I’m glad I found this site. I’ve always wanted to try the trumpet. I’m 73, and have not played a horn since my college days. Back then I played the French horn, baritone, and alto horn. Life got busy. Now I’m retired, I’m ready to try the trumpet.

I am absolutely blown away that developing a full resonant sound is not mentioned in what should be included in a trumpet routine ! Your approach in playing any instrument should be from a musical approach, not just nuts and bolts..

I understand where you're coming from. Many people are hardcore with their philosophies on how to approach the horn. I believe they mainly lead to the same end and each intersect along the way. I've come to understand that if a person's body is out of shape for trumpet playing then they don't stand a chance at making great music on the horn. Everything truly does work together.

Great video and many useful information. I just felt that he didn't answer the questions very specifically so when he was done answering i wasn't sure what the answer is:P. I think Chris is better at answering to the point. Apart from that thank you for introducing this very wise man to us

Yes, indeed. Do you have a favorite segment?

@@ChrisDavisTrumpet , I admire both of you of course, but I enjoyed the fact that I continue to use Lip Flexibilities and HL Clarke for cornet now and then to help with my technique. But I question his disagreement with the use of long tones. First time learning of Mr Purtle, thanks.
