I personally think, that the thing with her voice breaking, is less of an uncontrolled/planned thing, and more the feeling of the song. I personally think that Ado is a master of bringing emotions to the songs. She is emotion herself I would say. And the song is so desperate that she became song herself
@Shanahra-ok1ne Жыл бұрын
I agree absolutely. I have seen other comments on other reaction streams mentioning how she is lacking her breathing skills in this live but I think they simply forget that this song is meant to be emotional, desperate and out of controle. Ado isn't just singing her songs, she is becomming the song and she goes all out and doesn't shy away from sounding less refined and perfect when its needed for the songs emotion to hit the listeners soul. It takes a true artist and talent to be ready to sacrifice the clean part of technics if the song demands it and still making it sound melodic at the end. I am so looking forward to her world tour and I am so excited to see her grow even more renown not just in Japan and among Japan fans but among every music fan worldwide. She earns it.

the studio version is one of the best covers of Unravel I've heard. The Live version is absolute theatre, she throws herself into so hard, she unravels with the song. It's beautiful
@MeIsHaku11 ай бұрын
I'm on the side that thinks it wasn't intentional. Mostly because she's only like, what, 20 years old, and this is maybe like her second time doing a live performance. I think being a good singer and being a good live performer are different skills because in studio you can take your time, while live, you have to have stamina. And for Ado, her style of singing is very "go all out from start to finish", and combined with the song that is very 0 to 100 often, AS WELL as this being a few songs into the performance, she probably was just singing "desperately", because it sounded like she was out of breath and was just using every last ounce of strength she had to get her volume out. She's said before how her songs aren't easy to sing. But this isn't me being negative in any way. I absolutely love Ado to death and she's one of my favorite singers ever, and I don't think what she did for the performance was bad at all it sounded amazing. I'm just saying I don't think it was intentional. I'm sure the emotions of the song are what drove her to do it that way tho. Maybe if it weren't that song she would've approached it differently and "safer". Because some singers just lay off and take a breather for a bit and let the audience sing or something. But I think some part of that song made her feel like she had to sing it all no matter what. Thats the vibe I got, and its why I love music.
@jackjak71311 ай бұрын
@@MeIsHakuI'm 20yrs experienced singer hard rock metal mainly and can do pops, tried to be able to sing any types. I diagree with you, said it's not intentional. A thing i found awesome about the live version is that the way she decided to sing it gave "new" meaning to the lyrics She has to sing "wasurenaide" 4 times, that means "don't forget (me)" all in 1 word. But the way she sings it, it gets divided in 2 "wasure" and "naide" basically "forget" and "don't" So now you have a direct contrast in the singers voice between Forget, a more light and high note, and Don't, a raw scream, like begging you with all her soul to not do it It's something that is neither in the original song nor in the cover. she built upon the original and made it her own live.
@天江衣-e1d Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I might add, it becomes even easier to understand if you consider that this song is the theme song of Tokyo Ghoul. In brief, "Tokyo Ghoul" is the story of a protagonist who is half-human, half-ghoul. The way she sings the "don't forget" part of the song can be interpreted as expressing its "human" and "monster" selves through her voice color. the vocal tones change in a certain pattern, but gradually they become mixed in an irregular manner. This expresses the chaos of losing one's self.
@nnnnhmm Жыл бұрын
@@天江衣-e1dthat's exactly what I thought too! When I shared a link of her live to my sister, one of my descriptions was that she seemed liked she was "glitching" by that point of the song, physically and mentally no longer in control of who would take over and constantly switching word for word, not like at the starting part, where she's switching every other sentence (-ish? lol or for the first verse she was full human, but by the time it's almost in the first chorus, the ghoul side has started to integrate itself into her. sorry am rambling, but yes)

This song is by TK (male vocalist) of the rock band 凛として時雨, used in the opening of an anime called Tokyo Ghoul. The story of Tokyo Ghoul begins with a prologue in which the main character, an ordinary man, is attacked one day by a strange creature and ends up having a violent self inside him that is different from his previous self. What's so great about this song? Even if you don't understand Japanese, can't you recall the story and the conflict of the main character from the singing voice? For those interested, check out the animation, the original song, and the translation of the song. High praise also to Teacher Chris for his excellent commentary that unravels the singing voice of Ado!

Not only that but he gets tied down and strapped to a chair and tortured by someone and that ties into the "Oo goku naide" meaning "I can't move." so when he realises he buckled into this chair his mind racing in a panic and as the days progress he is slowly breaking down from the pain and abuse he's being subjected to till he snaps and his half monster side breaks him out.

Fun fact: This is the opening of an anime that is really popular way back then and my favorite anime opening songs The song especially the scream is what the protagonist of the anime "Tokyo ghoul" felt when it's too heavy for him to carry the weight of the new world he lives in and it all burst out when his human friend died ( well he didn't die ) he just thought he did. I literally cried when i heard the scream it has the same emotional vibes as of The original singer TK plus the additional screams make it more emotional like "Tokyo ghoul" had a special part in her heart.
I know next to nothing about vocals and music analysis in general, but Ado is so good even a fool like me realizes she has an insane voice with an insane versatility. Good vid man, keep it up!

When it comes to the breathes she does, it feels as though it’s very purposeful. Like, she’s really going unhinged. The longer the song continues, the more unraveled her singing becomes, and the more erratic it gets. If I had to equate it to something, it’s like she’s the Heath Ledger of singing. She’s not just singing, she’s acting as well, and when you do both together, you feel like she’s completely one with the song. And you feel it in your bones.

I discovered Ado earlier this year, and while I liked her music, I never stopped to ponder just how amazing she is. Especially since seeing this live performance of unravel, I was like, holy cow, I don't even like screaming in music, but I can't deny that her range is just absolutely incredible. She has to be one of the best vocalists I've ever heard in my life. That live performance really lets all that raw emotion shine through in the way the studio version just doesn't. Like you said, live performances are done in one take. You have to go where you voice goes and where your feelings go during that performance, and it's very clear that Ado put absolutely everything into that and nailed it. She performed it the way the song lyrics are intended - as desperation, sadness, fear of losing oneself. The lyrics are actually meant as more of a message to the listener, to not forget them (the singer) as they lose themselves, since that's the theme of the anime this song was used as an opening for. Still haven't watched that anime but heard it's very good. I'm going to see her next March in London for her world tour!! I'm super excited to see her perform her songs live. If they're anything like this it's gonna be one hell of a show.

I think you have the best vocal analysis of Ado because you understand the intricacies of the harsh distorted vocals - that is, you're not locked in clean vocal pedagogy. She basically blows the performance/explanatory circuits of the usual vocal coaches, because they don't have the harsh vocal understanding. You have also practically explored the emotional and expressive aspects of different harsh vocal performances in your own voice.

There are also cool little moments like when she screams "unraveling the world." That's not just one vocal. It sounds to me like a bunch of layers. I can imagine that some production tricks were used like pitching her voice down an octave and layering it underneath. And then the whole thing is drenched in delay and/or reverb for that moment, which makes it sound massive.

I come back to this video sometimes, because ado is amazing. And I love seeing Liepe being so passionate during his analysis videos xD I'd like more Dimash analysis since I think he's one of the best examples of "Healthy Clean" Singing!

Brilliant analysis! Thank you for breaking down Ado's songs in so much detail! It makes me understand better the techniques she uses and the emotions she puts into it!

I'm also really impressed by the musicianship on her tracks. The bass playing in this song is particularly badass. And so was that guitar solo.

I really love her live version to this. The part where she is building up to the "unraveling the world" part, it never fails to make me cry. She puts so much emotion into it its incredible and mesmerizing.

She reminds me so much of Chester Bennington death screams, she still holds her voice even tho se is screaming her lungs out! It's such an amazing experience seeing you analize and break this down!

Watching this reaction made me realize that there's nothing like it. It's made me almost discount Western music entirely. JP idols like Ado are on a whole different level.

You shouldn't discount an entire hemisphere because you heard one good song.
