Put a re-manufactured compressor on my car that they said they tested, it turns on and the clutch activates fine but won't hold a charge. When recharged by a pro the temp didn't change hardly at all. Going to use this method. Thanks.

Mine was making hissing sound on and off so I bought the refrigerator with leak sealer. Hope that'll help fix the leak if there's any and that hissing sound does not comes back on when I turn on the ac. In the future, I might just get the refrigerant with uv dye in it and check again for leaks. Great job for doing a thorough leak detecting using uv dye. That was very helpful. Keep up the great tutorial guide. I love watching all your videos as they are all very informative.

not a toyota owner here but doesn’t matter in this case because the subject of the matter is how to investigate a leak with simple gear you can find at any parts store or online. i used to be scared or intimidated by ac systems but after a little 1-0-1 on youtube about how to replace condensers and such, it’s not so “rocket-sciency” stuff anymore. i’m no mechanic by any measure. but i’m not an idiot soy boy that couldn’t change a wheel or tire or my own brakes or oil etc. this is a very helpful and simple to follow and understand video without being overwhelming and extra winded on everything. i already have my replacement ac condenser for my 2011 ford f-250 gasser but there is 👌nada video on how to replace that specific part for that specific year model and engine. it’s really frustrating. however after watching many ac condenser videos on a variety of models and makes, they all generally are the same concept of dismounting and inspecting and replacing.

I know this is 5 years old but I really hope this guy got all the issues on this taco fixed. This thing needed some love. I already know the leaks going to be massive when I hit it with the UV light. As soon as I hit the trigger you can hear it escaping up by the condenser somewhere. The system won't even build pressure at all. Gonna check out that ring for sure.

Nice leak detecting. Another thing you might try if you don't seem to find the leak, is to try looking at the puddle of evaporator water on the ground to see if it has any die from evaporator leak. Since it's so hard to look in the box. I don't know if that really works any good but it's an idea.

Thank you for a great video. Two suggestions: 1) To be complete, shouldn't you have looked for a leak under the dash (evaporator)? 2) There is a turnable ring around the pressure gauge on the can. On hot days, the pressure a normal system is higher than on cold days, due to expansion. So, the ring is adjusted to point to the outside temp, which also moves the lines indicating a "good" range for pressure indication when filling the ac.

One thing that springs to mind when you brought the UV torch out is that if you didn't own the vehicle from new it might be worth giving it the once over with the light before starting to ensure there isn't any pre-existing dye from a previous leak.

***** Depending on the vehicle, a compressor swap is a cake walk. Did a swap years ago on a 2000 S-10. Was a breeze. I just had to remove the belt, and basically unbolt the compressor.

That's what I thought, the issue is I'll have to bring it to a shop to get it all evacuated. Cause I do have good refrigerant in my lines. Just the compressor is making a wicked bad thumping noise (like a bad piston) occasionally when running. I saw another comment about how this could be caused by the shop who did my cooler flipping the recharge can all the way upside down feeding liquid into the lines.

Chris. Just another idea is, if u have the means to borrow or buy a sniffer. The r134a is heavier than the surrounding gases. So use the sniffer at all the lowest points and you can find a lot of leaks that the dye and light might not find. Steve
