I know I shouldn't laugh or poke fun but every time I see 2000 REV4 in your title I know it's going to be entertaining. I have 1 REV4 out of the 3 2000s I have and someone fried the power rail. After watching the pure hell that these things put you through I ordered a new PCB for it about 4 months ago lol

Last Amiga 2000 I worked on the first six pins on the 68000 to the right of the "notch" (with the notch orientated at the bottom) were just very slightly corroded . However, the first two holes of the socket itself on that same side were completely corroded off! Just blue green dust! Strange in that just those first six pins and the two holes were the only signs of corrosion.

When it gets too hot in the workshop of wonders, step out for a dose of wobble juice and cold chicken drumsticks. (Cook the chicken first and refrigerate) I have a couple of 1084s sitting on the shelf. One has a broken power switch. And I have a CRT TV with RGB SCART that works. I'd ship one of the 1084's to you but the cost is prohibitive... Full airfare price! And then who knows if it'll survive "handling".

"Drobo - It's a robot! That eats your data." (That's the slogan of the Drobo subreddit.) I've had a 5C that had to be repaired/replaced under warranty twice. It finally bit the dust a third time once out of warranty a couple years ago. I bought a cheap 5D on ebay only to realize the 5C took all 40 TB of data to the grave with it. So getting all that restored was fun.

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Glad you’re using other storage also. Drobos have the combined reliability of a 90s Varta and an 80s Mac RIFA capacitor! Totally can relate to having multiple ancient storage tech in use. I’m using several legacy storage products along with a handful of 10+ year Mac software-raided enclosures that probably should be swapped.

The Doctor is back in! 👍🏻 I know how you feel on repairs. Just spent today trying to get a G-REX A1200 PCI board with a BlizzPPC card to work. SPOILER ALERT! It didn’t 🙄 Now using a Pi-Storm and looking to get a Mediator setup with it. You mentioned the A520 Modulator for the 23 PIN RGB connector? I’ve got a couple of the AMITEK Black versions (PAL?). Call em whatever you want but they are Standoff's and come in all different types of metal and even plastic, but you already knew that. Chris you really need to push everything aside and take some time for yourself. Take the wife somewhere, turn off all cell phones to eliminate distractions. There will always be broken Amiga's heck they will all break it's their destiny to do so. If you don't take a break, you too will break down and that will be a much sadder day. I know the work you do is greatly appreciated but please take some time and relax.

I have an A2000HD sitting in a box. It hasn't been powered up in a very long time. I'm sure its has damage from a leaking Varta battery. I will have to open it up one day, assess the damage, and see whether I can repair the board.

You need to remove that battery NOW! The longer you wait the worse off your Amiga will be.

I figure that any damage that the battery is going to do has been done by now and isn't likely to be still getting any worse. I'll get to it eventually. I need to clear some items off my workbench before I'd have enough room to work on my A2000.

It isn't Schrödinger's Motherboard, both intact and leaked a little, but not getting worse until you actually pop the top and look at it! Really, it is worth checking before it is too late. I wish I still had my A2000. It's the only one that got away...

I'm so glad I didn't try to get myself a 2000 when coming back to Amiga. A500+ and A12000 are the best, with no Varta on the main boards. Is there anything a 2000 can do that a PiStormed 500plus cannot?
