Just an extra tip if you really want the light to look good - BEFORE you dry out the inside of the light, you should pour some 90% isopropyl alcohol and/or JetDry on the inside to remove any deposits/spots on the lens left over from the old water. This will ensure you get a nice CLEAN look when you are done.

That was excellent Chris. I'd never have thought of adding more water or adding pressure. I tried to separate my lens from the mirror and it cracked the glass. My leak was a stone-chip hole in the lens, which I used chop-sticks to glue the glass-chip back in place, on the inside, through the bulb hole. I used a funnel attached to a hair-dryer to blow warm air directly inside through the bulb hole. Thanks again. D.

For drying you could pull the vent cap, put the bulb back in and light the bulb. No risk of overheating you headlight since it's a expected working condition (except for the H2O inside). This is also a quick way to dry your headlight before going to a vehicle inspection.

When I did it, the inside of my headlight was a bit dirty, so I filled with water + soap and got a small soft brush in there and cleaned it a couple of times, rinsed, and dried with a microfibre cloth inserted through the bulb hole and a soft plastic stick to push the cloth around. Sharpies are not Magic Markers. And I don't just mean they're different brands. That's not important. Magic Markers are called "magic" because they're erasable, as opposed to Sharpies which are usually permanent. They're basically opposites, which is why it's weird to call Sharpies "Magic Markers". Also, you don't have to be old to remember Magic Markers. They still exist.

Did not read all of the comments so I will add this. You said that one should not touch the bulbs, here's why and what to do if you do. This info is for all high intensity style bulbs whether used on the vehicle, in the home, and or as garden lights. Your fingers will leave an oily residue that will create a hot spot that will shorten the bulbs life. When ever you do handle these kind of bulbs always use tissue and after replacing the bulb clean it using alcohol and a lit free cloth to remove any of the fingerprints.

Why not just seal the entire thing. Chances are it’s gonna start leaking elsewhere being that it’s an old headlight. And after unclipping and removing the whole thing you might as well. Juss sayin. ChrisFix saves the day once again! I recommemd silicone caulk if available..it will stand up to extreme heat and remain flexible(or what he used, just not regular household trim caulk) That old sealant probably cracked during temperature changes. A video of how to clean inside of headlight would be cool! Hint hint:) ...it doesn't touch the bulb or else it gets the hose again.

Want to do this to my fog light on my Genesis. I would have to take apart the whole front of the car and all of the cladding underneath. On second thought ill just have some moist fog lights

Some people drill a very tiny hole in the bottom corner of the lens and that works as well.

I think it’s just blinker fluid leaking to the headlights.

I would've split it open and glued it back together with epoxy.
@cyy37938 жыл бұрын
Yes i agree. Split it open, clean out the old glue, freshen the surface, and apply new glue, or silicone caulk.
@WJHandyDad8 жыл бұрын
that also makes it easier to thoroughly dry out the inside and clean up the lens if needed

Some lamps are glued so good in places they will break where you don't want it to. Would be nice if the manufacturers would start using glass again and using better seals. Worth the extra cost.
@cvcoco5 жыл бұрын
logic says you are right but in reality if you split it open it will never glue back perfectly and you'll have more than one leak later. Shops previously advised me to do it like chris did or replace the whole thing. The act of splitting it open distorts both surfaces and it wont be right again.

You are very smart. The dealer wanted to fix it for about a five hundred dollar bill. Thank you.

I had a water problem and I just drilled two tiny holes in the front of the lens. It allows for condensation in the future from accumulating. Always dry.
