Thanks for the video Chris. Love seeing Oliver green working. Got an old hay wagon for getting it out of the guys way. Low and behold it has an Oliver running gear under it. Didn't even know Oliver sold wagon running gear
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Oliver running gears were first built by Peru Farm Truck, but that was back in the days of wood wheels and frames. Peru was bought out by Electric Wheel Company, and Oliver stayed with them for their running gears right up to the end of the Oliver name going on equipment.

Thank you, Chris for your valuable and informative videos. I grew up doing all manner of field work on an Oliver 1650 in the late 1960s & early 1970s and am looking to buy one. Could you advise how difficult it might be to upgrade a Hydra Power Drive tractor with an Over/Under unit? Aside from changing the linkage assembly does the 3 speed unit bolt in to the same space with no other changes?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 7 ай бұрын
The over/under will fit right in place of the hydra power. You can still use the same linkage through the lower part of the dash or swap out from a later tractor to move it up by the throttle. You'll have to get a cooler to mount in front of the radiator, and make sure the 3 speed is from a 1650 or 1655. They use a smaller input shaft than the bigger models. But if you round up all the parts, it's a drop in replacement.

Got some good news about my 1850. Had to move it out of the way so we decided to pull start it. Took a few attempts but it did start. For the last couple days we have been using it on a new holland grinder/mixer for high moisture corn until the corn dries down more where we will grind the corn into a harvester silo for cow feed. I still think the 1850 is a little damaged the blowby is a lot and every time it runs the grinder it leaves a couple drips of black goo out of the blown tube.

What needs to be adjusted if you have to hold your lever back to get the PTO to stop turning? There is a little drag , at idle with the PTO not engaged. If I pull back just a little the PTO stops. Thanks
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 2 жыл бұрын
Adjust the turnbuckle that goes between the lever and pto. Pretty sure you lengthen it, but adjust the length until it takes some pressure to get it to latch at the bottom of the pto lever

@@ThatOliverGuyChrisHi Chris! I have the same issue as Justin, however I've got the turnbuckle adjusted as far as it will go. When I have the brake locked on, the lever and turnbuckle rod are nearly horizontal and the PTO shaft still turns. It will only stop if I REALLY pull back on it, pull so hard that I feel like I'm going to bend the shifter. This is on a 1655. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge, it's a blessing for sure.

If the PTO clutch on Oliver 1650 is a "wet clutch"... what kind of oil should be put in that clutch housing, to keep it lubricated?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris Жыл бұрын
It is pressure lubricated with oil from the transmission and maintains its own level because of that. The transmission and final drives are all the same oil, so as long as it is yo to the level plug right behind the right axle, you're all set. Oliver recommended 80w-90 for that, the fill plug is just to the left of the gear shifter.

Oliver 1650, 1655, and White 2-70. This PTO unit was an option on the 1555, so you might need it there, although most of those had the dry PTO clutch.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris thanks. Pretty slick design. I'm using my "new" 105 on the bean auger and cannot shift the PTO into 1000. How big of a fix do you think it'll be?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 3 жыл бұрын
@@bendunkelman4853 Are you trying to do it with the 540 shaft in? That's normal. If you can't shift it with the 1,000 shaft in, then there's not much that can be done from the outside, the PTO unit would have to come out. It's the same PTO unit as the 1855 that I have a video on.
@bendunkelman4853
@bendunkelman4853 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThatOliverGuyChris yeah, I left the 540 shaft in. I'll look up your 1855 video. Thanks a lot! Parking brake doesn't hold on this tractor either.
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 3 жыл бұрын
@@bendunkelman4853 Yep, it's a safety feature to prevent over speed on 540 equipment. The PTO rebuild video from my 2050 might explain it better. I don't have a video on the parking brake, but that's fairly easy to explain. On each brake housing cover is a rounded cap like what might be on the outside end of an implement wheel hub. It's a friction fit dust cap that can be removed with a hammer and chisel. Under it is a set screw and jam nut. With the parking brake lever in the off position, (chock those wheels!) loosen the jam nut and run the screw in until it you can just feel it touch, back it off a half turn, set the jam nut, drive the cap back on and do the other side. If that doesn't help, your brake discs may be oily from a leak, which means more work.
