Thanks, Jack. Unfortunately, I was sooooooo friggin out of it when I filmed this video, so editing was the REAL nightmare, not the spider. There are clips I had to leave out because the lighting or audio was so bad :( I mentioned your video in my description, but I wanted to suggest it in the actual video. I figure some of our videos actually compliment eachother. You show what the symptoms might be and that they might not be all they're cracked up to be, and I talk about the species, etc. It works out.

Hi, thank you SO MUCH! Tbh, I have no idea what I am doing wrong or not doing. I imagine my titles and thumbnails are not what they should be, but sharing to my social media and Reddit doesn't seem to work to well, either. I know they prefer people not to post their own content on Reddit, and as for social media......most of my friends simply don't care :/ I am so confused at this point - lol

Honestly your videos are great! considering you are just starting out. You correct common myths, and give correct information. Being as correct as possible on topics is something that we need, especially how easy it is to find false information over correct on the internet these days. Tiktok being a big culprit of that. And trust me, you will find your quote on quote "theme" that you do for your videos, and you can always take inspiration from others(And yes inspiration and copying are two different things, don't @me keyboard warriors. da Vinci took inspiration from the bible in his art, didn't flat out copy the bible. Bad example but you get it) There are plenty of resources out there to help guide you in your content creation, just get a pen and pad and start searching. And about your friends, don't want to sound like a dick... but they don't sound like great friends if they don't care. And if you really think about it... there are 27k people that do care, the ones subscribed that are subscribed because they want to see more. Keep up the good work dude! Fuck the haters and the ones that don't care, do it for the lovers and the ones that do ✌🏻

Not going to lie, hope I don't come back as a male black widow in my next life. 14:47 dang, like a few days to a week? Fascinating facts. Didn't know about the small snakes as prey, that's wild. Little lady packs a punch.

I loved this one! Super informative and I'm always interested in black widows because they are pretty much the only thing people in my state fear because the only other spider that has the possibility to kill you here is the brown recluse! Also I'm pretty sure I've seen one before while cleaning out the shed and they were never ever aggressive or came after me. You are so right about her placement of her body and her attitude. It's very clear she is not out to hurt anyone and spiders do not exist just to hunt down humans. Learning about spiders is the main reason I stopped being terrified and instead develop a big admiration for. I see spiders or bugs these days and just smile or watch them for a bit and then let them go about their day

Hi, thank you for subscribing and commenting. It makes me happy to hear that my videos are calming to you. I find most of my Camping, and Pine Barrens videos to be that way. I am a little sad about this video, though. For some reason, it just doesn't seem to be doing nearly as well as it should. I tried sharing to social media and all that, but still not many views. Some day I might actually figure this thing out. Thanks so much for your support!

I worked for a communications company years ago and in one of the offices I visited to fix an occasional problem there was a black widow who set up housekeeping at the entry door. Her web was at the floor level on the opening side of the door where there was a quarter inch gap for her next meal to enter the building. I never bothered her because she performed the task of keeping unwanted insects out of the equipment. She was a Southern girl and she was beautiful. She had a real nice home there because it was dry and air conditioned. She lived there for almost 2 years rent free. During her first year acting as the resident pest controller I took a two-week vacation but she didn't, she continued on with her duties. A month after I returned from vacation I was notified by the control center that there was an equipment trouble in the building. I drove the 45 minutes to the site and when I arrived and opend the door there she was standing guard at that little entry hole. Believe it or not I squatted down and said hi to her and went on to fix the equipment trouble. I took another 2-week vacation near the end of her second year and when I returned I received a phone call from the central office. The technician at the other end said there was an equipment trouble in the Lake office the day before. Upon opening the door he noticed the web at the floor level and the Black Widow but don't worry he said, I killed it. After that, every time I entered that particular office I looked down to see if Mother Nature ever supplied a replacement. She never did. Thank you for another interesting update.

@b b yes, in a way it was. I did talk to her when I entered the building but she never did reply. Of course I guess that's a good thing. 🤭

Your Black Widow is simply stunning. My favourite species here in the UK is the Steatoda family, particularly the bipunctata. I believe these are called false widows, and they present many of the same behaviours as you describe for Latrodectus.
@chrisegnoto2 жыл бұрын
There are some cool species in the UK, for sure. Those Steatodas are interesting. Whenever i come across them, they seem pretty shy. The first time I ever handled a spider was in England. First two species, actually.

Black and red is my favorite color combination too. Over a decade ago I had a large aloe vera plant outside which a black widow decided to make her home. I let her stay there for a year, obviously not disturbing her. I loved getting to glimpse her here and there while I watered my plants. One day she just wasn’t there anymore and I was a little sad.
@ShaneHerrick2 жыл бұрын
The male you show at 5:25 is actually Steatoda and not Latrodectus, Chris... just FYI. But perhaps you meant it as just an example of male spiders in general. Great vid.
@chrisegnoto2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Shane. Yeah, I am bummed about my editing. I had a caption stating the species in that clip, and it ended up below that clip instead of on top of it. Not the first time I have botched a caption that way :/ Yep, I just mean it as spiders in general. That Steatoda was SO hard to film and would scurry into his hideaway at any movement - lol. I hope it doesn't mislead too many viewers. Thanks for commenting and all - Chris

Black Widows and Recluses are in and around nearly every house/building in the South. I've been bitten by a Widow and two Recluses. Their affect has everything to do with an individual's amount of allergic reaction. May be little and may be a lot. The Recluse was worse but I'm not particularly allergic to the toxin. I've got paper wasps that build under the eaves every year and they hurt far more.

I love your setup for this awesome spider. If I ever encounter one I'll treat her with the utmost respect and maybe set up a nice tank for her. The fact that the female lives so long would be worth keeping one. Did you keep her cold in the winter? I'd assume they would need to hibernate even in captivity. Salute to my friend.

It' looks like you been bitten before, do you think it is better to work with male black widow spider to female black widow spider? You and the spider king work with black widow spiders. Could it be possible for the a cross hybrid of a Northern and Southern black widow?

Never been tagged, myself. The males are quite different and don't live very long. I have wondered about hybrids, also. Found a real interesting adult Northern female about a week ago. I got a short film of her.
