I just want to thank you very much for these long, non-edited videos. They are actually super informative and invaluable learning tools. Your description says that it's meant to be "watched on the side," but I actually really pay attention to your techniques, pause, and try to do them myself. So thank you very, very much. Whatever you get from these is like .0001% of whatever someone who watches these gains.

I totally agree. Here I am like 3 hours in and ready to go take a nap and I stopped the video and it's only 6 minutes in hahaha! I can't wait to come back and work on my girl! She's looking an awful lot like yours and the fact that you include the reference picture has been invaluable. I didn't realize how much I would look at that while following your tutorial. I think maybe I'm having an issue with the paper I'm using. I feel like it's already pretty cakey. I am totally fine with starting over I just need to know the best paper to use. I'm using Prismacolors which could also be leading me into trouble even with the least amount of pressure holding the pencil all the way back and sideways. Somehow my girl looks a lot like yours so I'm doing something right. And I used a long time to get the drawing down to begin with. Colored pencils are new to me too. Or pencil crayons as you call them! It's a struggle but I'll get there.

@bleachedout8053 жыл бұрын
@@codghost9301 It is an unorthodox one but it comes from understanding values and color theory. She is using complimentary colors but she is interpreting her skintones in a much more dynamic way than they really are. If she followed more of an exact shade it would be more realistic but kind of boring 😴.

Back after watching. I gotta say I was so impressed by the hues you managed to see in your reference. I don't think I achieved that yet. My eye can see colors but like not that much and I feel like I learnt so much through your process that I will try to apply next time I sit down to draw something. I gotta say I also love how you use the colored pencils in different directions yet the study has a very cool look at the end and I just love it.

How funny, I do the same thing-- I constantly am talking to my self aloud, and usually when i'm alone lol. Don't want anyone to think i'm crazy, but I definitely do this. Especially when I am drawing and am really into what I'm drawing. Also, i really enjoy the laid back style of your videos! All I come for, and I'm sure many others, is to watch the artist do their thing and talk to us during. I think the way you discuss things throughout your videos is great. It feels personal and genuine. A real up close look at what you do is more than entertaining to watch! Again thank you for the great content!!

I have been doing art for 30 years and have a room that has art supplies everywhere and for all those years I have been wanting to organize my shit but just have not. Amazing-again! It was so fascinating and informative, just watching and listening to you think out loud, and seeing the results of each decision. Colored pencil is definitely a good medium for you. The affect of both portraits is a luminosity that was absent in the photo references. You obviously drew on your knowledge of color theory, and understanding of how light defines facial planes, and the use of values throughout brought it all together so beautifully. I’m always so gobsmacked by your abilities as an artist. I kept feeling that each girl could have talked and told the most interesting stories about their lives. Thanks again for allowing us to watch you at work!

Interesting comment on people preferring your studies more on instagram- I showed my art account to a colleague once and she told me she liked my realistic portraits better than my illustrations. It felt disheartening because the reason why I do studies is to improve my drawing from imagination, and for me studies require less effort and they never really feel like they are in 'my style'. I always really love your illustrations for being stylised, and seeing how it even comes through in these portrait studies is also lovely. I really hope instagram doesn't discourage you from sharing your illustrations

Chris, two things, I think it might be best for you and everyone not to take any one person's suggestions to heart. Like the girl who said for you to talk a certain way. You cannot please everyone, so just be yourself. I like you the way you are. Now, one thing I personally think, is that all your art is good, but your portraits have a distinctive look, I automatically know they are yours, and they are nice. So that kind of shows maybe you should go with what you love, and when you get lots of likes it is because they are really special.

My lovely friend - I am in the same boat, however I have found that if I keep on top of my cleaning (which I sometimes prioritize cleaning too much) it really helps maintaining a calm environment. I used to be a complete disaster but as I’ve gotten older it has become so much easier. I worked really hard at being an organized person. Would it help if you vlogged reorganizing and decorating your room? Or contacting someone else that could help you find solutions to contain your “mess”? Sometimes just having a place to hide the mess from even yourself is helpful. My house, for example, is very clean looking and is often complimented for being well decorated and clean - but honey, if you open any of my drawers... apocalyptic disaster. At my job, I am very organized but my drawers throughout my house tell another story.

Some colors hide as the flat colors that look like red or brown but are actually changes in hues that fit into th eobject's shape. Basically fun the sun all the spectrums of light can hit the face but what the eye collects is based off what you're willing to see.
@Mameha45 жыл бұрын
The way you can learn this is to blow up a photo and really zoom in there. Then you will see greens and blues and purples and yellows. Then just start painting, keeping in mind to use those colours. I for example love using light blue and light yellow for highligts and purple and green for shadows. Dark blue for really dark shadows. A regular blue works well as reflective light in a shadow area. It is mostly trial and error and what's up to your taste, but those are the colours I love using. And I also love leaving visible, unblended strokes of bright yellow/ green/ purple/ blue ect in random places to create visual interest.

It amazes me the amount of color variation you can get with just colored pencils. Your videos are always enlightening and this time, in particular, I couldn't help but think about how I would approach things. It gives me something to compare and contrast my working steps to and ways I can change those to try and achieve a particular result. In short, I like these longer videos. (and I hope it's not too weird to say your voice is very soothing. I almost fell asleep because of it but I was too interested to see how it would turn out! lol) I get the having a hard time to break into something (I keep telling myself I'll get around to making a youtube video eventually, or to follow this idea or that one), but if you really want to do it, you're just gonna have to fail at it at first. Just like art. (Why do we do this to ourselves again? lol) In all seriousness though, you've cultivated an audience who enjoys your art, enjoys you. I'm sure whatever you want to do you'll do great at it.

You are an amazing artist & probably have already learned this as this video is a year or so old but to remove the grainy texture it is best if you use a very sharp pencil to go into the grain of the paper. Love the illustration, you’re really making me want to attempt working wit colored pencils even though I’m already struggling with watercolors and digital painting. I wonder if the reason you found the shadows on the right side (closest to the viewer) to be weak is because the shadows on the cheek farthest away from the viewer were too dark and through off the values? But overall I love how vibrant and lively your colored pencil figure studies are, I wish I could discern color the same way you do😊

What you said about instagram nature is very true..! This happens to me as well, and in the past I gave this much more importance than I should had. While planning a drawing I thought about how it'd look from the explore page, if it'd fit into a square, if it'd look good in my gallery etc... Though all what I had to focus on was what I wanted to draw. Art is not at all about likes. I'm pretty sure a lot of my works would turn out more sincere if I understood it earlier. So please, don't care about it too much. Only care about it when it essentially affects your earnings (I found you very recently and as I understood you earn your living by drawing). You're a wonderful artist, and what you create cannot be measured by such meaningless things like comments, likes or shares.

Im so sorry in advance if there is anything I say offended you, But I just wanted to say, I like this type of video where you relax and enjoying your art. Thank you.
