Love the video of that ol diesel comin back to life! I used to work as a diesel injection technician back in the late seventies and early eighties and was factory trained on all brands of pumps and injectors. Several of the factory reps told me that automatic transmission fluid was the best additive for keeping pumps and injectors clean. I owned a 92 GMC with a 6.2l diesel and added cheap ATF once a month to my fuel tank and put over 400 thousand miles on it without any fuel system issues! Just a little tip I though y’all might wanna try.
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
You're not the first to tell me that. A guy I know put some in every tank full on his duramax and never had to touch it in over 400,000 miles.

A couple more degrees wouldn't hurt and may clean up the smoke even more. I once worked on an 801 ford diesel that the timing Mark's were missing on the flywheel (I think it was Probably clocked wrong) pulled the valve cover , located tdc, lined up the pump marks started it and timed it buy smoke and ear. It started and ran great customer was happy. After that if I timed one buy the book and wasn't satisfied I wasn't afraid to tweak it till i was.

I did something similar on an Oliver 1850 diesel that had the perkins high end flutter. I got it running good on the high end, but then it started terrible. There's trade offs.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris How did you finaly get the high end fluttering out. My 1850 does that. Two different pumps same thing.

I had to replace the bronze gear under the injection pump, the bearing on that gear, and the bronze thrust washers on the front of the horizontal drive shaft. Each one had a little wear that was adding up to a lot of backlash. I think it was mostly the thrust washers, but didn't want to tear it apart twice, so I replaced all 3. Runs great now.

@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
I put a turbo on my cousins 2-85 and advanced the timing by a couple degrees because of it. I had to use math to figure out how far the flywheel would move at the pointer to figure out 2 degrees. It was terrible!

That Oliver Guy - Chris Losey That’s a very good point! A friend of mine has I believe a 1650 and he says it fires up and runs awesome for the first 20 seconds and then immediately starts skipping and missing very similar to the one in your video here. I had questioned the timing but then I ruled it out because it runs so good for the first few seconds but maybe I’m wrong

Our David Brown smokes more then what we remember, so it's getting injector service this winter. The loader sits low on that tractor, was that "the" Oliver loader for that 1650? The nice thing about the newer loaders, they are built to park, no forklift required😀. Unless you scew up of course(been there).

That loader was originally on their 77, but it could go on a 1650. It does sit low so the frame can go back and bolt on the bottom of the rear axles.

That front axle was an option for most of the 50 and 55 series Olivers. They called it the short wheelbase adjustable wide front. It didn't end up being a common option when it was all said and done.

Glad to see you working on a 1650 diesel. I just bought a 1650 diesel row crop with 46xx hours. it runs ok. I can not quite get the remote hydraulics to work like they should. Do they work as 1 valve for the top and the other on the bottom 2 plug ins? or is it 1 valve on each side?
