You saw Ado's debut song✨It's a song that complained about the manners of Japanese society. Other famous songs that became famous at the age of 17 are the song bocca della verità on the theme of jealousy and the song Loveka on the theme of blind love. When I hear it for the first time, the expression of negative emotions is amazing enough to make me feel scared. After that, the song called Giragira with the theme of overcoming from inferiority complexes, I think these three are worth seeing as the strongest.😂 You might enjoy it better if you watch it with subtitles lol😆

I love seeing you return to Ado! This song was really interesting because Ado expresses her frustration and criticism of the social mannerisms and the pressure to follow them in Japan, a sentiment that resonated with much of Japan's youth to the point that it has even been called 2021's youth anthem. However, some of the older folks were concerned by the vitriol in the delivery and found the message too crass. I remember hearing her voice for the first time and reading along with the lyrics, and it was so cathartic haha! I'm sure I mentioned it before, but you should take the time to see the music she did for the movie, One Piece: Red. She plays an international pop Idol character named Uta, who is introduced to the audience as a charismatic performer with a gorgeous, soaring, and uplifting vocal (New Genesis). As the movie continues and with each subsequent song, Uta sheds her pop idol persona into something more authentic and almost psychotic ('Backlight' and 'Fleeting Lullaby'), with the height of her dark rage culminating in the song 'Tot'. Ado is the perfect voice to represent Uta: her angelic high notes, textured screams, and heartfelt delivery perfectly encapsulates Uta's character as a desperate, terrified woman who wants to set the world on fire, but doesn't want to admit that she still wants to be saved.

I could be wrong, since I’m not a singer, but it seems to me that her secret (for all her natural abilities) is that her anonymity gives her a lot of time to study and train. And she is definitely learning, because in an interview she told how she learned to yodeling, and that she had to “turn her head over” to master it. By the way, she said that the "Show" was the most difficult song, and she had to practice a lot

I think that Gira Gira is a very nice song to check out as well. It's sung amazingly (like all her songs) but it gives you a small glance into what's (been) going on inside her. If i remember correctly, she said that the song is a love song she wrote for people like herself who are not meeting the beauty standards. It should also have english subtitles and it's just a great, sad, emotional song.

In Japanese, vowel pronunciation is important, and all letters end in one of the letters "a.i.u.e.o". Thanks to the characteristic of the Japanese language that you have to pronounce "aiueo" clearly, it sounds powerful and beautiful, and the listener can also feel good about it.

This wasn’t really the start of her career, this was when she debuted. Before ‘Usseewa’, she would make covers of countless other songs which can go all the way back to when she was 15-16. Most of the covers she made weren’t really recognized because most of them were sung with a high pitch and completely smooth voice, but she sung them in her own unique way with vocal distortions and a deep voice.

Chris, there's a growing rock band from Utah called Citizen Soldier. The singer, Jake Segura, attempted suicide in late 2015/early 2016 and is now a therapist who writes songs based on personal experiences, things said by fans and things said by some of his therapy clients. Not only are the songs awesome but his voice carries a huge amount of emotion in each song. I think that a great song to introduce his voice to you is Reason To Live since it's one of the most emotional ones and has a lot of different vocal qualities that he uses.

You gotta do Ado’s ”Tot Musica“! It's another mind blowing piece! I've been enjoying your analisys soooo much. your professional explanations are so interesting and I'm amazed at your technique to give out any kind of voice at once. Ado’s singing is not only playful but closely related to the lyrics and emotion lying there. She is a master of using her voice and also a master of dragging out the raw emotion and conveying it so straightforward to us no matter what it is. (Usssewa was an example of a rebelling song) She can easily make me cry solely with her voice. (like in “unravel“) So for me Its interesting and exciting when you refer to her different characters or her acting with the voice without understanding the lyrics. Her voice conveys so much. You'll find another completely different character, emotion and drama in Tot Musica. I believe the song itself is a difficult one that not every singer can express its world so well. It was sang in an anime film (she did the song parts). I haven't seen the film but understood what was going on from her song. Her voice conveys everything so dramatically. For me Tot musica is one of her master piece. Would love to see your analysis.

That growl she makes at about 4 minutes is actually a rather common sound japanese people make when they're sort of disgusted. not that it detracts from it, but just an fyi.

I remember this song got some criticism in Japan cuz politicians were claiming that it went against Japan's peaceful order and civil manners....

praying for Chris to react to Syudou someday, guy produced the music to Usseewa, he did a selfcover of it too. he's such an amazing singer, very unique i'd say, In The back Room gotta be my favourite, but Yatchatta wa, Tarine and Noroshi are great as well

Dude u need to listen to her cover of "Brain Revolution Girl" by ado From what i remember, she was still 15/16 that time and hasnt debuted yet Its so raw and strong Most of her older covers are mostly really strong songs which im confident you can enjoy breaking down

I think one thing that helps the growls a lot in this song is that japanese is a language primarily spoken in the back of one's mouth. it gives the vowels a lot of resonance and makes it more conducive to growling. of course she is mad talented regardless, I just think it's interesting how the language itself can affect the music in more subtle ways.

I'd love to see a tot musica (ado) analysis! Especially on the intro....it's so hard to sing xD. Also beneath the mask from persona 5 by the 8 bit band is sooo masterful in terms of vocals, I just love the song so much!

If I am well in touch with her songs, I would say Ado's had grasp of distortion at around 15-16 years old covering her first few songs on youtube, she's improved a TON since then and she's become even more amazing! 💚

It's funny you mention her producer because Ado records everything alone. For originals she is completely alone in the studio and for covers she is completely alone in her closet. I love the producers Ado works with but when it comes to her voice Ado is literally her own producer.

As someone who doesn't know anything about vocal techniques, I really like your analysis, especially of the Ado songs. Very informative and fun at the same time. To give you some context to the song (you should have a look at the lyrics, maybe it even adds to your thoughts about her technique(s)): It's basically a big "f*ck you" to societal conformity and Japanese standards. "Usseewa" (simplistically: shut the f up), the "haa?" (you have a problem?!/what do you want?!) before the choruses and a lot of other parts of the song are how a (female) "yankii", a youth delinquent, would speak. In contrast to that, she, probably sarcastically, emphasizes the "desu" at the end of the part before the chorus, which is a mannerism of polite speech (keigo). Which, in context with the lyrics, made this a very controversial song amongst the older generation and conservatives in Japan who went so far as try to ban it from radio stations and tv programs. It basically goes against everything these people are trying to protect. Her song "I'm a Controversy" is basically an answer to those people.
