Every motorsport fan has wondered what it would be like to build a racetrack around roads they know. So, I decided to take the the premise one step further and build a race circuit around one of my old Childhood haunts for Assetto Corsa!

@@marioskapetanakis Have you tried it? I spent hours trying to recreate my local go kart track. The road kept warping and creating huge holes in the ground. Managed to fix a hole and a new one would pop up. Adding the pits ended up being a nightmare as well. The pit entry twisted around itself. And the pit exit somehow ended up creating a 1m bump (more like a wall). Exporting the track after finally managing to iron out the worst bumps ended in a track assetto corsa woldn't accept and a project that was corrupted. Wouldn't you get discouraged?

My daughters and I are currently building a slot car track together. As we come from a long line of proud Texans, we took the time to come up with Texas-themed names for all of our turns. The two main straights are named after Carroll Shelby and A. J. Foyt. Except for tire sponsors and the like, all of our track sponsors are also Texas based companies. This part of the project was surprisingly engaging for my girls and it turned the project away from just crafting and made it into a history lesson for the girls. I found out just how little my girls are learning in their history classes, and I got to introduce them to some neat places and historical events along the way. Having named curves makes it far easier for my daughters to follow races on TV, but it’s downright invaluable on a slot car track. They struggle with remembering turn numbers, but when you name them it just sticks. The same is true for adult race fans, we just don’t realize it.

This looks like a lot of things, but certainly not like a first attempt. The transformation from barren wasteland to actual track is stunning! Seeing all the subtle height changes and camber in the road, I imagine this might be a challenging track. I'd love to drive some laps there. Not only hotlaps, but an actual race. There's enough width to this track to see overtaking/defending action all over the place. Hat's off to you, it is magnificent!

Im a 2000's kid. Back in the 80's, California had Ontario Motor Speedway which would have been my local race track. I always loved the idea of a racetrack which was certified for Formula 1, IndyCar, NASCAR, and NHRA drag racing. Unfortunately it ran very few events in the short decade it was open. This gives me some hope in finding a way to drive something that somewhat resembles the track.

This video is really, incredibly inspiring. I purchased RTB a few years ago, tried to re-create my local track, could never get it working, and gave up. But after seeing this, I promptly re-installed RTB and continued where I left off (I quickly ended up starting from scratch) But now I have 2 tracks under my belt, plus another 2 in the works, and yes theres the RTB stigma, but I've had remarkable amounts of good feedback. Hearing comments of peoples memories of one of the old, permanently closed tracks I built is really heartwarming, and makes me love the racing community further.

There’s a potential layout here in Easton, Pa that I’ve come to be aware of over the years that I think would be pretty amazing if I could do it enough justice. There’d be three long straights, plenty of sweepers, left and right, several hairpins or near hairpins, one of them murderous, and lots and lots of elevation changes. The scenery could be awesome, too, running from countryside to neighborhoods and back, with two rivers thrown in for good measure. I’ve pondered it idly for a long time, tweaking it in my mind, and this video makes me think I just might be able to do it, after all. Certainly I’ve got enough time on my hands these days.

Don't call using tools cheating. It doesn't matter what tools you use, the end result is what counts. If some purist insists on doing it the slow and tedious way, that's their decision and their time. It would also be totally valid to use the Race Track Builder as a starting point and refining it from there with other more powerful software.

At the start of the pandemic, I had this crazy idea of adapting my local cycling routes to AC. It turns out that they include the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, and I could expand upon it and make a 15km track that's part F1, part city circuit and part tiny hillclimb. I was excited, and came upon two solutions : Race Track Builder, or the *proper* way using actual LIDAR data. Problem is, I'm a graphic and web designer, I don't know much about CAD, so it was a massive undertaking. My first idea was that if it was worth doing, it was worth doing properly. Why use a shortcut when I could develop useful skills, have better data and better results? That mentality led me to... do nothing at all, actually. The work seemed so big, I didn't know how to tackle it, at all. Your video made me dedicate this very day to create a working prototype of my idea in Race Track Builder. It won't be up to my standards, but I'll still learn a lot from it, without a doubt. Plus, nothing prevents me from doing it "right" at a later date. To finish first, first you must finish. You convinced me to pursue this unattainable project. Thank you, Chris.

I've been messing with that program for months and noticed you were doing things i didn't even know existed in that program! Really inspired me to go back and finish the 30+ tracks i already started on. I got a bad habit of getting them roughly as far as you did, then moving on to a new project. Never really got around to getting the bumps and terrain just right. If you ever figure out how to add water such as ponds, lakes, or rivers please let me know 🙏 that is the number one thing holding me up on atleast half of my projects, as i originally assumed it wouldn't be hard to figure out and built them all with that assumption. 😪

Definetly look more into Sebrings over construction, and like what areas the kept original and what areas they repaved, look at the real spot today and look at the foliage and see what you can incorporate. Very fun lookin track

That race track builder looks like Bobs Track Builder from ages back that was never "finished" ? Well done getting something together, nice job.

Me and the lads used to head over to Blackbushe market back in the day to pick up leather jackets and rock/metal T-shirts. I always wanted to hoon around it too...probably better without the stalls.

Epic achievement unlocked! Who knows how many people have some concept "my neighborhood" racetrack rattling around in their brain - I know I do, but may never find the time to actually realize it. Good on you for making it happen. Also, brilliant car choice btw. One of my absolute faves. Though you should try the non-GT4 variant for some proper heel-toe track fun 😊😎

I used to drop cars into Blackbushe. So I've stood on your racetrack. Very cool to see a place I've been turned into a racetrack. One criticism of the video; I'd have liked to have seen a lap of the finished track from the drivers viewpoint. We never got to see your finished track in all its glory.

Could have used the roundabout out the front as everyone else seems to think that's part of a race track 😂

First, congratulations! You put a dream into er.... virtual reality. Very cool idea, and a huge effort. But that is one SERIOUSLY wide race track.

I can see the emotions on your face Chris, I can almost feel it myself. 😍 Very cool to have such a marvelous experience after finding the right tools in this digital age. We're so blessed to have these opportunities. I do like the idea to put the track up on RD so we can see how it evolves. And I have no doubt somebody could probably do an amazing job of improving it. BUT it's YOUR track. You and only you can decide the flow and where to put things like the grand stands. Personally I'd try to reduce the circuit vibe and focus on the airport vibe. Smaller stands, more simplistic might add to it. And the whole width of the runway should be visible but perhaps by adding lines or guardrails split it in a narrower section for driving might help. Also add more bushes trees and stuff will help. And then hand it over to a professional for a touch up. And let's do a race sometime. I'd be honored if you could drop me an invite 😎🏁

Of course, you will have already seen F1 at Blackbushe a couple of years ago - when they were filming Rush there :) I started down the same path in rFactor, doing the "Pirbright Ring". A more interesting circuit but I only got as far as a drivable ribbon of tarmac

This track looks fun. I had so many ideas for fictional racetracks as a kid that I would just doodle in notebooks and such, so maybe I ought to give this a shot. Of course, a lot of my old ideas would need improvement to actually make them decent race tracks.
