I developed this type of vibrato years ago and can't unlearn it. If I'm not wrong it should be called a "laryngeal" vibrato. Which isn't natural and I don't know how to get that. When you pay attention to the big voices' throats (like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, etc.), they don't move their larynxes as we do. At this point, I'm somewhat convinced it's either you have it or you don't type of a phenomenon. There have been times I felt it happen naturally but it keeps reverting back to the artificial one. Sounds almost as good but it doesn't feel good to know that I could be better lol

Over time, I've watched a lot of different vocal lesson style youtube videos and usually leave feeling empty-handed. It's not like that at all with your videos, you're the only one I've seen that really gets it and I could tell almost immediately. I've learned so much already. Exceptional channel, please keep up the great work. Much love from Oklahoma

yesterday I accidently found my vibrato. I'm about to teach myself singing with grit and as I switched of my grit I ended up in my clean voice with a nice vibrato at the end. For me it's a sign that I'm on the right way developing my voice.

I have been singing for 40 years and coaching for 20. You cannot force from the throat and it's a natural outcome of good support...l agree with you on much of this. I find it to be THE hardest thing to teach. I was born with a natural vibrato, blessed l should say, so it's even harder for me to try to teach how. I am sending this to my students who are straight toning everything..

I have been studying singing for... 8 years? (Not really applied the whole time, mainly in the beggining) Using mainly youtube videos, and I can tell two things from your videos: - Many things I have learned from joining the knowledge from mutiple sources, are really well explained as a whole in your channel. - Since I realize that, I can also tell that the things I haven't learn are explained in a really complete way, that makes me without that NEED to seek many and many sources for each small thing. tldr; Great job!

my vibrato is inconsistent. sometimes it'll be too much and go sharp, other times it will be too weak. is that just a "i need to practice more and it will strengthen and even out over time" issue or a "i'm doing something wrong" issue?

Is this the kind of vibrato that is used by R&B singers when they do riffs and runs cos it sea like they just change their notes using their vibrato or it is more like their riffs and runs ride on their vibrato.

Hi Chris! I'm a little confused -- I usually hear people say that vibrato is a natural consequence of good technique, rather than something you have to learn how to do, and it sounds like you say something similar in the beginning of this video. But then what you describe in the rest of the video sounds like learning how to do it until it becomes second nature (e.g. learning how to embody the ghost until the ghost starts coming up for us to accept). Is the ghost exercise a way of getting in touch with what our voice wants to do naturally/with good technique?
