with the books, i have the feeling that the concepts in the last books are so far out there, that the story needs a different format. Having said that, we got six fantastic seasons with a fulfilling finale. That is rare in ethe industry and especially in this genre. Handling the time jump and diving into a basically new world full of ideas that don't align well with typical audience expectations carries the real risk of failing hard and thus tainting the achievement that were the first six seasons. therefore I believe that if the adaption continues it will have to or should be in different format, maybe as a spinoff or even on different medium (like a video game that puts you in the shoes of different protagonists).

Honestly, If I would want Expanse to have more seasons, its only for it to become more popular. What we have right now is damn decent, and I'd even cut out the laconia arc altogether from it. But IMO what makes the Expance different and perhaps the most important space opera TV show made in this century so far (Shit, in the previous century as well, probably), is it's approach to the setting. No force fields. No space fighters. No gravity plating. No rubber forehead aliens. No bullshit. Respecting the physics and realism, trusting that it can lead to cool scenes, and cheating a wee bit where it can't. That's how sci-fi SHOULD be made. the Expanse should be one of the genre-shaping IPs, not the fairly niche relatively unknown series it is now. ;_;

The ability the bundel seasons 1 - 6 will be the key to atracing a new streaming service for seasons 7 - 9. I think another streaming service should pickup seasons 1 - 6 as part of a deal that would help them decide to bring the show back for season 7 - 9. Stream seasons 1 - 6 a year or two before showing season 7 - 9 I think would bring in a new audience as well as bring over the existing audience and it would give the new streaming service an idea of what audience they will get before they fully commit and showing season 1 - 6 would give them another source of income that would offset the cost of season 7 - 9. I could imagine Apple TV being a good fit for a continuation and I think there is potential for a large untapped audience more so than on Netflix and I think Netflix would be more likely to cancel it if it didn’t do huge numbers.

A streaming service would want to target NEW fans and the old ones, so making obligatory to watch 6 seasons to get the new season is too much to ask, there would need to made seriously considerations in how to recap the story up until that point in any type of future deal, unless Alcon gets a billion dollars from the sky and they can do whatever they want lol.

@@l4nd3r Obviously, a continuation will rely heavily on the existing fanbase signing up to the new streaming service but by offering seasons 1 - 6 on the new service a year or two in advance it should also bring in a new audience. I don't think it would be possible or even a good idea to try and get a new audience to just start watching from season 7 after the major events (protomolecule, ring gates etc.) that happened in season 1 - 6 and I don't think they have to do that because of a strong existing fanbase that continues to grow through strong word of mouth. I saw a poll recently where 1.3 million people voted for the best Sci-Fi show of all time and The Expanse came in number 2 after Firefly and the poll included Star Trek, Star Wars and Stargate shows and Strange Thing, BSG, X-Files, etc. so I don't think we need a totally new audience for a continuation. So to me having season 1 - 6 on the new service is an absolute must for new viewers to watch and existing fanbase to rewatch and to sweeten the deal for the new service provider.

I love the expanse, i bought the audiobooks right after finishing. I recommended to friends and some watch but the ones who don't find it hard to get thru the first 2-3 episodes. Best series ever, and i am looking forward to more content from the expanse.

Valve's policy regarding what percentage they take from sales on Steam has kept me from doing so right off the bat, but even 70% of the money will be better than 0% if it has the slightest chance of generating more content for the Expanse.

@@anon_y_mousse The Expanse game will not be on Steam but rather the epic store. I think that the % that goes to the devs is higher on Epic than steam. I know all too much about how much Steam takes off for each sale considering I have a game on Steam lol

Thank you for the insight on the status of The Expanse and all the work you've put into this series Chris! I'm still curious though. Considering how much has changed between book 6 and book 7 between the setting, the conflict, and the plot, is there potential for the last 3 books of The Expanse to get picked up as a spin-off IP? Perhaps even as 3 movies or a limited series if a network doesn't want to commit enough resources to a show with multiple seasons like the original?

Pretty sure Alcon did come up with a bunch of different ideas to finish the story with Amazon but they didn't want to pay. It's like he said, it's gonna take a network to be really interested in the expanse (and we as fans consuming everything about the brand) to make a live action return possible. I would imagine that even on a movie or limited series, some type of build-in recap is going to be done which complicates things even more.

Anything is possible but if you ask my personal opinion it might be a very very long time until it's considered or it just won't happen. Networks want to make a new hit TV show not continue an existing series.

If the Telltale game is successful, they may make some more story games with Drummer. Its more logical to create than a TV series, and theres so much more story potential with the choices.

Even if that’s the case, keeping the Expanse IP alive strengthens Alcons position if the chance ever came to adapt The final three novels. Maybe it won’t happen right away but continue if to show that fans still want expanse is good.

As much as it sucks, I agree. I feel this is the last of the live action The Expanse we will see, at least of many many years. (I have heard 'Farscape is coming back' line since it ended. All of the plans and gossip never progress past vapourware. ) Hopefully the game and other media are a hit.

I don’t read books typically. The Expanse was so darn good I ended up reading the last 3 and the side story at the end. In all honesty, I don’t understand how they could continue the series as before based on the books…we go way into the future for book 7 till the end. They would have to age the actors or rewrite some basic plot points such as Laconia building its military power. An epic movie some years from now could work IMO. Anyway, after reading the trilogy I am very much ok with how the series ended, it was pretty much perfect and have rewatched many times.

Honest question. What I see from the outside is big studios milking the same franchises, the same formulas in an amazing number of sequels, spin offs, products of all kinds. So I would suppose that, while it makes sense to pursue a big project based on LOTR, I'd think it would have been less risky to continue a successful show with a faithful following. After all, streaming platforms need more new customers, but they also need to keep the ones they have already, right?

I'm honestly not sure if they're stupid or evil, but their decisions have the same outcome, no one supports great shows because they don't want to invest time watching something if the rug is just going to be pulled out from under their feet before the story concludes. It was very popular, it's just a relative niche show as all hard sci-fi are. Syfy cancelled because they don't own the IP, Alcon does, it was the same reason they cancelled Dark Matter who had pretty good ratings but since they didn't own the IP, they cancelled to focus on their own stuff.
