More than 30 years ago I hunted with an American gentleman who had a Thompson Contender in a .460 necked down to a .375. I cannot recall the barrel length but it had a fearsome recoil and left many bloody faces and broken noses behind. This gentleman hunted everything with his TC, including Rhino and Buffalo. He never used "sticks" and I cannot remember him ever missing a shot.

The 460 necked down? Are you sure, The 460 wasnt around 30 years ago

@@kevintlachac4109 Before you comment make sure that you know what you are talking about. The .460 Weatherby has been around for more than 60 years, 67 if I am not mistaken.

@@hendrikvandeventer7669 I'm Sorry Hendrick, But the above was about handgun hunting so I falsely assumed you were talking about the 460 S&W necked down. If this guy you don't remember. actually had a "Contender" in a wildcat based on the 460 Weatherby cartridge? Im quite sure the "many bloody faces" came from the barrel letting go, if not the entire unit, shrapnel being the culprit. While you didnt specify what 460 in your post, you did say, Contender.

@@kevintlachac4109 The handgun was a TC and it was a .460 necked down to a .375 and the bloody faces were caused by the recoil with the barrel wacking the shooter in the face across the nose and the forehead. I fired it a couple of times and even at 6'4' and plus 240 fit lbs with your elbows not locked and a proper grip it was a violent recoil and only fired it after watching the owner and a couple of unfortunate PH's.

Max Prasac has written a great book on Hunting Handgun Revolvers produced by Gun Digest. I highly recommend it.

Very nicely done.Lots of hard work and hours put in for a successful hunt. Many people underestimate what a powerful revolver can do,but with proper shot placement and the right bullet, they are capable of taking anything on earth. Not my first choice for stopping a charge but it can be done like Lynn Thompson showed in Australia.

A hand gun in Zimbabwe is a fire arm with a barrel length of 18" and below

The horn boss was soft and a bull will, of some advanced age, have a hardened area in the middle of the head between the sweeping horns. That is what they are looking for in a big Cape Buffalo.

Too bad she didn't have the 9 1/2" barrel. I sold my first one then they discontinued it. I seen one at the gun shop and bought it on site.
